The Nintendo Switch might have some action-packed and competitive games such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but the aim of Nintendo has always been to create a diverse experience for the entire family to enjoy. Because of this, you’ll find all types of games in the Nintendo Switch library. But what if you don’t want to be competitive and just want to enjoy a cozy game as you lay on your bed, completely snuggled up in your blanket? Well, the Switch has games that can scratch that specific itch for you as well. We’ll be going through seven of the best cozy games available on the Nintendo Switch for players who just want a good time.
7 – Spiritfarer
As the name of the game suggests, you take on the role of Stella, the person in charge of guiding spirits to the afterlife. What’s unique about this game is that it’s part resource management and part action adventure.
Although other games have had death in them before, few have tackled the concept with such raw emotions and intensity as Spiritfarer. Because of this, many have called it a cozy game about death. A bit of an oxymoron, we know.
What makes this game such a memorable one is the diverse cast of characters you come across as spirits. While you tend to their wants and needs, you eventually form bonds with some of them and come to know their stories.
Utilize the hugging mechanic of the game, and ensure you have a box or two of tissues nearby as you work toward helping spirits come to terms with their situations before you eventually have to send them off with a tearful goodbye. Stunning visuals, unforgettable characters, and charming gameplay. What more could anyone need?

6 – New Pokemon Snap
Who hasn’t heard of Pokemon at this point? After all, if you have a Nintendo console then chances are you’ve played at least one Pokemon game before. However, none of them are as unique and cozy as Pokemon Snap.
If you played the original game back in the Nintendo 64, then prepare for an incredible sense of nostalgia to hit you as soon as you boot up the game. If you haven’t played the game before, however, then worry not, as the game can be enjoyed regardless of whether you’ve experienced the original.
Look at the beautiful world of Pokemon like never before. Instead of having the majestic creatures fight each other, observe them in their natural habitats, and take a picture or two in the process.
5 – Gris
Gris and beautiful are two words that go together like peanut butter and grape jelly, and there’s no surprise as to why. It’s a visually beautiful game about a girl coming to terms with her painful past in a watercolor world.
There’s no fear of death or enemies you have to face. Instead, you just have to solve minor puzzles all the while getting lost in the stellar soundtrack present in the game. Manifest the painful memories and sorrow of your character in the form of dress powers that you unlock on your journey.
Go through a breathtaking experience you will never forget, as you learn the importance of opening up to others and the dangers of locking up your emotions behind closed doors.
4 – Disney Dreamlight Valley
If you’re a Disney fan, then Disney Dreamlight Valley is a must-try for you. Part life-sim and part action adventure, complete quests and explore the realms as you interact with various legendary Disney-related characters.
Free Dreamlight Valley from the Forgetting, dark thorns that sever memories related to your favorite Disney and Pixar characters, learn the stories related to all the residents in the valley and bring the magic back.
When you aren’t out questing, kick back and relax with your favorite characters. Go gardening with WALL-E, cook a delicious dinner with Remy, or maybe you would rather go fishing with our favorite dad, Goofy.
3 – Unpacking
A part puzzle game and part interior decorating, follow the main character as she moves in different houses and other spaces, bringing with her boxes upon boxes full of things for you to put up as you please.
As is to be expected, the gameplay is as simple as can be. Just pick the interior designing items you find in every box and place them around the houses and other spaces you come across. Unpacking is the name but fitting things in tight spaces is the game.
That isn’t all, however, as it’s up to you to unwrap the character’s story as she gives away bits and pieces of her life. Put on your detective hat and gather the required clues to make the most of this charming game.
2 – Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game that needs no introduction. After all, back when the lockdown was in full effect, this game singlehandedly got so many of us through the hard times, and there’s no surprise as to why.
Animal Crossing games have always been as cozy as can be. Go around collecting items, farming, fishing, and meeting neighbors, all to eventually make your island look better.
Perhaps the best and worst thing about this game is that it progresses in real-time. Although this adds an extra sense of realism and allows you to roleplay your character more, it also makes it so you might miss important events in the game because of even more important events in real life. Regardless, if cozy is what you’re looking for, then you can’t go wrong with Animal Crossing.
1 – Stardew Valley
If you’ve ever played Stardew Valley before, then chances are you already knew this was going to take the number one spot on this list, as you can’t possibly get cozier than Stardew Valley.
This farming simulator has it all. Crops for you to grow, neighbors for you to meet and bond with, fish for you to catch, mines for you to explore, and to top it all off, the option to play the game with a friend or loved one with the multiplayer feature.
Many in the past have said that Stardew Valley is Animal Crossing, just with the coziness ramped up to 100. With how much time we unknowingly end up passing every time we hop in, we can’t possibly disagree.
