Eh, I'd rather just buy games when they're cheaper than risk infecting my computer with all kinds of viruses, trojans, key loggers, etc.

MRMagoo1233544d ago

yeh but thats what anti virus scans are for i guess.

Snookies123544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

Even the best virus protection software can miss things.

TFJWM3544d ago

I buy all my games now but in the past I was't adverse to a pirated game here or there. If you do it a lot its nearly impossible to get infected with a decent antivirus.

smoothdude3544d ago

It is so easy to buy games now-a-days that I just buy the games. It is safer and I don't have to worry about any warnings from my ISP...Well okay I did download game of thrones :)

Snookies123543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

@smoothdude - Yeah, I admit I got me some Game of Thrones as well... Lol, I don't feel quite so bad if the creator himself says to go ahead and download it.

Regardless, I try to purchase things even after downloading them. Just to show support, especially for things I really enjoyed. :]

pinkcrocodile753543d ago

@all - I don't torrent but if you are considering it I'd suggest running it over anencrypted channel. That way your isp cannot identiy the traffic.

Yi-Long3543d ago

Games I mostly just buy, cause I'm a console-gamer. I know you can technically mod your (last-gen) consoles, but I can just wait for sales for those games I'm interested in, or they're already offered through PSN+ for 'free' etc etc.

The only times I download games, is if the console-version is censored or if I'm simply having doubts if the game is enjoyable or not, and then I download a PC-version, give it a small spin for a few hours, and if I do like it, I'll end up buying it for the console.

Also, some games which I already bought for the console, I might download for PC, in case I want to take it for a very quick spin when I'm behind the PC and just want to be distracted for 10-15 minutes, but don't want to go through all the trouble of going into the other room, starting up the console, inserting the disc, etc etc.

As far as TV-shows go, some are unavailable here in Holland, so downloading them is pretty much the only way to get to watch them, unless you'd want to wait 1-2 (or more) years for (hopefully) an affordable box-set. Same goes for some movies which would never come out in the west, or only in heavily butchered form.

FamilyGuy3543d ago

That's what I was thinking LOL

Dark_Overlord3544d ago

Not being funny, but most games nowadays come with crap just as bad as what you listed.

Starforce anyone? Or Origin (that loves scanning your private files on your pc), and a whole host of other invasive/intrusive DRM methods. It's why I'm hoping far more games go to GOG.

Dark_Overlord3544d ago

Good Old Games :)

www.gog.com

A place for DRM free games and fair pricing (they fund regional differences out of their own pocket)

:)

duplissi3543d ago

I'm not saying that Origin is a saint (They definitely arent) but it was disproved that they scanned your hdd. The guy who broke that story doesnt know what he was doing.

Eonjay3544d ago

Not to mention supporting the developers. This is why consoles will continue to be around. Microsoft was very apprehensive about China due to its illegal downloads. They lost something like 95% of revenues on Windows in China and are very vocal about it. The Xbox One will be under complete lock down in China. Full force DRM with no used games. It seems excessive but can you blame them?

voodoochild3463544d ago

Lol there's a lot of console piracy too so that's a pretty dumb reason.

Mikeyy3544d ago

I've never gotten a virus from a .Torrent file. But I use a well vetted website, and fake files are outed by the user base and removed. its a very public site also. Read the comments before you DL, its that easy. Hasn't failed me yet.

Also Virus's that people find in some torrents are from the cracked executable they provide (an .exe that removes the need for a CD check), these are false positives, there is no actual virus.

Google Ads are what give people virus's nowadays, my favorite conspiracy theory website that starts with an "A" has given me 3 major Malwares sofar from their ads.

By major I mean I have to boot in safe mode to remove these nasties.

Pirating = Safer then browsing ad infested internet.

Patrick_pk443544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

I have a problem with, "pirating is bad when a video game is pirated". People pirate everything from video games to television shows to comics to porn, etc. But people are offended when someone pirates a video game, and that pirating a show is different. I don't buy games that aren't worth $60, and games that I won't play for more then a day. I bought the majority of PS3 exclusives, along with many popular and fun games on Steam, especially during the summer sale. But Goat Simulator, FIFA, Dead Space 3, and others certain types of video games are pirated because they aren't worth $60. I'm not defending piracy, but there is a certain extent where piracy is worth it, and it keeps people's wallets full of cash without spending it on utter garbage. People pirate to see if the game is worth the purchase, or they are dirt poor and can't afford to pay for their living and their entertainment. For example, imagine purchasing that Activision Walking Dead game, I'd feel sorry for that said idiot. Also, viruses, trojans, and key loggers never occur if you aren't mentally ill.

I'll await the down votes for speaking the truth.

cellur1113543d ago

If you're not stupid you won't get any of those.

awi59513543d ago

These people need to learn to hide their I.P

Volkama3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

I'd rather pay for games, but not because of viruses and such. I buy games rather than steal them because ethically it is clearly the right thing to do.

