Yes it IS an MMO. It's ALWAYS online (like an MMO), It's an RPG (like 99% of MMOs), It's got quest step up like an MMO, the only thing it does NOT have is thousands of people running around you at all times that you can see but they ARE there. If you are grading the whole package of destiny, including the story and all that then ya some peoples scores will be low but the people that are playing enjoy the gameplay a lot and arent worried about the story in this type of game. To be honestt, I would guess that they delayed their review to ensure that it was inline with the mean. For fear of missleading consumers in relation to the games quality (in either direction. Obviously that would be harmful to the sites reputation, so it's just a safe bet to delay the review then write basically, the same thing everything else is writing.

It makes the review irrelevant of course, as it's most likely derived from the opinions of others, but that's IGN for you.

So far I haven't seen much of the game that is actually massively multiplayer. It's an online FPS with some RPG elements which aren't very deep. It's only passable as an MMOFPS but even then we're stretching it but the game is enjoyable to play. I'm still having plenty of fun with it.

I'm really loving Destiny and I'm playing on Xbox One. No need to attack people for liking something. There's times when it's fanboys and times when it's actually people really enjoying the game. In this game's case, it's not fanboys. It seems either people love this game or they find it boring.

This review score seems much more fair than the 6s I've been seeing. I'd score it a 7-8, and have a hopeful mindset for 8.5-9 in the future, but that depends on how Bungie evolves the game. If the current trend of free DLC in between the Expansions keeps up, Bungie has a winner in my opinion.

They have a great foundation, I'd like to see them add more mission variety and alternative things to do. Addressing some of the communication and matchmaking issues for raids/strikes also wouldn't hurt.

You guys can really chill out with the "Is it an MMO" debate because Bungie doesn't like to call it an MMO. they call it a Shared-World Shooter.

Essentially it crosses with so many things that reviewers are seemingly forced to judge by the standards of an MMO, an FPS, and an RPG.

This is where destiny gets hit the hardest I think because of such a diverted focus so many simple things are lost:

For example some things that Destiny should have that are easy misses that should have been done are:
Proximity Chat
Hardcore Crucible playlist
A Story that is not shrouded in mystery (just because its mysterious does not mean its good)
Characters
etc.

Some of these things feel like stupid mistakes where others feel like flaws in design

It's not a bad game but it's not a great one either. 6-8 scores sound about right. It's repetitive as hell and it's not just one or two missions it's all of them, you would be awarding them for NOT being creative and this is Bungie. They are better then this.

I do agree though I find it funny how the majority of reviews are being honest yet most of the time with a game as hyped up as this with a HUGE developer behind it they would of given it good score automatically.

Wonder if they are ticked off they didn't get their review copies early.

If you enjoy a pure FPS shooter experience (which many people do) then you'll enjoy the game. Bungie described it many time as a "Shared World FPS". Which is exactly what it is. You cant play at the same time. You can only have the psn account as the primary in one ps4 at a time. So while it works for single player games where you just rotate which ps4 is primary, you cant play anything coop

Once you set your ps4 as the primary for that shared account, you can download the game and it will remain accesible from any other acc in the ps4, so you can use your personal acc

you can play at the same time. to do this you need to make your account primary on your friends ps4 and he/she needs to make their account primary on yours. so any games you guys buy between eachother you can play together at the same time. But this requires you both to be connected online. Your own content will not work offline this way cause your account isn't primary on your ps4. Thats the downfall between ps4 gamesharing. "Everybody can use every weapon type with equal proficiency, and until you get to the very highest levels of endgame gear, class-specific armor mostly just looks different."

No, they can't. Titans are able to take much more damage than either Warlocks or Hunters, so they are uniquely suited to close-range weapons like shotguns, allowing them to use it a lot more effectively than other classes. As a Striker, they are also absolute monsters up close with Storm Fist and it's super.

Meanwhile, Hunters are best suited for precision weapons like sniper rifles, scout rifles, and hand cannons, as many of their abilities grant bonuses for precision kills if you go with Gunslinger.

Warlocks are more meant for mid-range. They don't get any weapon specific bonuses, and they aren't well armored, so they aren't suited for close range combat or long range, but they can do it. Warlock relies on their abilities more than any weapon, which makes the class distinct.

The differences are even more obvious with the unlockable classes. So how they can claim that 'Next to how well-differentiated classes feel in Borderlands 2, or even Battlefield 4, none of Destiny’s classes feel like they bring anything indispensable to a party.' is beyond me.

You bring Titans to mash up at close range. You bring hunters to take out enemies at a distance, and you bring a warlock to buff or to do massive, consistent damage with their abilities.

Never do you ever feel like "damn we need more Titans" or any other class. Team comp is almost irrelevant (besides maybe if you're doing the top percent of content). It's not like a traditional MMO with good class synergy (Tank, Healer, Damage)

Except, it is. When you are in a strike, and you are being swarmed by dozens of enemies, you are going to wish you had a Titan around to thin the herd, or a Warlock to do some some crowd control. Same thing when you are getting sniped by a couple Hobgoblins or your up against a enemy where getting close can mean instant death. You're going to wish you had a Hunter. Each class meshes well with the others to adjust for all situations.

