With so many classes being offered in FFXIV, it’s only natural that players would want to experiment instead of settling for one. However, constantly having to create a new character can get tedious. Fortunately, it’s possible to change your class instead.
We’ll be going through everything you need to know about changing your class (or job) in Final Fantasy XIV.
How To Change Classes in FFXIV
After unlocking a different class for your character in Final Fantasy 14, the rest is as easy as can be. All you have to do is equip the weapon of the new class. To be more specific, you have to change the main weapon to that of the class you want to equip.
So, let us say your character is currently in the Lancer job/class but you want to switch to the Gladiator class. All you have to do is change your main weapon to that of the Gladiator class and voila, your character will now be a Gladiator. The same applies to every other class. Yes, it’s just that straightforward.
Naturally, if you want to switch back to the previous job, then all you’ll have to do is equip a weapon of the class your character had before. Keep in mind that it’s important for you to have done the starting quest of a job before you can change to it.

How to Get a New Class in FFXIV
Before being able to change classes for your character, you first need to unlock these classes. This is only made possible when you reach level 10 in the job you picked for your character at the start as that will give you a job quest for that class. Unlocking that quest will unlock quests for different jobs you can complete at your leisure.
Let us say you picked Gladiator as your character’s starting class. When you complete the level 10 job quest for the Gladiator class, you’ll be able to see additional quests on the map. All these additional quests will relate to a class you don’t have.
The Lancer quest, for example, will be called So, you want to be a Lancer and will be located at the Gladiator guild. The same will apply to every other class.
Of course, we recommend you do some prior research on every starting class to ensure you don’t end up getting a class you don’t like. Finally, keep in mind that this is only how to get the starting classes. Classes like the dark knight are obtained elsewhere.
