If anything, Microsoft provoked Sony into doing something like this. They have done this several times with the Xbox One in it's first year alone, it was a matter of time before Sony responded with a similar move.

Gazondaily3430d ago

Two wrongs make a right do they?

Like the article says, money-hatting is okay if Sony does it.

Xsilver3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

At the end of the Day Sony Fans Don't get to Play Tomb Raider for God Knows How long So don't give me that two wrongs don't make a Right BS when One Wrong was Never made Right So GTFO.
@septic
"MS fans don't get to play SF5 for "God knows how long"."
and whose fault is that........... exactly.

Abash3430d ago

How is it wrong for Sony when their competitor (Microsoft) has done this repeatedly to them? It's simply them striking back, remember this is the business world

Ezz20133430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

it's not right of course
i hate buying 3rd party exclusives
timed or not

but the problem here
Microsoft started this with TR being timed exclusive
so Sony can't just sit there and let them do this
they had to counter them

again i'm not saying this is right ..it's wrong
but if you are Sony ...what would you do if your rival did this ?!
this is business after all

also we don't know if this rumor true or not

Gazondaily3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

"It's simply them striking back, remember this is the business world"

Unbelievable spin.

Answer me this. Was MS wrong is doing it before? Was it not business back then?

@Xsilver

"At the end of the Day Sony Fans Don't get to Play Tomb Raider for God Knows How long"

Er its one year exclusive. That's how long. We don't know if this is a lifetime exclusive. MS fans don't get to play SF5 for "God knows how long".

Abash3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@Septic

If you want to be mad at anyone, blame Microsoft for starting this. I was only pissed at Microsoft resorting to buying third party exclusives rather than investing that money and time into creating new Xbox exclusives and resurrecting more of their IPs

Sony has done a fantastic job of that through and through, we can't say that PlayStation should invest this money into more PlayStation series and studios when they already have more than enough of them.

There is the difference, Sony is just using a tactic that their competitor used on them to strike back

PoSTedUP3430d ago

MS has KI exclusive, Sony wants their exclusive fighter.

im going to skip the politics here and say: pay back's a *****, PS4 ftw.

ger23963430d ago

But it's technically not an exclusive. It's coming out on pc as well.

xbox one got dead rising 3, now it's PS4 turns to get an exclusive.

Findingcrybabies3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

its not "right" to do, but If MS refuses to stop their BS then SONY NEEDS to step up, and they have. Good for SONY. It sucks for gamers as a whole, but its better for SONY to do it ALSO as opposed to let MS just run free range and do as they please. Come on now. Be real.

Its a thing MS has been doing it since 360 and they weren't going to stop. Sony let it slide all last gen.

mydyingparadiselost3430d ago

Imagine the ridiculous fury that would be brought about if Nintendo did this... *insert Bayo 2 rage comments here*

Death3430d ago

Both companies have been securing timed exclusives for a very long time. This is not a response to Microsoft, it's a business tactic Sony has been doing since the original Playstation debuted in the 90's. It's also a very good sign for Sony since this means they are starting to move forward again. They have not been able to secure content like this for quite some time due to their financial problems.

This is more like a Titanfall/Bayonetta 2 situation. The game likely was never going to be made without Sony's help due to low sales for fighters and the cost of development for a new SF game on more powerful hardware. When people found out that Titanfall needed MS's help, it was no longer a big deal that it's a 3rd party exclusive. When people were told that Bayonetta 2 needed Nintendo, nobody made a big deal of it either.

The problem with Tomb Raider is that the previous game sold very well and the new one was already being developed for the PS4, you could even pre-order it for the system, but MS paid for timed exclusivity. I'd hardly consider the two anything similar and this is actually to people's benefits if true, since we could either not have the game or we can have the game. Tomb Raider was going to be made regardless of MS's involvement.

@Death:

They never had to pay for games to not be made for other systems, it was normally because of Nintendo's uncaring attitude towards 3rd parties and because of the huge installbases that PS consoles tend to have that gets it a bunch of 3rd party exclusives. Devs were guaranteed a huge audience with early PS consoles. Also, the PS1 was extremely easy to program for and games were printed on discs, much cheaper than cartridges meaning much less overhead costs.

The PS2 coming out before the other consoles and also being the fastest selling console of all time for its time (and most sold of all time) was obviously going to get a ton of games before the other consoles came out. And a ton of devs didn't see the point in releasing games for the other consoles because of the small install bases. The Xbox was also not big in Japan like the PS2 was meaning making Japanese centric games for the Xbox was not a good idea. This could be another reason why this is being made for the PS4 and no the Xbox One, Japan loves its fighters and the Xbox One is doing worse than any other Xbox console has ever done in the territory.

pompombrum3430d ago

Microsoft dug this grave with kinect, now it's time they lay in it. Ever since the Kinect unveiling, Microsoft have been far more concerned at bringing in the ever elusive casual/family market at the expense of core gamers. Meanwhile, Sony continued delivering the experiences for core gamers, there is an image somwhere on the web showing all the exclusives released in the last 3-4 years on Xbox 360 and PS3, it pretty much paints a pretty accurate picture imho.

You then have the Xbox One and PS4 reveals. Sony went in loud and proud to be a gaming console, Microsoft went in with a glorified TV accessory that also plays games approach. It really shouldn't come as a surprise that the more dedicated (and vocal) gamers would be flocking to the PS.

I do agree that the hypocrisy is funny/sad but Microsoft only have themselves to blame, give the gamers the middle finger, well they'll give you the middle finger back.

breakpad3430d ago

IMO third party exclusivity is good ..it was,is and will always be here, it is a free market and there is competition so get on with it ...

xHeavYx3430d ago

MS does it and PS fans talk about how unfair it is, MS fans tell PS fans to deal with it.
Sony does it and MS fans talk about how unfair it is, PS fans tell MS fans to deal with it.
Let's not pretend that the hypocrisy is exclusive.

marlinfan103430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Before we heard "sony would never sink so low as to secure well known franchises and take them out of gamers hands" now this gets announced and we here "YEAH SONY!!! THATS PAYBACK MS!!" Lol what a joke

Edit- dont forget the whole "ms is ruining gaming by doing these exclusive deals, they could care less about gamers". Its weird, im not seeing these same comments about sony when theyve taken it up a notch and secured full console exclusivity rights

yewles13430d ago

"MS fans don't get to play SF5 for "God knows how long"."

I'm certainly enjoying that Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall on PS4 at the momen--oh...

Death3430d ago

@Zeu,

According to Phil Spencer, Microsoft made a financial investment in the new Tomb Raider which is why the game has an exclusive agreement at launch. How is Microsoft investing in a games development different from one title to the next? http://venturebeat.com/2014...

If you want to over analyze this, which game do you think will have a bigger budget, Rise of the Tomb Raider or Street Fighter?

zeuanimals3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

I can't edit this into my comment so I'll just comment again:

Remember folks, Street Fighter games have about 5 Ultra Super Deluxe versions per numbered entry. This doesn't rule out a Super Street Fighter V being on the XBO. Capcom's not doing so well, if they make their money back on this they'll be able to fund that new one for both consoles next time.

Right now, it's a smart idea to target the console with the bigger installbase, and it's also the one with the bigger installbase in the country it'll likely sell very well in (Japan).

@Death:

I haven't seen that. They should've come out with that earlier instead of being sneaky about it, but good on them for that but it is their fault for not communicating it well since after all of this time, this is still news to me. Thanks for showing me though, puts the Xbox division in a better light.

Of course, the same can be said of Sony not communicating this very well, but we have to wait for the official announcement since this was an "accidental" leak. If they're not helping out with development or anything, then that's a problem, but I'm pretty sure they are since this game was likely never going to be made without some help.

Ezz20133430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@Death

But What will sell more ?!
Tomb Raider or Street Fighter ?!

styferion3430d ago

what are you expecting on the internet anyway?
fanboys will be fanboys, both sides are hypocrites, the situation will be exactly the same if they switch sides.
It sounded one-sided hypocrisy to you because currently PS4 is dominating, thus you see the majority are okay with it, try early last gen where Sony and MS position is switched.

Volkama3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

There is a very fine line between "funding the development of a game" and "being a moneyhatting ass-company". But you can at least argue that there may be some beneficial side to exclusive game deals, which is never the case with COD/Destiny style timed content deals.

But in terms of "who started it"? Sony. Never saw Sega or Nintendo buying up hot properties. Sony marched onto the scene buying up whole studios to lock down an exclusive catalogue. Those prized first parties that people covet weren't cultivated from some Sony youth academy... they were established 3rd party developers making great games for other platforms.

So yes, there is always a lot of hypocracy when people accuse one platform holder of being worse than the other. Sony and Microsoft are playing the same game by the same rules, with only minor differences in their approaches, but it's very much cutt-throat all round.

The real w****** are the likes of Activision. Can't find any justification for their arms dealing being money money money.

Gazondaily3430d ago

Truly mind boggling- even I did not anticipate THIS level of hypocrisy.

"There is the difference, Sony is just using a tactic that their competitor used on them to strike back"

SMH. REALLY?? This is ridiculous. How on earth is this justified? Sony is using this to strike back? So two wrongs DO make a right??

"im going to skip the politics here and say: pay back's a *****, PS4 ftw."

Says it all really.

@Ezzo

"again i'm not saying this is right ..it's wrong
but if you are Sony ...what would you do if your rival did this ?!
this is business after all again i'm not saying this is right ..it's wrong
but if you are Sony ...what would you do if your rival did this ?! "

I agree with you wholeheartedly. You're right. Sony can't sit back on their laurels but it doesn't make it right. At least you get it. The others on here blindly defending this as if this is some sort of equitable justice is crazy!

@Bluff

"Must be itching to get dem clicks eh septic, aka MS c**ksucker?"

Yeah because those clicks make sooo much money lol. Don't mistake me for other hit-hungry people on here. If I wanted to, I could be the top contributor all day with flamebait titles. I just say it how it is.

@Death

"Both companies have been securing timed exclusives for a very long time."

Agreed and whilst MS popularised the trend, people will bury their heads in the sand regarding your comment.