Basically if you're expecting a good story you'll be disappointed (the atmosphere is great though) and if you're expecting a deep MMO/RPG you'll be disappointed. However, if you're expected an excellent FPS game that can be played solo or coop in PvE mode and has a competitive PvP mode, all with stunning visuals and an addictive loot system that has light MMO/RPG elements then you'll really like Destiny. I'm part of the latter group and can't get enough of Destiny.

I wouldn't say that. I expected a good story, and I enjoyed Destiny. Sure, it's not as plot heavy as games like Mass Effect or the Last of Us, but it's ultimately an RPG. The plot was always going to be light to give people room for their own stories, much like Skyrim.

I'm loving it to, and agree that some people just love to hate. Having said that, I do feel that the story was absolutely horrible. It started slow,got better, and then just ended. I honestly didn't know it was the end until I went to play the next mission and there was none. I'm having a blast playing strikes and the crucible though. Trying to level up so me and my friends can try out the raid this weekend is a pain in the ass...lol Level 24 right now and can't seem to get past this level wall.

Played a lot of good game, mediocre games, bad games, and great games. Destiny is not quite in the great category but it's pretty close to me! See how I just gave you my opinion? The story is wack but the gameplay is so fun it makes up for it. This game was destined to get hate weather it got 10s,9, or 4s! Why? Because it's now the cool thing to hate on big budget games. I think this one of the few reviews that IGN has gone into a lot of detail in their review. everything they said i agree with.I've played this game for two weeks now. I'm starting to feel a bit bored with the grinding, i love the storyline but they could have fleshed it out and beefed it up more with the lore (gilmore cards do not count, we need a free expansion on the story) and told us more about how to use mechanics of the guns, skillset and how to boost your light after capping at lvl 20. Majority of the tips i have gained to increase my skills and XP has been through third party websites. All the tips and hints should have been in the game from the beginning would it have hurt to have a tutorial or help guide of some sort. end of rant. But other than that the scope of the game there is a lot of room for improvement. And with bungie and Activision behind this i hope it does succeed

The only thing I can agree with this review on is Destiny will impress or disappoint you based on what expectations you had from the game. I honestly must say this game has been some of the most fun I have had this generation so far. I honestly do no understand all the hate an negativity towards this game. I think many people honestly misunderstood what Bungie was actually trying to do with this game. They never said it was going to compete with Mass Effect's story or anything like that. And if you imagined this game to play out like that then you were sadly mistaken. What the game was intended to do, however, was expand on ideas that have made the FPS become stale. And Bungie achieved this by going back to the basics and addressing things that many developers overlook nowadays.

No 1.: It just works.
The game worked day 1. I cant say for everyone, but I have had no issues with the online experience of this game. It is very easy to join up with your friends and play story missions, strikes, and competitive multiplayer. Thats what I expected from Bungie and thats what they delivered. There have been countless games both current gen and last gen that have very poor online functionality and structure. For example, Battlefield 4. Dice said that party systems didnt fit with their vision of what the game should be. In other words " we were too lazy to make a party system". It was so frustrating to have to join a game and then have your friend later join only for them to be put on the opposing team. What do we find later, but Dice added a party system for teams to join up before the match. The simplicity that Destiny has shown with just getting the basics right is what makes me enjoy this game so much.

No 2.: Seamless transitions from different options in the game.
I love the fact that in Destiny you're not constantly taken to a bland menu after everything that you do. When I sign into the game, I am greeted with my ship. When my friends join my fireteam I see their ships pull in along side mine. Then when we choose the game mode we wish to play, we hit lightspeed and fly to the map. That is cool and its something so simple that keeps the player engaged to this world that they've created.

No 3.: The constant updating to the game.
I think what Bungie has done with the random strike missions, mutliplayer modes, and other such additions has been great. The fact that I can boot up the game and go to the Crucible and there is a new icon for a game mode that wasn't there where I played the night before is very welcomed. Most other developers wouldn't begin to take the time to add new things like this, nor would they offer them for free.

These are just a few things that I have thoroughly enjoyed about Destiny. I'm not saying it's a flawless game or that it's the absolute best game I've ever played, but it's damn close.

Im tired of talking about Destiny. I still enjoy playing it and its the only thing I've played since 9th, despite it's lack of chat support and content - don't know how I'll feel a month from now. Definitely once you hit level 20 it feels like a grind, but the jpourney to level 20 is lots of fun. Especially with friends.

Weeks to a review a game that boils down to shooting waves after waves of enemies. Either no one realizes they're being sold the same game over and over again or they don't care. Maybe because they're simple minded people who just enjoy shooting at things.

I get the criticisms for the game, but I can't stop playing it either.
