While there are a bunch of jobs players can unlock for their characters, the crafting jobs have always been a hit or miss with the fandom. On one hand, there are players that believe crafting jobs bring some real value to the table while, on the other hand, there are those who feel as though crafting is just not worth it.
We’ll be going through some of the advantages you can get by unlocking a crafting job so you could determine for yourself whether or not crafting is worth it in Final Fantasy XIV.

Is crafting worth the time in FFXIV?
Getting right into the meat and potatoes of the question, is crafting worth it? Yes, it is. Now, there are a bunch of reasons for this, but we’ll try our best to divide them properly instead of randomly dumping vital information.
Convenience
The first reason crafting in Final Fantasy XIV is worth it is because of how convenient it makes things. Instead of having to pay a fortune in Gils at the market board for something you want, you can simply craft it yourself. Granted, of course, you’re at the required level.
Additionally, crafting jobs also allow you to repair your own gear regardless of where you might be. No need to look for menders so they could repair your high-level gear for an insane amount of Gil. Not only does this save time but it also saves money.
Finally, you’ll also get the ability to craft raid food regardless of where you are. This has the potential to save you so much more time, even if you have a mount to make travel faster.
Gil Generator
The most common reason for players to take up crafting is that they’re able to make a bunch of Gil as long as they level their crafting skills up. How, you ask? Well, you know how the market board often has extremely inflated prices for certain pieces of gear but you end up buying them anyways because you can’t make them yourself?

Well, with crafting, you’ll be the one inflating the prices and getting the Gil. If you play your cards right, you can get away with a decent profit even when taking the material cost of crafting the gear into consideration.
This isn’t even mentioning the amount of Gil you’ll be saving for yourself by repairing your gear yourself. You know what they say, a Gil saved is a Gil earned.
Crafting Job Downside
With jobs as controversial as this, there are bound to be downsides. Perhaps the biggest one is the fact that crafting jobs are extremely time-consuming. Take repairing gear for example. If you want to repair a level 70 piece of gear, it will require a crafting level of 60 or higher, which is bound to take quite some time.
Additionally, although crafting your own gear instead of being at the mercy of the market board’s economy is lighter on your wallet, gathering all the required materials might become time-consuming as well.