"But it's technically not an exclusive. It's coming out on pc as well."

Wow. So this sentiment used to downplay the Titanfall exclusivity works both ways.

@zeuanimals

"The game likely was never going to be made without Sony's help due to low sales for fighters and the cost of development for a new SF game on more powerful hardware."

If anyone actually believes this nonsense, then they need to get their heads checked. Street Fighter would never have been made without Sony's help??! You've got to be joking!

@xHeavy

"Let's not pretend that the hypocrisy is exclusive.

You're right. Its not. But one side made A LOT more noise than the other.

Crystallis3430d ago

Two wrongs don't make it right?. Get out of here with that Septic. So Sony is just going to sit back and let MS Moneyhat the big third party exclusives?

The shoes on the other foot now and its "two wrongs don't make it right". Remember MS started this garbage and like I said in the beginning of last gen, these kind of deals will not sit well with gamers in the future and it turns out I was right.

miyamoto3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

My goodness gracious!

Weren't you people saying Sony is so piss poor its going bankrupt and all yet you say Sony has the capability to money hat like Microsoft or Nintendo????

What hypocrisy!

The writing is on the wall, Septic.
3rd Party instinctively and financially will make games on the more popular platform.

Do you know what you are babbling about?
Were you born yesterday?

The future has been decided already for this generation.

Sony does not gives a rat's ass about any of its past successes as its a company that moves forward very fast

but do you know how many times PlayStation's competitors Nintendo and Microsoft has money hatted numerous third party like Capcom to buy exclusivity over game titles and franchises that were made popular first on PlayStation platforms?

Remember Capcom 5 controversy on Gamecube where Capcom and Nintendo joined forces to bring PlayStation's down to the ground?
Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, PN 03, Dead Phoenix and Killer 7

How about Monster Hunter's multi million selling run on PSP where did it go?
How about Devil May Cry?

Remember Final Fantasy XIII a supposed to be PS3 exclusive that Microsoft paid $100 million to get it to Xbox 360?
GTA IV? Dino Crisis?

....and many more cases like this!!!! Damn It!

But did we hear any complaint from Sony?

PlayStation has been a badly beaten victim of this money hatting and swiping for many years.

Maybe....
Is SF5 console exclusivity Capcom's way of apologizing to Sony?

Or is it the PS4's massive lead that prompted them to save on development money?

@septic
Dude, Titanfall Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.... go figure? Don't play ignorant.

And when did Sony had the millions to money hat 3rd party

yewles13430d ago

"Never saw Sega or 'Nintendo' buying up hot properties."

ROFLMFAO!!!! XD XD XD

Oh that's too funny... Nintendo did worse.

http://geekcomix.com/vgh/fo...

Volkama3430d ago

@Yewles OK good shout, Nintendo started it. I didn't know half of the detail from your link. I just played Sonic/Street Fighter 2/Mario Kart/Super Smash TV, without a care for how they came to be.

But the rest of my post was more important than a "who started it". What I was trying to convey was that they all do it, and pointing accusing fingers at one or the other is silly.

nX3430d ago

Septic in full damage control these days ;D
Aside from the fact that Microsoft started it, we don't even know whether this is an exclusive deal or just Capcoms decision to save development costs. All we know is that timed exclusivity is hurting this industry in any case, no matter who's doing it... but I'm pretty sure that Microsoft can't win this war with money alone, it seems like there's quite a few developers making PS4 exclusives out of their own will.

Ron_Danger3430d ago

I can't wait till this author writes an article about the hypocrisy of MS fanboys praising indies on XBox 360 and then bashing them on PS4...

Oh wait... That article will never be written...

yewles13430d ago

"But the rest of my post was more important than a "who started it". What I was trying to convey was that they all do it, and pointing accusing fingers at one or the other is silly."

Fair enough, but take it from me, bro: gaming history is SORDID in controversy, just like EVER OTHER INDUSTRY, few of us know this from first-hand experience.

PoSTedUP3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@Septic- MS throws their money around. me: they have little first party, they have to/ theyre desperate. is what i say. its cool if what i said supports your argument, but dont get me confused with everyone else and what they say. i dont think MS buying third party exclusives is wrong at all. its all fair in love and war. its a counter strike (if even that) if anything by this deal (if any). not all sony fans share the same exact opinion, so of course its gonna look hypocritical when youre comparing different opinions of the same party. maybe ive been gone for a little too long but i guess i just dont remember sony fans claiming this is wrong; OR you are indeed taking the opinion of some, and then the response to this exclusive deal from other sony fans with a different outlook, and making/thinking it looks hypocritical in your own mind by not understanding that not every sony fan shares the same opinion of MS (besides hating them). some could be here right now looking like a hypocrite, idk, do you? i jus wouldnt generalize different opinions just to support your argument of hypocrisy because it can be easily done by what i said above, and that may be just the case here.

edit: my comment is for you too Marlinfan.

DragonKnight3430d ago

Look, people trying to justify this as "Sony is striking back", you're wrong. This tactic, no matter who does it, is wrong. 3rd party titles have literally no reason to be exclusive to any console. They may end up being exclusive because the studio can't make it otherwise and then that's just a protected investment on the first party's part, but it's a B.S. move to keep games away from gamers.

So no, it's not ok that Sony has done this for so many reasons, not the least of which are instances in which people endlessly b**** that it's ok for one side to money hat but not the other.

dredgewalker3430d ago

All I can say is all is fair in love and the console war...if this is true I am very surprised by this kind of move by Sony. I may not be complaining since we have a ps4 but if I had an Xbox One I'd be really pissed since both ps and xbox owners all love Street Fighter. It's still a huge franchise and having exclusivity to this game will definitely help sell more PS4's.

NatureOfLogic_3430d ago

Two different situations imo. TR exclusively on Xbox didn't make sense to me because both of the previously released TR's sold less on Xbox consoles. That's not the case with SF. It actually sold more on PS consoles so it makes a little more sense than MS TR moneyhat that just shutout majority of the fanbase.

PoSTedUP3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@ dragonknight: ever heard of an incentive? third parties and companys do whats best to benfit themselves, they both are obviously ok with this and have done it for a reason: the more they benifit the more they stay afloat. its business. also crapcom isnt doing too well, but would hate to see them or any company disappear completely and if this is what they feel is best to stay in the game: its completely Right. gamers have full access to every game on every console. and if you have to buy a second console to play certain games, hey, youve just unlocked a whole other world of possibilitys, congrats :). if you choose not to buy a console for a certain game that you want, your loss, you then do not get to play it. companys create the perfect recipe for us to buy their console, a third party exclusive is just a secret ingredient ;)
anyone of these third party devs can become first party in a heart beat, and then what? a company just took a whole slew of games an made them exclusive. thats ok though? first party is justa word, yet the same concept as buying just one game from a third party that they rightfully paid for, on a smaller scale. its business and a means of survival. and if a company dishes out millions of dollars for it, they deserve it, andyour 400 bucks.

LeCreuset3430d ago

@Septic

No, it's not right. I'd rather see the money spent elsewhere.

Still, it takes me out how some of you jump at any chance to hurl false charges of hypocrisy. If you're playing a game of street hoops and you keep fouling the other team when they go for a basket, and your response when called out on it is "That's the game. Just play," don't be surprised when the other team plays and fouls you on your way to the basket.

Did you really just think Sony was going to allow MS to use a tactic against them without evening the playing field? Get real. If anything, there should be an article on why competition isn't automatically a good thing. Here's exhibit A. I don't like it, but I'm not about to shed a tear for MS or any of the fans whose response to outrage at the TR deal was along the lines of "Ha, ha. Xbox FTW. U fanboys just butthurt." So please spare us from another demonstration of the overuse and misapplication of "hypocrisy."

Godmars2903430d ago

Of course its not alright if Sony does it. Especially when its a title that's just not going to be on the XB1 when that title has been nothing but multiplatform from the beginning of time.

darthv723430d ago

people going crazy over this need to think about 2 things. 1st its Capcom. 2nd its street fighter.

If it isnt clear yet then let me give you a hint... "Super"

It seems there is a good chance that the xb1 will get a "Super" edition while the PS4/PC has the regular edition.

It isnt like Capcom and MS are on bad terms and Sony is already getting an exclusive in the game Deep Down.

4Sh0w3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Wow the hypocrisy is astounding on n4g, a bunch of agrees for ridiculous comments, lol...in fact the only way a xbox fan could be a hypocrite in this case is if they supported micros 3rd party deals like Tomb Raider and NOW say sony should NOT have done this deal...simply pointing out that ps fans bashed micro and said it was bad for the industry so now just stating that ps fans are saying this is "pay back" is not hypocrisy its only reminding them of their previous position, what is hypocrisy is damming micro for it and now cheerleading sony for it, lol dome of you have no shame its actually textbook hypocrisy. Again which is why I personally don't choose to hate on either companies business moves unless it's something highly unusual= I don't like having to contradict myself when the console I prefer does it...it's the internet but I still like to mean what I type.

"Microsoft started it"...lol, the internet is funny when folks who should know the most about gaming history know so little. Sony was buying exclusives from sega before xbox ever existed. I suppose nintendo has done the same. As a X1 only owner Im not complaining. IT'S BUSINESS and this news and the large amount of ps fans reactions just confirms what everybody always knew which was that the soap box rants from ps fans about Tomb Raider and other 3rd party exclusives was NOT about "all gamers being able to play a established franchise but really just transparent hatred because microsoft has the deep pockets to do it.

Lol, now disagree if sony had the same 3rd party exclusive deals to start this gen instead of micro would any of the same folks bashing micro for it have said anything besides "thanks sony"???

That said good for sony, I like the competition, the more these two consoles library varies the more incentive for consumers to make a hard choice OR buy both.

Kryptix3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@SEPTIC

Here's some truth...

I understand what you're trying to point at, Septic. About the Tomb Raider timed exclusivity and all the people going against it. Here's the thing though, we have no knowledge if Sony funded the project at this point or if Capcom are only able to release this game on one console because if I remember correctly, Capcom aren't financially stable due to their mistakes last gen.

Here's a real shocker though...YOU sir, are a hypocrite yourself.

