The Summer Event Is Already Getting Absolutely Slammed by Fortnite Fans

The Summer Escape event landed on Fortnite servers with new quests, challenges, and cosmetics. But according to the player community, there’s not much else to get excited about. Many players remember when in-game events represented more than just a laundry list of goodies. They were true events, something to rally around and celebrate. Did Epic drop the ball? A large portion of the community seems to think so.
Fortnite Community Disappointed With the Lackluster Summer Escape Event
To get the finger on the pulse of a community, you don’t have to go much further than Reddit. User It’sRyanDude5678 started a thread to vent about the uneventful event, and many other players joined in the discussion.
The crux of the issue doesn’t seem to be what was in the event, but what wasn’t. Most are of the impression that the whole deal is just an afterthought while Epic’s devs prepare for summer vacations. Leaving only a bare minimum of activities to tide players over during the summer months.
User 6lackFalcon suspects that it could be more sinister than that “The events are no longer made to increase player engagement. They know If you have FOMO you’ll still do the quests to get the items. They spend less time on events and are focusing more on developing a new chapter map as soon as possible, collab events and new game modes. […]” the Redditor explains in part of a longer comment.
Some commenters are plain apathetic towards the issue, citing “Whether you like it or not, the Summer Events are now here to effectively kill time while Epic’s employees go on their summer vacations. We get quests, rewards, and XP and to me that’s perfectly fine. Elaborate events like the one back in Chapter 1 simply aren’t going to happen anymore.” by user Effective-Interest28.
Others have joined the thread, saying that they could’ve at least brought back some LTMs or Unvaulted events. The main issue isn’t that there are rewards, but that there’s nothing else to do in a game that many consider stale, to begin with.
