Trying to figure out how to open the Green Hag’s door in Baldur’s Gate 3? You’re not alone. We’ll cover the steps you need to take to get through and complete the quest.
Auntie Ethel, otherwise known as the Green Hag, is one of the most memorable enemies you’ll face in Baldur’s Gate 3. Since the game’s release in August of last year, players have experienced a slew of difficulties navigating the powerful witch’s lair, which is full of tricks and illusions. Part of this involves getting past the Gnarled Door, which might as well be a brick wall if you fail the initial Arcana check while chatting. Fortunately, the task is much simpler than it seems at first glance. Here’s how to open the Hag’s door in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Open the Gnarled Door in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are actually a couple of ways you can open the Gnarled Door in Auntie Ethel’s lair in Baldur’s Gate 3. The easiest way, of course, is to pass the first Arcana check during your conversation with the door. It’s best to make sure you’ve saved your progress beforehand, as this will allow you to reset if you fail the saving throw. If you pass, however, you’ll see that the door was merely an illusion all along.
In the event that you fail the Arcana check and want to move forward, there’s still another way to open the door — and it’s really rather easy. After the throw, pick up the Whispering Mask on the table to the right of the door. Wearing this will allow you to walk on through as though the door was never there. Take it off once you’re in.
Should You Put On the Whispering Mask in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Many players are hesitant to don the Whispering Mask, as it’s made pretty clear that wearing it will force you to do Auntie Ethel’s bidding. To avoid this, just make sure you’re using a character with high Wisdom and simply take off the mask as soon as you get to the other side of the doorway. Otherwise, you’ll need to keep doing Wisdom rolls to fight off the effects of the spell.