"Well if its timed then it'll be a quick cash injection that will benefit them the following year. I would have made that deal if I were struggling financially." -This is you trying to cover for Microsoft and their Tomb Raider deal

http://n4g.com/news/1565724...

So by your own words, you should be ok with this because if you paid attention to Capcom, they aren't in good standing with finance.

Look, this is from 2013:

http://gaminrealm.com/2013/...

Title is, "Capcom Doesn’t Have Enough Resources For A Next-Gen Fighter"

I just gave you the evidence, are you going to deal with it or are you going to be around N4G spreading the same bs...

Edit: Corrected the second link

URNightmare3430d ago

So what's Sony supposed to do, just sit there while Microsoft keeps doing this every time? This is the kind of crap Microsoft has brought to the industry. Microsoft will always ruin something wherever they put their hands into.

LeCreuset3430d ago

Let me say this too, for the "hypocrisy" trolls that insist on viewing things in a vacuum. Did it ever occur to you that Microsoft's eagerness to snatch up 3rd party titles played a hand in this? If Sony says "no" to Capcom, do they have to worry that MS will say "yes?"

There have been a few titles now where the defense of MS has been that some developer/publisher came to Sony with the deal, but Sony didn't play ball. So, IF it's a matter of losing a title to MS or playing their game, I'd rather Sony play their game, though I'd rather the game had never been started.

Kayant3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

First of all no one knows how this deal came to be. It can be that it's a case like TF/DR3 where extra funding was needed for the game to come out. There is also the thing were this could be a timed exclusive. There is no details to go on with!!!

TF was clearly brought.

1. When the game was announced no platforms were mentioned.
2. On MS's website it was referred to a third party title.
3. Pre-orders were being taken by multiple retailers for 5 versions(PC/XB1/PS4/PS3/X360)
4. Even when it was confirmed as a timed exclusivity it took several days before Phil Spencer was like we are helping "development" - Translation we are helping out the Xbox versions of the games like we always do when there is a need.

If this game was not going to exist without Sony's cash then it's a better situation still shitty because of platforms affected but at the very least it was not taken from said platforms even though the game would have existed on them like in the TR situation.

At least wait until we get a clearer picture before crying about "Hypocrisy" when there is no clear reason as why the exclusivity exists.

@Kryptix

@Septic: The problem is that the horse is already been let out of the barn. Microsoft wrote out big fat checks for Titanfall, the Gears of War franchise, and now Rise of the Tomb Raider. Multiple instances that were defended by Xbox Fans and decried by Sony fans.

Now if Sony follows suit, if there is no internet outrage that somehow makes people hypocrites? The precedent has been set, and many people have taken the stance of "business is business". Either they're both acceptable or both unacceptable.

Gazondaily3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@Kryptix

"Here's a real shocker though...YOU sir, are a hypocrite yourself. "

AND then you quote me here:

"Well if its timed then it'll be a quick cash injection that will benefit them the following year. I would have made that deal if I were struggling financially."

Sorry, where is your reading comprehension? And where is my hypocrisy? Do you even get what the article is about? I said that if I were struggling financially I would have made that deal. THIS is an article about the HYPOCRISY of fanboys deriding the deal made.

Don't you get it? You're proving the hypocrisy of the Sony contingent for me.

However, why didn't you link this comment of mine?

http://n4g.com/news/1566487...

"Its business. Pure and simple. I'm NOT saying its a GOOD PRACTICE but some people need to wake up."

"I just gave you the evidence, are you going to deal with it or are you going to be around N4G spreading the same bs... "

You gave me evidence of the fact that you actually don't understand what you are talking about or what this article is about. Try harder next time.

I'm not spreading B.S. This is about a bad practice (that I have stated was a BAD PRACTICE when the TR deal was made) and IN THE ARTICLE itself but I'm alluding to the HYPOCRISY in the reaction of the fanboys to this.

So are the same people boycotting Tomb Raider going to boycott this?

@Lord Maim

"The precedent has been set, and many people have taken the stance of "business is business"."

Ah so its business when Sony now do it. Right. They're justfied because they made this deal to react to MS. Right. How convenient. So it basically boils down to 'Money-hatting is okay is Sony do it'.

Seriously, the people boycotting TR, if you have any backbone, you'll be doing the same here. I won't obviously...I'll be buying this, if its good, just like I will Tomb Raider.

Keep digging though. I'm genuinely in awe at the hypocrisy and absolute blind loyalty/justifications given here. It really is something.

Big_Game_Hunters3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Lol i saved a bunch of pictures of N4G comments attacking microsoft over the Tomb raider exclusivety, now i see the same names on this comment section with the opposite. Giving me really good laughs.

As for me.. i don't care, business is business, when MS did it i didn't care, Sony is doing it now, i still don't care. But the people here Seemed to think it was so bad when MS did it,but now its okay because........? because it's business?!? lol hypocrites.

Christopher3430d ago

@Septic

***You're right. Its not. But one side made A LOT more noise than the other.***

As someone who moderates a lot of comments, I disagree with that sentiment. On a general basis, there are more Sony fans than Xbox fans. But, on major topics like this, they come out of the woodworks and are pretty even on comments.

Gamer19823430d ago

MS has done them to themselves really by showing Sony how far they are willing to go. It was bad last gen with games like Star Ocean but this gen they took Tomb Raider and I reckon that stung a little and now with Sony saying they are finally putting there time and resources into the gaming division instead of mobile and TV which is losing them money it was only a matter of time before they took all MS's own money making ideas and did it for themselves. The main difference here is compared to last gen is the scope of the games.

Saying that lately it just seems Capcom is whoring its games out to the highest bidder with DR3 going to MS and SFV to Sony. We all knew they would be getting a premium game from Capcom when MS got DR3 we didn't know it would be this.. Makes me wonder whos gonna get Resident Evil.. I wouldn't put money on it being Nintendo.

solid_snake36563430d ago

MS has done this repeatedly with bioshock mass effect tomb raider and with dlc's. You can't expect Sony to sit their and let MS do this to them.

4Sh0w3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Kayant none of that really matters. Fact is even before or after micro is known to be helping with the development of the game a large majority of ps fans bash them for any kind of 3rd party deal. The main point here about the "hypocrisy" label is that going back to even last gen it's a consistent pattern that the ONLY reason 3rd party deals are frowned upon is when the shoe is on microsofts foot for the simple and most obvious reason= its not on ps console whether that's timed or permanent given the complete reversal we see in this comment section that's the truth. I haven't played a Street Fighter game in ages but I'm sure this one will be great, I don’t really care how micro or sony secure these deals the end result is the same and THATS BUSINESS, its both of their jobs to make their platform more desirable than the competition and just because a deal pisses off a bunch of entitled fanboys of the competitions fanbase should NOT be a reason for hesitating to make such deals, as a X1 owner sony owes me nothing and micro damm sure better offer X1 owners plenty of their own deals. I like both being aggressive....can you imagine 2 consoles with a even more varied lineup of 1st and 3rd party exclusives.

Death3430d ago

To those that seem to think Sony never paid for third party exclusives, care to explain how Metal Gear on the PS3 became exclusive? The game had a digital footprint of 9 gigs, so it has nothing to do with Blu-ray. The Metal Gear PS3 bundle was part of the agreement Konami had with Sony. Metal Gear was a paid exclusive. This isn't a new practice and it's not always unethical. Take a look at Tomb Raider for example. It's closest competition is Uncharted which is a Sony first party exclusive. If both release late next year they are in direct competition with each other. In this case Sony is competition to them. Microsoft has no first party offering like it and isn't a threat to sales. It makes perfect sense to launch first on the Xbox since they can fill a void on the platform. If they launch on PS4 6-12 months later Uncharted will have less of an impact on sales. The money Microsoft is investing should cover losses for the quarter from the absence of sales on PS4.

DragonKnight3430d ago

@PoSTedUP: There is no incentive in this that isn't eclipsed by multiplatform sales. Unless this situation is like Bloodborne (where the dev partnered with Sony for the sake of FUTURE multiplatform games), or Bayonetta 2 (where the game would not exist without a first party studio stepping in to fund production), there's no reason for any 3rd party company to make any game exclusive to a platform, especially an old series like Street Fighter. Exclusives are best used to showcase the potential of a console, and 3rd party games NEVER do that because they don't have the intimate knowledge of the console necessary to do it.

As for what my opinion is, since you seem to be confused as to why I made the statement I did, Sony fan or not this is wrong. It was wrong for MS to take TR away from what could pretty much be considered it's founding fanbase, and it's wrong for Sony to take a fighting game away from more competitive players. Buying a PS4 for Street Fighter V would be a stupid thing to do and shows complete lack of respect for the value of a dollar. Especially when considering that the "whole other world of possibilities" you're talking about has at least a 50% chance of not existing at all after you've spent your $400.

The tactic is wrong. It benefits fewer people than it would if the game were multiplatform, and Capcom needs all the money they can get. For a console agnostic franchise like Street Fighter, being exclusive means making less money. So really, the only "winners" here are Sony because PS4 gamers would get the game anyway if it were multiplatform, they don't get rewarded for it being exclusive, Capcom makes less money, and Sony gets all the reward from it.

Chevalier3430d ago

Start of this gen. Dead Rising 3 and Tomb Raider.

Last Gen Dead Rising, Bioshock, Ninja Gaiden,Mass Effect, Tales of Vesparia, Star Ocean, Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto, Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Skyrim 1st to Xbox DLC etc.

Clearly Sony started the trend?! MS started the whole thing and where were you guys then?! Those same smug people were oh yeah look at our great 'exclusives' and now you guys want to cry wolf?! Really?! Your a generation too late to make that argument

I hope you don't mean multiplats under the Bloodborne banner...

two negative do equal a positive.

Gamers make decisions based on exclusives for the system....so what choice does any company have. You have to compete. If Capcom can be bought, then someone has to make a purchase. If Sony didn't do it.... Microsoft will, and unfortunately that's the state of gaming industry now.

Kratos0Ace3430d ago

Microsoft started it way back with X360, with games like ninja gaiden 2, mass effect 2, etc...and this generation with peggle 2, plants vs zombies garden warfare, and apparently Ryse.
I cannot blame Sony for this because Microsoft should have expected this to happen if they play like that.

