PS Plus vs Games With Gold October

Another month, another fresh batch of free games for Xbox and Playstation owners. PS Plus subscribers will be receiving a historical seven games spanning three platforms this month so Microsoft might just have it’s work cut out in October. Nevertheless let’s compare Microsoft’s and Sony’s offerings

How's this:

We get the games at no additional cost.

We get tons of discounts and the combined total of PS4 games alone pays for the service (that I need to play the much enjoyed Destiny.)

Wow, the argument that you are paying for them because you have to pay $50 a yr for Plus is just pathetic. I mean seriously, how cheap could you people be? You get 6 games or more a month for a yr for a measely $50 a yr, (not to mention all the other things Plus gets you, like cloud saving and all the extra discounts). And you people are goiing to act like its some sort of ripoff that you are paying to much for? Talk about cheap! And thats not even counting the fact that you can often get Plus cards for even cheaper ($30/35). I didnt hear you people complaining about paying $60 for Live just to play online, something thats was free everywhere else. Thanks to Plus, at least now you get a couple of free games with Live, which is a hell of a lot better deal than what it used to be, regardless of what games they give you.

Yeah, Driveclub as a brand-new AAA title pretty much gives PS+ the win hands down. Even though we just get the PS+ edit that contains about one third of the game it's still pretty sweet and a cool idea by Sony to promote a game like that.

It's really the first AAA title on the PS4 for PS+, so I guess it'll make many people happy and if the upgrade price is ok, I think Sony will make some good money out of this.

There is no free car dlc, only some tracks and then there is a season pass where you get cars and tracks for a price

I totally agree. Getting a AAA title at launch is amazing, yes it's not 100% of the game , but that is damn good marketing. I wish Microsoft was doing that.

I've downloaded chariot on xb1 but haven't tried it yet, seems like it will be fun once i start it up, and next Tuesday is drive club from ps, so to me seems like both platforms have good offerings this month

The Xboys that call the PS4 the "indiestation", have had crow prepared on a platter for them since Phil Spencer decided to change couple of policies and chase indie games in the same way Sony has been doing. Soon enough, Xbone will have more indie games than AAA releases.

Heck 99% of Microsoft's new game announcements at Gamescom were indie games, and they purchased an indie studio last month for a whopping $2.5 billion.

Sorry, but Drive Club Lite doesn't qualify. You'd have to be a real sucker to believe that's not just a demo with a special name. 10 cars? 5 tracks? That's a demo, folks -- literally 20% of the full game (50 cars, 25 tracks). If they cut 80% of the levels from a game like Batman:AA, what would it get called, other than "Batman: Arkham Asylum -- Demo"? I bet they think they're pretty clever -- probably believing that more people will try their game and buy it, thanks to the "free game" Sony "gave" them with their PS+ subscription. That's some seedy BS, in my book.

I'm pretty insulted they are trying to pass it off as a full game, and that it supposedly makes PS+ worth the money this month, when I can download other demos for free, on any service I like. If I didn't already own Batman:AA for the PS3 (the PS3 version was the best version, with the Joker DLC), I might be mildly happier, I guess, but as-is, the PS+ offering is just sad. I wonder... does the Batman:AA for PS+ this month even have the extra Joker content? It better!

Games with Gold is definitely the winner this month. The first Batman, although great, just doesn't stack up to Darksiders 2 & BF:BC2, and Chariot/Pix are an Indie wash for both services. Some of the older indie titles on PS+ are nice, but.. they don't really weigh-in very heavy.

Rainbow Moon is probably the only game I'm interested in on PS+ this month... but my bar for RPGs isn't as low as it was 10 years ago.

That's a pretty substantial demo. And selling demos, or only offering them with certain services or pre-orders or other game purchases has been the norm for quite a while now.

From what I understand, there's plenty of playability in the DC demo, and at no point was what was offered with the PS+ version misrepresented.

I don't disagree that demos themselves should be free, but any racing game demo I've seen before is usually one track with a few cars to choose from. Most games only offer one level to play with for demos. The PS+ DC version has it's own trophy set.

As far as quality of games, I think B:AA blows BF:BC out of the water, but can't speak for DS2, and still haven't tried the first I got from PS+ a while back, but I hear good things. I think this month is a wash though. Given that DC is a fresh AAA offering that I'm looking forward to, I'd have to go the PS+ as the winner this month for me, particularly since I have a PS3 and Vita to supplement all the offerings.

I don't think its exactly fair add drive club yo the list of monthly games since its going to be free on + forever and we have known that for a year.

If anything this months PS+ offering is worse than any previous month because drive club is taking up a slot
