Top 7 Games Like Starfield

There are many space-faring games to pick from, but we have to also look at the way the game is played. We’re looking for adventure, roleplaying, choices, and an involved narrative. With all of that in mind, let’s see what are our top seven picks of games to play while waiting for Starfield.

7. EVE Online

On the surface, EVE Online is just a free space MMO that you heard some of your friends play. However, there is much more to it than that. It’s lauded as the true sandbox MMO space experience for a reason. You can be practically anything you want in EVE, with other players populating the galaxy shoulder to shoulder with you. It’s this total freedom that’s EVE’s greatest strength. Just be warned that the game’s also notorious for how much you can spend on it in the shop.

6. Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Did we cheat with this pick? Yes and no. Skyrim’s out on almost every platform and has been in the focus of roleplayers for over a decade. It picks up extra marks due to how much of an influence the development of Skyrim had on Starfield for Bethesda. When it was announced, fans called the game “Skyrim in space”, so there’s also that. While not space-bound, it will give you a general taste of what to expect from a Bethesda roleplaying adventure game.

5. Elite: Dangerous

In Elite: Dangerous, you pilot a space vessel to do various missions and tasks. Sounds familiar? This game will get you right into the proper groove to fly around the galaxy. It also has an MMO aspect, where you can duke it out with other players, hunt pirates, and more. Instead, you can also pilot a space hauler and play as a space trucker. Elite: Dangerous is a gem that packs a lot of content into a relatively humble frame.

4. Star Citizen

Star Citizen is probably the most infamous title on this list. And checking some of the other entries, that’s saying something. Famous for its crowdfunding campaign and lofty promises, this sandbox MMO set in a sci-fi future is a game that actually offers a lot to its players. Sure, it’s rough around the edges and so many of its promises were left unfulfilled, but the sheer scope and grandeur of this game warrants checking out.

3. The Outer Worlds

For a more light-hearted space adventure, The Outer Worlds offers a great time. Published by Obsidian Entertainment, you know that the game has a good pedigree. As expected from an Obsidian game, you have tons of freedom on how you customize, approach, and play The Outer Worlds. The game is set in a whimsical universe ruled by greedy corporations in which your character and their party fight to leave a mark. The plot of the story is engaging and will keep you guessing into the small hours of the night.

2. The Mass Effect Trilogy