So to answer your question: it doesn't make it right but it's definitely Microsoft's fault because they started it. There.

This article is so s**t, Septic.

Witness the victim complex right here. Sony/Capcom being honest is what you're going to see, not hiding it like Microsoft were trying to on stage deceiving people and bending the truth of the word "Exclusive".

Septic… this is what happens when people go on about "competition being good". Without competition, this would not have happened. In other words… without Microsoft, this would never have happened. This article is just so reactionary, it's funny.

I expect the same article, if Shenmue gets announced as a PS4 exclusive or something along those lines, regardless of the details about how the game would never be made without direct financial contribution…. JUST LIKE you don't know all the details about if a new Street Fighter would have been made without Sony's contribution and support. Here's a bit of perspective for you: http://i.imgur.com/fxzsDZY....

People whooped and wailed about Bayonetta 2 exclusivity but soon got over it because they realised the game was not going to be made without Nintendo's support. Rise of the Tomb Raider…. It was going to be made anyway for all platforms and we all know it.

I personally don't see much "rejoicing" going on. I just think it's shocking and unexpected. The game looks good, and Street Fighter is a much bigger franchise than Tomb Raider.

LeCreuset3430d ago

@Septic

How can you get mad at someone and challenge their reading comprehension, because they called you the hypocrite, when you started the hypocrisy accusations in reply to the first comment posted, which had nothing to do with "two wrongs make a right." Abash never made a moral judgement on the practice at all. He just said it was predictable, given what's happened this gen.

LordMaim3430d ago

@Septic: You misunderstand my meaning. The "business is business" justification was given by people attempting to defend the Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusive. Well now the shoe's on the other foot. After Titanfall, the Gears of War franchise and now Rise of the Tomb Raider, this is what we can expect from these companies vying for our business. We have to accept this as fact, because we're not given the choice as customers. So either they're both acceptable or both unacceptable.

Personally, I've decided to just sigh and get on with it.

geddesmond3430d ago

OK then get MS to give back tomb raider and we'll get sony to give back SF5. All these articles appeared so quickly and Capcom hasn't even confirmed it yet. It could be Asia only exclusive. But while your at it get MS to give us Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall as well.

I've said it before and if this is true then X1 owners should get ready for a lot more of this because the bigger sales the PS4 gets the more Devs will look to it for exclusive games. It makes a lot of business sense to develop for 1 consol as dev teams and resources don't use up as much money. So cash tight developers will go for the bigger install base.
And if you haven't noticed but DR3 didn't exactly leave Capcom rolling in bank after going exclusive with that.

LeCreuset3430d ago

@DragonKnight

"It benefits fewer people than it would if the game were multiplatform"

Are we making the mistake of assuming the game would be multiplatform? When MS has demonstrated, and admitted to, a willingness to bolster deficiencies in their 1st party lineup by buying 3rd parties, can we just sit here and assume that SFV would be multiplat if not a PS4 console exclusive, that MS wouldn't buy it? We've already been told that Sony turned down deals for games that MS later snatched up as exclusives.

TheFanboySlayer3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Since I got bubbled down as off topic :(.....Here are my thoughts and how I look at it...

Sony and Microsoft are in a boxing match....lets say that the buying of 3rd party exclusives is like kicking

Sony when they were younger were the masters at kicking....(Getting 3rd party exclusives because they were popular).
Last fight (360 vs PS4)...Microsoft were set in making sure they learned to kick...now they are pros...While sony had quit back in the day and started using alot more hard punches (got 1st party dev support)
This gen (PS4 vs XboxOne) Microsoft has thrown in a few kicks...Sony not soo much....People are pissed but what can you do...the ref isnt against kicking. Now Sony throws a HUGELY powerful kick(since they're good at it) and everyone is outraged.
Its a question of morality..should kicking be banned in the boxing match? Is it fair that Sony kicks hard when Microsoft have been doing it for a while?....again all a question of what you think is right.

My opinion: neither group should be kicking in a boxing match but if one does to another, they should be allowed to retaliate by kicking back.

So Septic...2 wrongs dont make a right but both parties shouldnt be doing the wrongs in the first place...Therefore you can't say that Sony are being hypocrites when clearly both are at fault in my opinion.

jb2273430d ago

Regarding your other comment about Tomb Raider's exclusivity being one year, has that been confirmed anywhere? I thought that was pure speculation? There hasn't been any official timeline released as to when Rise will hit the PS4…I personally could care less about Street Fighter, it'd be a fun game to play for a bit, but I actually dug the Tomb Raider franchise a lot…if companies have to resort to these kinds of things, why can't they stick to what their market dictates? MS has always been a bigger online platform, therefore a heavily online game like the fighting genre should've been grabbed by MS, I play on the Playstation platform because they have always had the best single player story driven games, which is what Tomb Raider is. I think it's nothing but a bad deal for gamers when these kinds of things happen. I agree that Sony is simply fighting back in the battle that Microsoft started so I see where they are coming from, doesn't mean I have to like it. To the people saying that gaming is a business, unless you are a part of that business you are a gamer & that aspect shouldn't even enter your mind.

Although, in the justice system, there is the idea of self-defense & if this case was being tried in court as Sony v. Microsoft, Sony would most definitely be found not guilty in this situation.

DragonKnight3430d ago

@Yewles: No, what I mean is that FromSoftware will use the lessons they've learned, and the engine they developed, by partnering with Sony and use them on other multiplatform games. For example, a spiritual successor to Bloodborne called BludBorn could be made that uses the same engine as the original but is multiplatform and there's nothing Sony could do about it because it's not Bloodborne.

@LeCreuset: Whether or not MS would have snatched it up is irrelevant to the point. 3rd party titles have no reason to exist. They don't help the developer as much as multiplatform sales would, with few exceptions being where there is a clear fanbase on one particular console such as was the case with TR, or games like Final Fantasy where we saw the huge disparity in sales between PS3 and Xbox 360 FF13 games (even though they all suck) because FF is more synonymous with Playstation.

OCEANGROWNKUSH3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

The funniest thing about Tomb Raider is that it will be rushed to market for the Xbox, and they will be charged for the DLC/season pass... With a year extra dev time on a superior platform, and likely including the DLC in some sort of "definitive edition" for the PS4 who really wins?? There will be NO SHORTAGE of exclusives to play on the PS4 this upcoming year, nobody is going to miss it, and nobody is a hardcore enough TR fan to buy an XB1 for it. Street Fighter fans on the other hand? i can definitely see buying a console for SFV, i know many people who bought a PS1 simply for Alpha 2.

bouzebbal3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

this article is so fanboyish and so rubbish.. trying to play it neutral. LOL..
who gives a damn about TR anyway when you have Uncharted 4?
why do you dare talking about hypocrisy when you don't know the history behind this deal? We don't know if Sony paid for exclusivity. Comparing with TR is really not understanding the situation..

X1 just took an Akuma signature level 3 in the face with this.
I lost count of all games MS paid for last gen. Now show me an article you wrote about FF13 going multi, or Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia going timed.
MS started this practice, they are being countered at their own game. I see nothing bad in it but a game skipping X1 the most successful console ever is blasphemy!

gangsta_red3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Well Said Septic! This is exactly what hypocrisy of the sony fans is.

It's obvious that whenever Sony does the same thing MS is hated for they are always going to come out in full defense of it.

I remember when most here said Sony never pays for 3rd party exclusives and would rather nature a dev than pay for IP's and that MS is killing the industry for paying for 3rd party games.

But all that has changed when Sony starts to implement this and other supposed "bad" MS tactics. Now it's okay because they're just fighting back or the laughable excuse of "blame MS for Sony's money hatting tactics".

If MS smacked your mother in the mouth would it be ok for Sony to do it just because MS did?

I agree that the level of SPIN and Hypocrisy from most here has reached epic over 9000 proportions.

When Titanfall was announced as an exclusive to Xbox you all went ape saying MS is money hatting and keeping the game off consoles even though it was a new IP.

When TR was announced as a TIMED exclusive you all went ape saying that since its NOT a new IP it should be on all systems.

Basically no matter what MS does you guys will go ape. But again, when Sony does it, Still Blame MS for starting it right? Let's all forget how most here was die hard against buying third party IP's.

@Abash
"If you want to be mad at anyone, blame Microsoft for starting this. I was only pissed at Microsoft resorting to buying third party exclusives rather than investing that money and time into creating new Xbox exclusives and resurrecting more of their IPs"

What am i reading??? MS is investing in new IP's (Sunset, Ori, Scalebound) and they are resurrecting more of their old IP's (Fable, Crackdown, PHANTOM DUST!!!)

I swear it's like tunnel vision on this site just to paint Sony in a perfect picture when they do the same thing their fans hate MS for.

Recap:

MS does anything..BAD FOR THE INDUSTRY!

Sony does the SAMETHING...Hurray, take that MS!

tman73023430d ago

@Septic

I totally agree with you on this. People saying Microsoft started this are full of themselves and hypocrisy running wild. Timed exclusive has been going on for YEARS! Some gamers need to know their history, Tomb Raider was multiplatform, went Sony exclusive after. Sony paid money too so they're right to do that at the time and Microsoft was wrong. Game industry is so bias and full of BS. Seriously the low IQ of people point fingers and being hypocritical about timed exclusive is mind blowing.

@Xsilver
If you really want to pin point who really started timed exclusives, look at Sony, Sega and Nintendo. Microsoft came late to the party and they're doing what the other hardware companies did years ago so it's a natural progress. Now GTFO!

@Abash
"How is it wrong for Sony when their competitor (Microsoft) has done this repeatedly to them? It's simply them striking back, remember this is the business world"

Can you explain to me the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube generation? Last I checked, Sony repeatedly screwed Microsoft over and Sega...also, don't give me this generation crap. Like I said above, paid times exclusives have been going on for YEARS!

@ All the disagrees I know I'm gonna get...
Read up on history, educate yourself and asked this question...what Sony, Sega, and Nintendo did purchasing exclusive back then right? Microsoft bias is ridiculous. Disagree and we will know who the Sony fanboys are.

