Xbox has been buying many studios the past six months, but most are either unproven, or have gone through troubles lately, is that really a good thing?
Available right now on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC is the latest from a prolific KEMCO team - Horrific Xanatorium; a horror Visual Novel
TopSpin 2K25 Review - After a very long hiatus, TopSpin is back! Can Hangar 13 bring the venerable tennis series back to relevance?
Say what you like, but virtual farming is big business. And that means the release of Farm Tycoon onto the Xbox ecosystem should appeal.
“For almost this entire console generation, the Xbox One has been suffering against the competition for first-party exclusive games, their announcement/launch woes aside”
It’s beyond absurd how Microsoft diminished Xbox 360’s first party support in its latter lifecycle to focus on its successor, only for the Xbox One’s first party support to be underwhelming and that consumers have to once again wait for the successor once again to get better first party support.
“Also, when you take into account Microsoft’s history with shutting down or liquidating studios, I’m almost worried for these developers. Bungie and Twisted Pixel left MS, Lionhead was shut down, along with 10 other studios such as Ensemble Studios and more. 10 former second party studios have parted ways, such as Mistwalker, Q Entertainment, and Epic. And lastly, an additional 13 second party studios have closed shop for one reason or another.”
Microsoft’s past history with all these other developers does elicit some worry. Even the developers under Microsoft currently aside from Turn 10 can’t be counted on to consistently deliver high quality content that’s GotY worthy. We can only hope that Microsoft cultivates better relations and quality moving forward with these acquisitions.
Unlike previous unproven studios, at least these ones should have the financial resources to prove themselves.
Going through financial troubles doesn't mean they haven't made good games lately. InXile, Obsidian, and Ninja Theory are great.
Every studio starts as a B (or C) studio... in time, if talented and with budget, they could become AAA studios.
Some of the studioes are really good. Playground Games for example. Yes - lets be excited! Maybe they will fund some studios so that they might make even better games :)