Similarly if I go to a shop and a cashier inadvertantly under-charges me, I will correct their mistake and pay what I owe. I value integrity, and actually take pride in doing the right thing.

BUT I am financially able to do so. I appreciate that there is a wider philosophical discussion to be had around some people not having the means to pay for entertainment, and who does or doesn't deserve to live to a particular standard.

achmetha3543d ago

this.

used to pirate games because i couldnt afford it - once i could, i would go buy it.

dont have to worry about that too much anymore though thankfully.

inf3cted13543d ago

Or just get a high rated torrent with tons of comments providing positive feedback.

windblowsagain3543d ago

I'd like to know who the sad sods are that download the SIMS.lol.

TheEternalGamer3543d ago

you noob. you don;t get viruses when pirating stuff. i don't pirate games but i do pirate software. most of the time you are safe. their are minor cases where their is 1 doochebag who will give you a virus but thats your own fault for not reading the comments and feedback and paying attention oh and not having your Computer Security up to date.

only a noob would be scared of viruses and trojans. when pirating.

Snookies123543d ago

Um, please stop calling me a noob... You can make your point without that, thanks.

RedDevils3543d ago

Snookies you are a noobs lol, you only get virus if you can't spot the suspicions software/game you about to download

Bobertt3543d ago

Just make sure you find a torrent with decent amount of seeders and read the comments, they will tell you if it works and if it has any viruses.

contradictory3543d ago

i remember when i was a kid literally everyone i know used to pirate games, and hilariously enough our anti-virus was pirated too

and the PC's we had back then were basically rocks
hahahahaha

but yeah, Steam pretty much makes piracy obsolete for me personally... also nowadays i have income obviously which is nice

although i do admit there's a possibility i've been downloading series and movies that aren't on netflix... i'm only human, also most of the things i download aren't sold here so that's my excuse at any rate... but i'll throw money at possible Steins;Gate localization. if they ever make that happen

masterfox3543d ago

lol be freaking honest please!

RedDevils3543d ago

Noob will get caught with virus, people that know where to download it or what to download will unlikely get those virus or tojans

ramiuk13543d ago

i still pirate games on on pc that are on ps4,but only if im unsure,i will install and play as it was like a demo, then go and buy it on ps4.

thief was one i tried, hated and didnt bother buying ,same with that suspect one(ghost guy) that came out other month which i didnt buy as it was crap.

1nsaint3543d ago

Personally i never got a virus by downloading a torrent. Actually haven't had any virusses or malware since i'm using adblocker.

I did pirate some games for my PC like skyrim, borderlands and mass effect.
But i already bought those games on my 360 full price when they released. Also bought all the dlc on my xbox and i'm not paying for the same game twice.

What's your opinion about pirating games you already own but on a different platform?

Blaze9293543d ago

I wonder what the people of Delaware do in their free time....

samchez773543d ago

Virus' are not a problem with pirate software on PC long a you know where to look and trust. Most people get spooked by "false positives" imbedded in the software by the developers.

I'll admit I know what I'm doing with such topics, but it's bad. It needs to be slowed down bit. Luckily the best games still mke good money through online multiplayer etc. Nerly impossible with pirate software unless you go through Tungle. Which is like walking down a dark back alley t night, in Russia.

jimjam34423543d ago

i guess the people who have jobs are the minority here.

Looks like the South really love their Sims.

BiggerBoss3544d ago

That's the truth. My girlfriend and all her friends are OBSESSED with the Sims. (Georgia btw)

Antifan3544d ago

Record high depression epidemic in the south.
In the Sims, they'll get to live the lives the will never live.

SilentNegotiator3544d ago

Lots of Sims in the NW and Midwest, too...

TI_213543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

God, you should look at Alabama/Georgia! The Sims 2, really?

That thing was free to grab just 2 weeks ago with all expansions etc on Origin... Oo

Even if they were to "protest" against it, why didn't they just get The Sims 3 instead?

IAmNotAMonster3544d ago

The hell is going on in Delaware?

lsujester3544d ago

And Louisiana. It's one of the more illiterate states in the country, I hope their using it for educational purposes.

mdfk793543d ago

oh the irony *they're

lsujester3541d ago (Edited 3541d ago )

LOL, I know! I caught my error right after I submitted the comment, but navigating this site is a pain on my phone, so I left it. Glad someone else was amused.

EDIT: N4G just now told me that you replied. I like coming here for news, but this site has issues sometimes.

TheCagyDies3544d ago (Edited 3544d ago )

Damn, I didn't know there were so many cheapskates in my home state of Ohio.

Oh and this graph is missing two states btw, smh.
the web source got all 50 states on their interactive map but whoever did this pic forgot

Baccra173543d ago

If you read the article, Ohio wasn't that bad when it came to downloading games, if fact more people download tv shows than games.

I rather know what's so great about "among the sleep" that has people torrenting it in Ohio.

equal_youth3544d ago

would love to see this graphic for europe.

RedDevils3543d ago

Everyone pirates, it maybe game, music, movies or software but unfortunately lot of people afraid to admit it
