3 Things to Do Before Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Comes Out

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is almost here, and fans are chomping at the bit to get started. Breath of the Wild is the third best-selling Switch game to date, and the best-selling Legend of Zelda title of all time, meaning it’s no surprise that there’s as much hype for this sequel as there is.

Still, with less than a week left, players are trying to find ways to pass the time. However, there are ways for players to prepare themselves for the experience. We here at N4G have collected a few ways for players to get ready, so that, when the day comes, players can be more than prepared to jump back into the world of Hyrule.

Rewatch or Read the Story of the Breath of the Wild

The first thing anyone should do to get ready for TotK is either refresh their memory or learn about the story behind Breath of the Wild.

Tears of the Kingdom is a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, with the events of the first leading directly into the second. This is unusual for a Legend of Zelda game, as while a few of the games in the series are sequels to each other, they often take place across ages, or are presented in a way that makes following the timeline difficult. Tears of the Kingdom however takes places right where Breath of the Wild left off, meaning the narrative of the previous game will be incredibly important.

Pre-Download Tears of the Kingdom

This one may be a no-brainer for some players, but it bears repeating. To truly be prepared for the release, make sure to pre-download the game.

Tears of the Kingdom is available for predownload now, so there’s nothing stopping players from having it ready. If the game is pre-downloaded, players will be able to start playing immediately when the game unlocks at 12am EDT on May 12. There’s nothing to lose here, so players planning to download the game should do so sooner rather than later.

Brush Up On the New Mechanics

For those who want to go in completely blind, we get it. Players can feel free to skip this if they’re doing their best to go in unaware, but for the rest, it could be interesting to know what we’ll be getting into. Learning what the new mechanics are going to be will get any player hyped for the release.

Players should go ahead and watch the new mechanic trailer so that they can understand what will be so different this time around. Fusing will be the name of the game, slapping rocks and stick together to make new weapons, combining forgotten relics to make gliders and jets, or making your own mechs from backyard scraps.

Breath of the Wild was so popular in part because of the freedom with which players could approach the game. With this new mechanic, Nintendo is looking to take that freedom to the next level.

Will these three tasks behind them, players should be ready to play Tears of the Kingdom in the first minute, excited for the journey ahead and aware of what they might be facing. The release is only a few days away, so players can rest assured knowing that their long wait is almost over.
