Fortnite Reload to get a second rotating map, marking the first time players can still access old maps

Fortnite Reload was a breath of fresh air to the game, coming at a time when player morale was at a low point due to the negative reception to the vehicle-focused Chapter 5 Season 3. Instead of the traditional Battle Royale style of gameplay, Fortnite Reload is more action-focused and fast-paced, with players being able to respawn and drop back into the Chapter 1-inspired map that features iconic POIs such as Tilted Towers, Retail Row, and Pleasant Park.

Popular Fortnite leaker HYPEX took to X to reveal that Epic Games is working on a second map for its Fortnite Reload mode. However, unlike previous map changes with the core Battle Royale mode that sees the previous Chapter’s map become unplayable once the new Chater begins, the current Chapter 1-inspired map will remain playable, and instead, the two will rotate every 30 minutes.

This is an idea that I hoped to see with Fortnite OG. Many players would still enjoy jumping into the classic maps of Fortnite Chapters 1, 2, and perhaps even 3. Some other games such as Apex Legends rotate multiple maps that keep the game feeling fresh, and it would be great to see this implemented in Fortnite.

In the post, HYPEX revealed that “There will be 2 maps that rotate every 30 minutes. When queueing into Reload, it’ll show the current map. The second map is currently unknown”

There have been rumors that a Chapter 2-inspired map could be coming to Fortnite Reload in the future, but with the upcoming return to OG Fortnite focusing on Chapter 2 Seasons 1-3, it is unclear whether this is to be the case. As there is no release date for the map, it is possible that we could see Epic Games release it to extend the hype and excitement that the return to Chapter 2 will create.

Last year when Fortnite returned to Chapter 1, the game broke its concurrent player count record, with it peaking at over 11 million as players jumped onto the iconic island one final time before the game moved to Chapter 5. This time, the conclusion of Fortnite OG Chapter 2 will see the arrival of Chapter 6, indicating that Epic Games could be looking to release a new Chapter each year, with an OG season acting as the final season before heading to the new map.
