Depending on your choices in Baldur’s Gate 3, you may have to save Gandrel. But is it worth saving the Gur hunter? Read on to find out.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you will encounter a wide variety of characters during the game. The choices you make will greatly shape your story as you move forward. One such minor character is Gandrel, a Gur monster hunter. He is on a mission to capture a certain Vampire Spawn. This could put you in a position to choose whether to kill or save him. Let’s explore the best course of action in this guide.
Should You Save Gandrel in Baldur’s Gate 3?
You shouldn’t save Gandrel in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you want to progress Astarion’s companion quest, which is easily one of the best arcs in the game. Plus, choosing any other option apart from killing Gandrel will either harm your storyline with Astarion or not progress it at all. The only other viable option is to deceive the hunter and throw him off Astarion’s trail.
What Do You Get By Killing Gandrel?
After killing Gandrel, you can loot his body and get your hands on some amazing stuff. This includes his Dagger, a Supply Pack, Leather Armor, an Arrow of Fire, an Arrow of Acid, and 2 Healing Potions. Best of all, you even get to keep Gandrel’s Aspiration, a heavy crossbow which grants an advantage over monstrosity-type enemies and ammunition that can turn undead.

All Baldur’s Gate 3 Gandrel Outcomes
Saving Gandrel doesn’t make much sense if the jig is up. However, if you still aim to save him, or if you throw him off his trail, you’ll later encounter him in the Gur camp area in Act 3. Speaking of which, you have other options during the dialogue as well. Here are all the other choices and outcomes you can make upon meeting Gandrel:
- Don’t Interrupt Astarion: If you choose this option, Astarion will end up killing Gandrel; however, you will not gain any favor from Astarion. That said, you will be able to loot Gandrel’s body.
- Interrupt Astarion: By interrupting Astarion and leaving, you will save both characters, but you will lose some favor with Astarion.
- Hand Over Astarion: If you know of Astarion’s secret and about Cazador Szarr, you will be able to hand over Astarion to Gandrel, and Astarion will be permanently removed from your party.