'Wow the hypocrisy is astounding on n4g, a bunch of agrees for ridiculous comments, lol...in fact the only way a xbox fan could be a hypocrite in this case is if they supported micros 3rd party deals like Tomb Raider and NOW say sony should NOT have done this deal.'

....I can agree with that. I've seen a few hypocrites but I respect those xbox fans who either, expressed their annoyance for their gaming comrades when the t raider deal was struck and those that claim its business now, like it was business then.

Im not into the 'who done it first' argument and that leads nowhere. Each manufacturer has committed their fair share of efferies over the years.

LeCreuset3430d ago

@DragonKnight

I think you mistake my point. You said a deal like this doesn't benefit the fans. All things being neutral, I agree. However, if the alternative is PS4 gamers not getting the game, because MS makes a deal where Sony won't, then it does benefit PS4 owners, who would have been deprived of it, otherwise. Perhaps we're talking about circumstances where multiplat wasn't really an option. That's speculation, but it's rooted in recent history and Phil Spencer's own comments—and let's be honest, this is all just speculation, as nothing has even been announced, yet.

FriedGoat3430d ago

I have never seen this much banter in one article. This is amazing.

What people don't understand is Microsoft popularised shady tactics. You support that by buying their products and then complain about another company doing the same thing?
MS basically bought their way into the console biz, and Sony have been in it for 20 god damn years. If anyone deserves some flack for moneyhatting it's MS. Wait for the details before snapping.

creatchee3430d ago

@abzdiine

"X1 just took an Akuma signature level 3 in the face with this."

Do you even Street Fighter, bro?

PoSTedUP3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@dragonknight- for a third party to go exclusive it would have to be worth their while, as in money to cover what they may have made if they released multiplatform. thats where im comming from. they would have to be mental to take a loss or make an obvious decision where they would make less money. i do agree that it sucks that SF fans will be more broken up. but its just business. nothing in [gaming] is guaranteed. MS bought minecraft, good for them, they spent the money so they deserve what they rightfully paied for and can use it however they like, they deserve it. same thing in this case. its not wrong imo, its just people being cry babies and not understanding how business works.

morganfell3430d ago

Okay Septic, I'll play. In moral superiority light, how many times is Sony supposed to wait until they respond? 3? 4? 10? At what point is it permissible? Or in your high mind is it never allowed? How many times have you beaten down MS on this forum for their actions?

As for gameondaily.com, where is their criticism from their cheap website for MS moneyhatting?

There is your real hypocrisy.

4Sh0w3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Why o Why well said. I respect gamers like you. PS fan, Nintendo fan, or Xbox fan or all of the above= just be consistent and call a spade a spade. If you've been around gaming long enough you know both do some bogus crap from time to time and I'm not referring to this deal because again I see it as smart business. I get the "mine is better than yours" back n forth, I mean that is expected like supporting a sports team but the hypocrites are as laughable as those bandwagon sports fans. Lol, maybe I'm just old fashion in that I fact check my information, then form a logical opinion based on solid info, and then I stick to it UNLESS some significant NEW information comes out to warrant a change of mind.

Hopefully I never love any company enough to just agree with them regardless of my original viewpoint...lol Ive called out micro on a few occasions but I can tell you alot of things I think microsoft has done wrong this gen already. . Neither are Saints nor Devils.

JMyers3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

So wait... MS money hats almost all their third party games this year... Just look at X1 exclusives... only 3 were from MS Studios (F5, FH2, MCC). They then bought Ryse, TitanFall, TombRaider, and had marketing deals with most for advertising... Which is similar to what they pulled last gen. The whole content first, console first, DLC to only one console... this all started with MS to cover the lack of IPs. They only reason they are in the state of having poor Indie support is because of how they treated them in the past.

Most PS4 games though were FIRST PARTY. This shows several things... MS cannot make their own games, they have no variety and throw their monopoly money around to get titles. MS are vultures while Sony nurtures the Industry through growth and investing in diverse IPS and studios. I wonder how much the billion spent on gaming were just for marketing and bonus content, and buying IPS... even Gears had to be bought. Xbox fans keep on laughing it up by making comments that the PS4 has no games or Sony has no money... fact remains... EVERY PS console had more exclusives than MS.

You mention Spin? Let me not quote the numerous MS PR spins. And this isn't even officially announced yet so let's wait and see.

On Topic: Third Party exclusives do not benefit the Industry. I would much rather Sony use this money to revive the cancelled Santa Monica Game.

mikeslemonade3430d ago

And this is why sales matter. Sony didn't probably just bid. They developed the relationship to do this and the sales. If it was just a straight bidding war than Microsoft would have won, but this is not the case.

Sony did not straight moneyhat. The difference is Sony does it in other ways like help with development by providing resources etc. MS straight buys.

frostypants3430d ago

@Septic, of course it's not "OK", but the reality is that this is business, and as such Sony is forced to take this route if their competition is going to employ it themselves. Good karma doesn't pay the bills.

Visiblemarc3430d ago

On the otherhand many of the MS fanboys who thought that Rise of the Tomb Raider was a "brilliant move" will now be calling Sony "evil and underhanded."

The lesson here is that fanboys NEVER shut up and it would suck to waste your life being one.

Just buy what you like and play what you like.

Personally I say, get as many platforms as you can afford...why miss any exclusives that interest you?

mike_honcho3430d ago

I don't like to think of it at 2 wrongs making a right but more like Rambo actually lol.. now hear me out.. Sony is John Rambo just minding his own business, trying to make it through life after a brutal stay in vietnam(last gen console war) then ms(sheriffs department) harrases and provokes Sony/Rambo and ultimately draws "first blood" causing Sony/Rambo to go into defense mode.. Sony/Rambo doesn't really have a choice but to fight back or suffer tremendous consequences since ms/sheriffs department would surely continue to money hat exclusives/pursue and ultimately kill regardless if Sony/Rambo fights back.. that's just how I look at it..

Prime1573430d ago

The real question that is never asked on n4g is...

How is this so hot? It's not even journalism.

Ch1d0r13430d ago

Why must it be SONYs or MS taking the blame, the pulishers are the ones in agreement too. Im just glad Sony is fighting fire with fire, fuck the old days where it would get pushed around by MS doing this sort of thing.

As consumers we will never get the real story, maybe Ms and Sony planned to get a couple of timed 3rd party exclusives. Ms said ill take tomb raider and Sony took SF5 for now. And nintendo took bayoneta all for them selves.

ShinMaster3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

What hypocrisy? Who said it was okay?

When Street Fighter was made exclusive, Xbox gamers complained.
When Tomb Raider was made exclusive, PS gamers complained.
So as far as I can tell, it's pretty even.

Actually no, both PS and PC gamers were screwed.

Why do you expect PS gamers to be upset about Street Fighter any more than Xbox gamers were upset about Tomb Raider being exclusive to their system.
Don't be irrational.
____

Now, let's talk about reasons and whether or not they make sense.
Both Tomb Raider AND Street Fighter (as with most fighting games) are a lot more successful on PlayStation systems. Even the new Dead or Alive (former Xbox exclusive) sold more on PS3 than 360.

Making Tomb Raider exclusive to a system where all of its titles typically underperform does NOT make sense. There was clear evidence of money-hatting there.
Making Street Fighter exclusive to the system/s where its titles perform better does make more sense. People actually buy these games. And at least it's coming to PC.

I'm not saying it's fair for everyone. But the main difference is that Microsoft and Square-Enix screwed the MAJORITY of its fanbase on PS4 and PC.

I like how this website, along with @Septic, only call out people as hypocrites when the wrong system gets an exclusive. When Tomb Raider along other previous money-hatting happens on MS's part, it's just business as usual.

If Yoshinori Ono didn't have the budget or R&D for a new game like he said, maybe Sony helped them the same way Nintendo helped Bayonetta 2 happen.

Fatal-Aim3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@ Septic

do you know how ignorant that sounds?

first of all, Microsoft started this war. and lastly, is Sony suppose to set back and play fair with them so that Microsoft can completely suck up all the 3rd party exclusives so that their platform will eventually sell into more homes, take Sony's entire fan base and leave them packing their bags to the unemployment line? you got some nerve.

Majin-vegeta3430d ago

King-u-mad3430d ago

@Septic

Fuck that bullshit. It's more along the lines of "money-hatting is okay" UNTIL "Sony does it.". There was no real issue with microsoft doing that bullshit... But low and behold sony does it and BOOM you automatically say its wrong and try to throw in "Two wrongs make a right do they?". Which in context means 1 wrong is okay for you... You serious? Fuck out of here...

Sheikh Yerbouti3430d ago

I'd rather say it chickens coming home to roost. As one of the PS faithful, I've always said this was bad and so many said I was butt hurt. Well I am saying it now, but look who is butt hurt.

JoySticksFTW3430d ago

Wow, Septic.

You're on here trying to defend an article from your site. And no one's buying here, so you run over to Gaf to try to defend your site there, huh Septic360? And out yourself even more in the process?

Well if you read that Gaf thread, you'd see where Ono said getting Capcom to sign off on funding for SFV was iffy, and he was actually surprised that SFIV was greenlit.

We simply don't know the circumstances behind this deal yet. Phil straight up admitted TR's exclusivity is to go up against UC4.

And even if this deal is a straight moneyhat, many don't mind because of Microsoft's recent 3rd party acquisitions this gen. Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Tomb Raider, Minecraft... And people are supposed to care when Sony finally goes in? Sony's supposed to just sit back and let MS buy everything up? Why shouldn't PS4 fans be happy for a huge exclusive?

If someone is jumping out of the bushes and sucker-punching kids in the mouth, and then someone jumps out and socks him in return, it's human nature to be glad that bully got some of his own medicine. And none of that two wrongs don't make a right crap. I'm always glad when the underdog (supposedly broke ass, no games having Sony in this case) gets to dish out some payback pie.

Anyways, you're the Editor in Chief of that site? Then let the articles speak for itself.

tontontam03430d ago

BUSINESS!!!!!!

