This week has seen Counter-Strike 2 launch all over the world, supplanting CS:GO as Valve’s main team shooter game. The upgrade from the decade-old game to the next version has caused a surge in interest. With it, players flocked to try out CS2, causing the servers to crumble in some regions, which resulted in long queue times. While the game played swimmingly for many, certain regional servers buckled under the strain. As expected, players flocked to social media to voice their concerns and it didn’t take long for the CS2 dev team to respond.

Long Queue Times Plague Several CS2 Server Regions

The Counter-Strike player base was large to begin with, but the renewed interest in CS2 had brought many more players out of the woodwork. The influx of so many players caused long waiting times in matchmaking, with reports of even around 20 minutes in the queue.

Some of the affected regions include servers in the UK, Poland, and India, to name a few. Players on social platforms like Reddit and X have voiced their concerns. Fortunately for some, not all servers had this issue. But in the usual online discourse tradition, this caused a divide between those who can get into their games quickly and those who have to wait for a long time.

For instance, some long wait time estimates seem to be a bug, as one Redditor pointed out. But there’s no denying that the CS2 servers have simply been overloaded after launch. Yet there’s some good news coming from the Counter-Strike 2 team.

A Timely Response from Valve and the CS2 Team

It didn’t take long for Valve devs to step in and comment. In a recent tweet, they stated that they recognize that some of their servers are at capacity. Not only that, they are looking into expanding their server structure to accommodate the recent influx.

“Turns out a lot of you want to play Counter-Strike 2! If you’re having trouble finding a match it’s because we’ve hit server capacity in different regions. We’re adding more server capacity as fast as possible. Thanks for your patience while this is being addressed.”

Hopefully, it won’t take too long for this to happen and that many new players can find matches. It only speaks of CS2’s success upon launch, though now it’s up to Valve and their team to maintain the momentum. With rampant cheater problem with or without Prime Status, player retention should be their next main goal.