NO MOVE WILL MEAN MORE THIRD PARTY GAMES LOST TO MICROSOFT.

radler3430d ago

lol, and people will be right back to raging when Microsoft announces some big third party exclusive at E3 or whenever. Then Sony will probably do another one and it will just keep bouncing back and forth between outrage/cheer depending on what console people own.

The funny thing is people don't even care how bad a game is as long as it's exclusive, that's all that matters.

5eriously3430d ago

I revel in the fact and are happy to see you and a few of your soul mates squirm with disgust at this Sony feat if true. Do not worry as there will be many more surprises to come and 2015 is going to be very interesting for ps4 owners. I will read all your crybaby posts just to laugh at your desperation but fact remains you backed the wrong pony instead of the pedigree racing stallion. But fear not, its never to late .............. you can always jump ship by making the right decision.

rainslacker3430d ago

Meh, MS fans were fine with MS money hatting for their exclusives. PS fanboys are no better than Xbox fanboys. Dunno why they need an article for it. It's a bad practice all around as far as I'm concerned.

Wizard_King3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

These major companies are in business not in love here people.

MS lowered the bar over 3 successive consoles and Sony simply has to keep pace or be left behind. These type of deals where exclusivity is down to nothing more than which side writes the biggest cheque will be a more common thing.

Thanks MS, this type if thing along with pay to play online and paid DLC is all MS's fault.

fr0sty3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

There is a lot about competition that isn't "right" by many people's moral standards, but that doesn't mean it isn't done. On-disc DLC, paywalls locking you out of functionality that is already built into your console, microtransactions, it's a part of making money. If people will spend the money to support the practices, it will be done to make money... and I doubt there will be any shortage of PS4 owners lining up to play this game, and I doubt it will turn out to be a bad investment for Sony, assuming there even was one. Just like locking your Xbox One owners out of using Netflix or other basic console features unless you paid their ransom for Xbox Live didn't stop you from buying one of those consoles... Or Tomb Raider, etc... You can't complain about a practice you are participating in. If you don't like it, don't support companies that do it. But, you'll probably have to give up your gaming hobby if you do.

TheSaint3430d ago

I'd have more sympathy if MS hadn't made this practice commonplace, as is you reap what you sow.

donthate3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

Personally, I don't care. If I want to play SF I can go on PS4, and if I want to play Tomb Raider I can go on Xbox One.

That said, hypocrisy comes from having double standard. That means, if you were against Tomb Raider being exclusive, you should be against SF being exclusive.

If you were for Tomb Raider being exclusive, you should be for SF being exclusive.

If you flip flopped in either case, then CONGRATULATIONS you are a hypocrit!

Most likely you won't see or cannot fathom or even comprehend what I said anyhow though.

People need to stop making naive comments.

Expect more stunts like these from both companies.

The Hypocrisy is definitely strong here. .

"Microsoft did it, so it's okay for Sony to do it too"

mcstorm3430d ago

No matter what you say the fan boys will find a way to spin one thing or another. Im not a massive SF fan as I did not get into 4 much but its a good move by sony and I expect more things like this to be done throughout the new gen as Sony and Microsoft battle it out with each other.

I do think this type of game is the wrong one to do it on as Street fighter sold about 2 million on the PS4 and 2 million on the 360 so just like TR I think they will miss out on a lot of sales. But that said Just like TR I expect there to be a GOTY edition out after 12 months with all the DLC like they did last time and this will be on the other consoles.

Gamer19823430d ago

Also its still coming to PC this isn't a full exclusive unlike what MS did with tomb raider and dead rising 3 (initially).

NegativeCreep4273430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

The hypocrisy is certainly STRONG...just not in the way that the article or the MS fanboys portray it; If SFV...along with titles like the next Tomb Raider and Titanfall...was announced as an Xbox One exclusive we would see a flood of articles with headlines like:

"Xbox One is making a Momentous Comeback!"
"Xbox One has the best exclusives. Should the PS4 be afraid???"
"Xbox One is the best place to Play!!!"

Yet now that the Playstation 4 is allegedly receiving Street Fighter V as an exclusive, now all those same people are complaining like they just got nut-punched. It all seems like nothing but sour grapes.

The MS fanboys want to throw the word "hypocrisy" around, yet they are the fanboy group that constantly change benchmarks to try to win arguments...hench now with the comments like "Street Fighter V isn't really exclusive because it's being released on PC", well apply that benchmark to Titanfall and Dead Rising 3 and Halo...now where does that leave you all now??? It leaves you with nothing, and that is according to your own rules.

marlinfan103430d ago

@negative

do you not remember the articles about MS screwing gamers when they announced TR exclusivity? how MS was giving gamers the middle finger? or is the selective memory kicking in right now.

King-u-mad3430d ago

@theFro
All I'm reading from you is "It was fine while microsoft did it. But now that Sony did it I have a problem."

King-u-mad3430d ago

@Marlin

How about the many other games that they didn't complain about... Don't use 1 title as the saving grace... It does not work that way. Also the reason why TR got that hate was because of PC and Sony fans. So you should be thanking them... Because it damn sure wasn't microsoft fans fighting it...

memots3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

ya can't put all the blame on MS for this one... yes they do it and yes it's for business but to say Sony are only doing it as a strike back is ridiculous

Mikey Mike3430d ago

It was, maybe that's why there really isn't any out cry over this when Dead Rising 3 was a Xbox exclusive. Either way, fighters only seem right on PlayStation, but that's just me.

XanderZane3430d ago

Not sure why fanboys are blaming this on Microsoft. Sony has been doing this before Microsoft even released the original XBox. I guess people forget that Final Fantasy & MGS were a NES exclusive for awhile until Sony came it took them onto their PS1. There was no Microsoft or Xbox back then. Microsoft came along later and did it with several SEGA games. Grabbing games like Shenmue, Phantasy Star and Sega Rally Racing. Some of the fanboys on here pointing fingers, need to give it a rest.

G20WLY3430d ago

Deep Down is a new IP. There have been no previous version for owners of any platform to buy into or become a fan of.

Dead Rising is a franchise that has appeared on both PlayStation and Xbox, but has since been denied for owners of only Sony's platform.

The two are incomparable.

Tomb Raider and Street Fighter are a different story. Both had past versions on both platforms.

With TR being story based and having recently been rebooted, however, it seems particularly mean to deny fans of the series the opportunity to experience how the story unfolds - especially since the contract between MS and Capcom would have been in place at the time they released the PS4/Xbox1 versions...

tman73023430d ago

This is the same situation just like Bayonetta 2.

Capcom need money for making new SF. So, probably Sony jumped in.

Anyway, SF was teased for PS4 way before that MS Tomb Raider thing! TR was in production for Xbone/PS4/PC, but MS blocked development for PC and PS4.

They usually have the most fighting games.

I knew people would defend Sony by saying it was just revenge.. But Sony did this with ironically the same franchise before Microsoft even existed.

If we want this to stop then we can't give the companies we like a green pass to do it. Even if the TR deal had never happened, you would be defending this move still. You know it and don't you deny it.

Yaay4me3430d ago

Well, to be fair this is just another of the practices introduced to gaming industry by MS. So i say, if youre willing to dish it out, you need to be able to take it as well.

Alsybub3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

It was introduced to the industry by Sony with Tomb Raider II, in 1997, on the PS1 and has been going on ever since. I remember people being up in arms at the time because the first game had been multiplat.

I don't get why people say this is a new thing. Oh yeah, it's a way of justifying hate towards Xbox.

Yaay4me3430d ago

Come On you cant deny that this is MS's ace. Sony sticks to it own developers for tge most part. The difference between the two is the extent to which they will go to make a multiplat game exclusive. Currently, Sony is in a position where exclusivity will come relatively cheap. And yet you dont see a titanfall, or dead rising in its launch line up. You dont see 3rd party exclusives halfway in the generation. Why? Because for exclusives Sony relies on its own first party studios. This is the reason why MS consoles slow to a halt halfway in the middle of each generation. And Sony's consoles take off from there. When the install bases get larger its more expensive for MS to buy exclusives and the developers have less incentive to make a game for half the gamers. As a result MS's consoles stop serving core gamers prematurely as we have seen for two generations now.

XxExacutionerxX3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

This is still a rumor and has not been confirmed by capcom. Also, I could care less about Tomb Raider 2. I just won't play Street Fighter 5 on Ps4 because of the crappy dpad/controller. I would hope that Street Fighter 5 take cues from Guilty Gear Xrd because that game look awesome, only problem. ..can only play it using ps4s crappy controller.

Veneno3430d ago

Oh really? Who has a better Controller /D-Pad?

guyman3430d ago

would you like fries with that salt?

rocketpanda3425d ago

Clearly you are not into fighting games, if you take them even remotely seriously you would have a fightstick, for casuals the dpad on either consoles are fine.

SF doesn't need to take cues from anyone, it's a different fighting game altogether mechanically and visually. Might as well ask Tekken to take cues from MK.

Now go be salty elsewhere.

Because of petty exclusivity xbox destiny players have to wait a year for our Downloadable content to be unlocked

Volkama3430d ago

That's the kind that can't be argued at all, it's just plain stinky and benefits nobody besides Activision.

At least with Street Fighter you can argue that MAYBE it wouldn't have happened without Sony's funding. And even Tomb Raider, you can put up a flimsy argument that MAYBE the game will benefit from the increased focus a lower number of platforms.

But timed content lockouts (which is a more fitting term than timed exclusive)? Complete bull. No matter how hard you try and reach for an argument in favour of the practice, there just isn't one.

Christopher3430d ago

I'm actually more okay with timed lockouts than third-party exclusives.

You're missing out on one strike mission and some sub-level 20 gear that you don't even need (I've never touched it since it's all uncommon, not even rare). But, you're able to play the whole game minus one strike as a whole than nothing at all.

Ability to play 99% of the game > inability to play the game at all in my book.

I'd rather a trend towards timed exclusive content like Destiny did over any third-party exclusives, timed or otherwise.

Death3430d ago

It depends on how much time. One year for content isn't really timed if no one will be playing in a year. If there were more than two strikes in the DLC, missing one wouldn't be an issue. I'm already getting tired of repeating strikes, that second one would have been a welcome addition especially since Xbox owners are paying the same amount for less content. I still think Bungie kicked their loyal customers in the junk with the deal they made. I understand they want to court Sony fans, but it shouldn't be at the expense of those that have supported them this long.

Fanboys are Hypocrites (this goes for all fanboys, not only sony).
Sony has been doing 3rd party exclusives for quite some time... this is nothing new.

As for Tomb Raider/Street Fighter exclusivity (timed), don't have a X1, but I would prefer Tomb Raider instead of Street Fighter.

Alsybub3430d ago

I completely agree. It goes for fanboys of any kind.

Christopher3430d ago

I also would prefer Tomb Raider. Both decisions are against how I think the industry should be moving. Unless it's truly a matter of the game never being made w/o funding (a la Bayonetta 2), I think other types of exclusive deals should be focused upon rather than taking games away from other gamers.

Death3430d ago

@cgoodno,

Tomb Raider underperformed Squares expectations. http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... Without knowing how much Microsoft invested in the new games development it's difficult to determine if the investment was made to fill a whole like Phil states or if Microsoft threw money at Square to spite Playstation fans like many claim. It wouldn't make sense for Square to take cash to prevent the sale of the game on Playstation since that effectively kills 50% of the games sales. The percentage Microsoft would have to invest needs to offset lost sales at launch minus sales after the exclusivity agreement ends to be done without losing money. There also needs to be something in it for Microsoft which is where the timed exclusivity comes in. That is the incentive for Microsoft to invest. Had the last game performed to expectations we wouldn't be having this conversation. Square obviously thought this move was in their best interest given the performance of their last release.

You also need to look at Sony's releases in contrast to Squares. Uncharted and Tomb Raider are competitors in the market. This competition is much greater when both release within the same quarter. Without a firm release date for either title it's hard to tell if this is the case, but either way Sony is in direct competition with third parties. Microsoft is too, but we all know their third party isn't as big.

Christopher3430d ago

***Tomb Raider underperformed Squares expectations. http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... ***

Ridiculous expectations aside (seriously, they sold 4m on last gen hardware alone, that's awesome).

***Without knowing how much Microsoft invested in the new games development it's difficult to determine if the investment was made to fill a whole like Phil states or if Microsoft threw money at Square to spite Playstation fans like many claim.***

I'm not sure where I brought any of this up (hint: I didn't). I just don't like and think third-party exclusives should exist in the manner that they are.

@Findingcrybabies
Couldn't of said it better myself!!
THE HYPOCRISY ON BOTH SIDES IN LAUGHABLE!
bottom line is, MS started it off with the underhanded dirty tactics and now Sony is playing them at their own game!! just look at the countless dlc first on xbox promotions the 360 had and now x1 has too!

Its like when ms done that destiny after shave add because they couldn't advertise for destiny on xbox that made me LOL so hard at them! and proved how badly they were butt hurt over Sony getting the deal!
What must sting even more for xbots and Microsoft is that most of the games they money hat, Werther it be a temporary exclusive or for dlc first, most of these games end up selling just as well or even better on playstation! LMAO now that would pi$$ me off!

It makes me lol hard seeing fanboys cry on either side, for me as a core gamer who owns and plays on all the platform its a comedy show! i think third party exclusives and dlc first on any platform is B.S at the highest degree!! it should not be a practice, but alas MS has been playing dirty since the early 360 days and now Sony is playing them at their own games!

I LOVE IT! i love the xbox brand, but i HATE the company behind it, i swear it! Any seasoned gamer like me who has been around from the beginning should be able to recognise the industry has become worse off since ms joined the game.
All they have ever really given us is xbox live, but even that was nothing new, its because of them charging for online that now Sony has done it!

The B.S they tried to pull at the xbox launch would of ruined gaming as we know it today! lucky for us Sony has always put the core gamers first, dont get me wrong they make mistakes too, but as a whole they are allot better then ms.

LOLOL at the fan boys who will cry! what a master stroke by Sony and i sense more is to come! Sony is on FIRE and not taking no prisoners!
I have a feeling SF5 is only exclusive in Japan on the PS4 and PC, we will see.

marlinfan103430d ago

you think MS started this thing of buying up 3rd party exclusives? you must not be too old then cause this stuffs been going on since before xbox was even a console. keep blaming MS though, we know you will.

LonDonE3430d ago

Dude MS did start this bull of dlc first on their platform, and even the money hatting of 3rd party exclusives was ms since they dont have enough first party studios and franchises this is common knowledge! and no Sony did not do the same in the PS2 era, 3rd parties gladly went to Sony because the ps2 was a monster and dwarfed the competition when it came to sales, the same thing happen with the PS1 because Sony used cheap to manufacture cds and was more developer friendly allot of third parties went with Sony!!! that and because the PS1 was easy to develop for compared to the sega saturn and N64!

Since ms came onto the scene all they have done is waste money on third parties instead of investing that money onto first party studios and i.p's! Sony has always had the support of third parties in every gen, only in the PS3 era because of cell difficulty devs went with the cheaper to develop for 360 and the big bags of money from ms was a big incentive granted not for all though.

I am 31 dude, and have been around and gaming since i was 3 yrs old!! do the math!! i own the x1,PS4 and WiiU see my avatar pic for proof! Trust me when i tell you, MS plays dirty! and so deserve to be played at their own game by Sony! i just feel sorry for single console gamers, and fans of these franchises they are the ones who miss out!

The salt in this thread is ridiculous! Mind you i will say Sony fan boys shouldn't get too excited either since MS has DEEP POCKETS! and will willingly waste money on pointless temporary exclusive deals instead of making more new franchises and first and second party studios! shoes on the other foot, not so nice eh?

tman73023430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

@LonDonE

DLC content and exclusives are two different things. PS2 didn't buy exclusives....hmmm does GTA 3 and Vice City ring a bell?

Sony, Sega, Nintendo and Microsoft have all wasted money on snatching exclusives way before so stop reading pro sony article and actually read history. Sony never did that....hahaha oh man that was a good one. Thanks for the laugh!

CYCLEGAMER3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

OMG....lol you guys a soooo hypocritical, just like the article says. Now these types of business practices are ok because Sony is doing it?? Now u make excuses for Sony, that MS started it, so now it's OK?? WOW!!!

I personally do not care because I buy all of the consoles but this hypocrisy is ridiculous with you people on this site.

If I am a Sony fan, I wouldn't be happy about this, for one reason...and that is that MS has more cash than Sony and they can flex their muscle and buy out any third party game they want. This generation is going to be interesting. I like it because it's gonna make a lot of people become multi console owners.

Majin-vegeta3430d ago

halfblackcanadian3430d ago

More to all the "Striking back" comments below, Sony did this a looooong time ago. The popular belief is that Microsoft did this first, but it's not the case at all.
Also, this is a deal because people are making it a deal. There have been PLENTY of console exclusives for Sony this and last gen that everyone just assumes is because every developer loves/pledges allegiance to Sony. More money is going on in the background, with everyone, that we all like to admit.

Now my actual comment: Lucky... I'm seriously jealous of this. I have an arcade stick that I was assuming I would be able to use for more than one (IMO awesome) game. Guess DOA will be a bigger consideration now...

The games not even exclusive. Capcom is going to lose millions once again for doing this crap. I could understand if this was a new IP, like Deep Down. That game being PS4 exclusive is fine. Dead Rising was a new IP when it originally launched on the Xbox 360. Street Fighter has been on just about every platform known to man. It has a huge following on all platforms and sells big numbers.Capcom would be stupid not to bring this game to the PS3, XBox 360, XB1 and the Wii U systems. If anything, this will probably be timed released for like 3 months at best.

DigitalRaptor3430d ago

You sound really, really, REALLY mad it's not on Xbox.

This game was made with direct financial contribution from Sony, just like Dead Rising 3 was made from direct financial contribution from Microsoft.

The pendulum swings both ways I'm afraid. Capcom is a dying company with $152 million in their bank: http://gaminrealm.com/2013/...

The game would not even have been considered for R&D without direct support, so saying that they are stupid for not bringing it to every platform is short-sighted. This will not cost them, because they didn't pay for a good portion of the development fees.

And the "timed exclusive thing"…. NOPE. Dead Rising 3 made its way to PC, but is not coming to PS4… just like Street Fighter V is on PC from the start and not making its way to Xbox.

XanderZane3430d ago

Not mad. I own a PS4 & PC. Sigh.. Unless Sony paid them enough to actually make a serious profit from sales, they will be in further debt over this deal in the end. Not sure where you're getting your info from. You have a link stating Sony financially contributed to the development of the game? It's not short-sighted if you lose more then 50% of your potential sales. How do you know how much this will cost Capcom. Are you in their financial department? No one knows if this is timed exclusive or not, as Sony & Capcom hasn't said a word about it. Yes fanboys were screaming at M$ to tell gamers if Tomb Raider was timed exclusive or not. How come fanboys are screaming for the same thing with this exclusive? Sony/Capcom are tight lipped and I'm sure many fanboys want to know if this is timed or truly only on PC and PS4. I still say it's timed. I can't see Capcom losing millions in PS3/XBox sales.

DigitalRaptor3430d ago

"Unless Sony paid them enough to actually make a serious profit from sales, they will be in further debt over this deal in the end"

You slated me for not knowing about the financial details of the deal, yet you make this statement as if you have the details about what went into making this game. SIGH…..
-------

"Not sure where you're getting your info from. You have a link stating Sony financially contributed to the development of the game?"

My information? http://www.dualshockers.com...

I wonder why Ono-san was thanking SCE staff for his time in Hong Kong and China, where he was doing research for his next game… I bet those kind folks at Sony gave him some masterful travel tips and he's thanking them for that… ;)

Get some damn perspective dude. Work it out. Sony have paid for R&D on this game. They have paid for that in return for exclusivity, just like Microsoft paid for Dead Rising 3. How is it that you think Microsoft can keep exclusivity on one game, but Sony cannot keep it on Street Fighter V?

You are sounding about as hypocritical as this article is trying to make others seem.
-------

"It's not short-sighted if you lose more then 50% of your potential sales. How do you know how much this will cost Capcom"

Again… how do you know if this game was even going to be made? How do you know they would have made it cross-gen when SFIV wasn't cross-gen with the PS2, Gamecube or Xbox? How do you know that they are not being compensated by Sony for even enabling this game to be made in the first place? You have to understand that Sony benefits from this deal FAR more than Capcom ever would and both would already know this. An exclusive Street Fighter is MASSIVE for a console maker.
-------

"Yes fanboys were screaming at M$ to tell gamers if Tomb Raider was timed exclusive or not. How come fanboys are screaming for the same thing with this exclusive?"

Microsoft lied on stage about the exclusivity, Aaron Greenberg further perpetuated the lie on Twitter, and it needed clarification from a more honest source, Phil Spencer who called it "timed". Sony and Capcom are being honest enough to say that it's also coming to PC and doing so upfront. You are guessing that it's timed exclusive but the truth is, Sony doesn't try to bend the meaning of the word.

If you're THIS desperate to prove that it's a timed-exclusive, why not do it with every exclusive game that gets announced for PS4, see how far that gets you. Why aren't you rallying fans on Twitter to make Sony "admit" that Deep Down is really just a timed-exclusive? I mean it has to be… right?

DemonChicken3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Lol. This article sounds like an angry kid wrote it.

dumahim3430d ago

Why are people talking like this is some new thing? MS was doing this during the last generation as well. Sure it isn't right, but Sony has to do the same to remain competitive.

And what the hell is money-hatting? People making hats out of money?

Notramagama3430d ago

I wouldn't be happy about this if I'm a Sony fan. If buying games is now fair game... (which it fully is now after this megaton), MS will buy buy buy. And we know who has the deepest pockets... MS could buy capcom, EA, Activitsion, whoever lol

starchild3430d ago

All I know is that I'm against it no matter who is doing it. I believe that investing in strong first party content is the right way to support and drive a platform.

Muzikguy3430d ago

I completely agree. This article is stupid IMO. Do we really think that Sony would be throwing money at a third party game had MS not been doing it since the One's inception?! They're doing what needs to be done because as a business, they too are trying to sell their own products and services to as many as possible. Not once did I think "wow cool this is awesome thanks Sony!" And think it's ok. This is one of those cases where I believe competition is a bad thing. Also, do we really know if mine was thrown at Capcom for this?

BX813430d ago

@abash
That is stupid. Sony did it because they want the most money. The same reason ms does it. I bet you blame ms for PSN being a charge service now. Sony didn't do it because they were provoked they did it because they saw a business model that puts more money in their pocket.

Cam9773430d ago

Microsoft continuously exercise dirty practices, they should expect nothing less.
Ahem.. Times exclusivity BS that always happens on XBOX? That shit's dumb.

kenshiro1003430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

I'm not going to imply that its right for Sony or Microsoft to do this, but Microsoft has been doing this for a while. It was only a matter of time before Sony retaliated.

Also, the PS4 is selling extremely well. Capcom isn't that stupid to ignore that either.

'If you tease an animal long enough, they will bite back.'

I'll just leave this quote here.

Blaze9293430d ago

the amount of defending and comments for this submission tells you everything you need to know.

Azzanation3430d ago

The fact you think this is ok if Sony do this is where your double standards show. Money hatting is wrong PEROID!

BallsEye3429d ago

how old are you and most of posters? 10? Sony been doing this hardcore before MS even got into the game. That's how they won ps1 and ps2 era. You guys are unbelievable. Get some info, kids.

awi59513429d ago

Sony invented money hatting. They did it alot during the ps2 days to keep games from nintendo, the dreamcast, and the xbox.

DARK WITNESS3429d ago

I must me missing something here or people have only been playing games since the last gen?

I mean when they say "ugly NEW trend".... Sony and ms have had 3rd party exclusives since their original consoles and before that Sony and Nintendo... and before that Nintendo and Sega.

It's only within the last generation that it's suddenly become this big issue thanks to the "entitlement" mentality that has developed over the years.

In all honesty though does anyone expect this to really stay exclusive?

it's nobody's fault, not MS not Sony. it's just business and it's been a part of gaming for a very long time. can't believe some some of the crap I am reading here lol

awi59513428d ago

Yeah exclusives can be good. Allot of games that were exclusive sold like crap when they went multiplatform, AKA dead rising and lost planet.

SoulWarrior3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

Surely if Sony money-hatted this exclusive, it wouldn't be on PC?

Gazondaily3430d ago

So what was the Titanfall deal then?

SoulWarrior3430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

I'm just saying, MS have a trend for lots of their 'exclusives' being on PC, yet Sony largely do not.

So I think if they were buying this exclusive they wouldn't put it on PC.

ZeroX98763430d ago (Edited 3430d ago )

you realize PC platform IS MS right? Microsoft still got their hands on this exclusive in some way. I wouldn't buy it on PC since most of the community will be on the PS platform, but it's nice to see japanese dev giving the PC platform a bit of love.

ravencry3430d ago

@zerox9876 pc platform is open source. only windows os is developed by microsoft. so ms doesn't own pc. there are different os like linux , ubuntu.....

hell even soe(sony company) develops game for pc like planet side 2. in the end its all about the profit.

anyone can develop for it.

GameDev13430d ago

Can Titanfall be played on any other PC software except for Windows?

Think very well with that brain of yours

MS owns windows, MS owns Xbox, they get money for Titanfall on both whilst excluding PS owners, Linux Owners and MS gets money either way

Therefore it is obvious moneyhatting

Apart from SOE, Sony has no stake with games on PC, so why put money into developing a game for another platform you wont get money out of?

Septic, you were given a brain, use it and the logic that supposedly comes with it

ravencry3430d ago

@gamedev1 yes titanfall is exclusive to windows because most of the gamers use windows for gaming.

microsoft gets money only when people buy os. it doesn't money when developer publishes it on windows as it is open source. anyone can publish freely on pc except companies like steam and gog takes 10% of the cost of a game.

publishing games on consoles the fee goes to vendor in this case sony and microsoft.

most of the japanese developers are releasing their games on pc realizing its making them profit using steam so you are fool to think pc games don't make money

Christopher3430d ago

***you realize PC platform IS MS right?***

That's incorrect. Unlike consoles, MS doesn't get fees for each disc pressed and sold for their system.

Windows is more an open platform and the reason why they are cheaper is because there is no producer of the hardware/software that takes a cut of the price as their own.

***So I think if they were buying this exclusive they wouldn't put it on PC.***

I disagree with this. I think Sony just couldn't put that much in to make it a PS4 exclusive and putting it on PC is not much work since the game is developed on the PC in the first place and then ported to consoles.

awi59513428d ago

It's because microsoft gave them free dedicated servers that's a huge deal. Look at advanced warfare pc its a lag fest and i just can't play it even though i have 2 R9280x cards in my pc. The lag is just stupid because it seems it picks the worst host everytime.

ravencry3430d ago

to put it simply sony only buyed the rights for console exclusive. timed or not. so developers themselves said why not make some profit on the side by releasing it on pc as it is not a console technically

XanderZane3430d ago

It'll most likely be timed exclusive. Not sure why Capcom haven't said that yet. Everyone drilled M$ about TR being timed exclusive, when it's unlikely Sony has enough money to make any game completely console exclusive. Capcom would lose a lot if they didn't put this game on other platforms.

CYCLEGAMER3430d ago

I said it once and I will say it again. THESE CONSOLES ARE NOT IN COMPETITION WITH THE PC. The PC is not a console, it's a personal computer.

Christopher3430d ago

Whoa whoa whoa whoa! Uh... whoa!

Are you saying the 'C' in PC stands for computer and not console?

WTF? When did that begin?!?!

dumahim3430d ago

What is money-hatting anyway? Never heard of a money hat before.

Stiffler3430d ago

Ok so it's where you get a hat and put money in it...

>_>

ChrisW3430d ago

Ah...>>> Conspiracy theories!!!

If Microsoft seriously felt that it was worth the risk, they would have put down enough.

Or... There's another game that will be coming out later that Sony allowed MS to take in exchange.

Hmmm...

Meh, let them have it - Street Fighter is nothing special. Rather have MKX any day.

Street Fighter 5: Analysing a Tarnished Legacy

Street Fighter 5 launched in 2016, and is widely considered a misstep for the hugely popular franchise. This article explains why that is.

Terry_B118d ago

Every Street Fighter is called a misstep of the series since Street Fighter III..and even the Alpha games were not liked by everyone.

SF V had a miserable start but later it did a lot things actually better than SFIV and SF6.

SF6 is the first SF since SFII Turbo for that I did not buy at launch. And today, around 6 months after its launch I still have no motivation to buy it.

kevco33117d ago

I've had every Street Fighter on launch since SFII on the SNES. SFV is definitely my least played of them all.

SF6 is very good. You should give it a second look.

Terry_B117d ago

Maybe in 2-3 years when there is a version that has characters I care for.

So far there is not one of the new characters I like..and my favourite 4 are not a part of it either. (Bison, Balrog, Sagat and Vega) + the whole hip hop style and the crappy music turned me totally off.

Looking forward a lot to Tekken 8.

Sano24117d ago

SF4 vanilla was loved by most and and not considered a misstep. It wasn't until they went revision crazy that people started turning on Capcom.

Terry_B117d ago

Don't remember the criticques it got for the big hands and feet, the sometimes weird looking faces, the lame boss (Seth) and that so many characters were shotos and yup..the many new versions. Just every SF got its haters no matter how good it was.

Nerdmaster116d ago

It was criticized for the first trailers having an interesting art style with those ink splashes, but the real game had none of that and people felt cheated. And Capcom decided to add some of those effects in the game later because of the backlash. But I don't remember any other big complaints about it.

EvertonFC117d ago

I grew out of fighting games, loved them as a kid but online you just get your ass kicked over and over leaving just the bare bones single player and also having no friends anymore who like fighting games either just makes me not want to buy or play them anymore.

CrimsonWing69117d ago

I dunno, I like Street Fighter 5 quite a bit. 🤷‍♂️

Shiro173116d ago

Sf6 is the best sf since sf4ae lol
