No one won this E3. Lets be real for a minute here. Its was the most average E3 showing in recent memory. MS showed nothing new and exciting (apart from Ninja Theory's acquisition) and Sony left us wanting more even if their game play videos were the best part of the whole E3 conference. I hope they left the exciting stuff for PSX!

Sony was honest. Their show was brutal and specific. They also made anything Phil Spencer ever said about console power immaterial.

Sony had confidence in their games. They didn't throw 40 multiplatform games at you and wave their hands to try and distract you from the standard HALO (no gameplay) Gears, and Forza.

If you think MS had the best conference and is leading the field in pushing video games forward then you were one of the people over whose eyes Redmond was successful in pulling the marketing wool. Come this time next year and those physics calculations and cloud power in Crackdown haven't shown up and you realize nothing MS has promised is materializing, just remember what happened. Some people never learn.

Agreed. I'm not really a fan of what Sony showed but I can definitely see why many would feel that Sony's games look more interesting. They have a broader appeal. All in all, MS did the one thing they really needed to do, which is to show the world that they really are committed to making games (even if their holiday lineup is sparse). Speaking of sparse, wasn't that the moment in time when Sony finally got down to business and pumped out games?

OT: Phil talked yesterday about how the studio acquisitions were going to affect games output. It sounded to me like MS has more games that could have been shown and that they may be making some more announcements later this year too.

- Forza was expected, yes, but what it delivered was not. 72 player online, dynamic weather, dynamic seasons that are even unique year over year, terrain deformation upgrades in muddy and snowy conditions, a 60fps mode, and more.
- Gears 5 seems to be a lot more story driven, which is what MS needs to focus on, right? The combat looks really intense too and that's where the fun is in gaming so gears is pushing both boundaries.
- Gears Tactics is basically X-Com, so it's not even close to the same gameplay of the main franchise. This genre could use a new AAA addition and if it's as good as X-Com it's going to be pretty sweet.
- Halo Infinite is attempting to reboot the series in some ways, and even though it's a long way off it's good to hear that they intend to rethink how Halo is made (look what the new God of War did for that series). Also, a new engine means that even an open world experience is plausible; 343 can build the engine to suit their goals.
- Battletoads!!!
- Both of the SoT DLC updates look really fun too, adding significant amounts of content to the game and definitely going to keep player interest high.
- Let's not forget that even though it wasn't revealed at the show, Rigor was announced too.

At any rate, I don't think you watched the same conference I did because it's not just the expected Halo, Gears, Forza that debuted this year.

BUT, what I do not agree with and what I don't get from you is that you complain about Sony not having any new games to show, yet all MS did was the same thing. Sure, FH4 is new, Gears is new, Halo was just a teaser and we all knew those 3 were coming already anyways, no surprises there AT ALL. Then they showed DLC of games we know or showed games we've seen before but the majority of the games MS did show were games that are multiplats which weren't exactly surprises either...

And yes. FH4 is new and will feature a 60fps mode for the X. So, pretty DANM AMAZING if you ask me.

Halo Infinity is NEW and will take the franchize in a new direction. It may be not exciting for YOU, but it´s definelly exciting for HALO fans like myself.

Gears 5 also will be different from everything with see so far on the franchize, which is good and refreshing.

I´m sure that Microsoft reafirming that their AAA games would be day one on Game Pass took the haters and naysayers by surprise.

Tbh it was a tie for me. if I only had a ps4 or a xbone, both company conference wouldn’t had convince me to buy the other. It was really good tho.

I do say Microsoft had a better presentation and Sony had the better exclusive. I literally almost turned it off when the guy in the beginning was performing lol. They redeemed them self quickly thank god.

I thought it was about a tie. Playstation showed the 2 games I cared most about in The Last of Us 2 and Resident Evil remake. Their exclusives looked very good but they allowed XBOX One to reveal way too many third party games that are also coming to PS4, and that probably made the XBOX One conference more exciting that it needed to be.

Will any of this affect sales? I still think PS4 had the better exclusives and still getting all those third party games XBOX One revealed. So, I don't think it's going to matter much in sales. In that case I think PS4 took care of business and did what they needed to, But as far as just who won the showing, the conference itself, I guess XBOX One.

I think the only one that has been at E3 before was death stranding. Now remix is using some fuzzy logic to get around death stranding being shown at a previous E3. But for the others, those were at different shows, not E3.

MS had more surprises even if they were 3rd party multiplat games, the real kicker is the aquisition of the studios. Glad to see they are actually taking it seriously when it comes to building their first party.

That being said Sony gave me what I've been waiting for, for me personally nothing tops finally getting gameplay on these games I've been dying to see, though dying light 2 came close.

So to me it's more a quality vs quantity deal and I'm biased given how much I love tlou. Biases aside to me they kinda time for different reasons personally

I disagree. Sony delivered a lot of what we were already expecting other than Nioh 2 and From's VR game. The trailers were awesome and the games look awesome, but let's be honest...….folks watch E3 for announcements and Sony had few. Laydon said that would be the case before the show. So it is was it is. Sony already has a stellar lineup of game and I'm guessing they are gearing up for new hardware. Either way, Sony did not win, imo.

Microsoft brought the goods. The through out Halo, Forza, and Gears for their core fans and a whole slew of multiplats. Ending with Cyberpunk2077 was genius. I was more excited watching the MS conference as a Windows 10 gamer than I was watching Sony as a PS gamer, frankly. And then there were the studios. Microsoft finally has the studios to create games rather than contract them out to others. Best news from them in a while.

So I'm definitely of the opinion that MS won.

Only if you already own an xbox and love froza/gears/halo. But multiplats to me equate to a commercial break for people who own console x instead of console y, just to show them other games coming soon to their platform of choice. Showing me cyberpunk 2077 in no way makes me want to buy an xbox. Gets me pumped for cyberpunk. But I'll spend $60 for on PS4 rather than $360 to buy it and an X1. Apart from that, if forza gears and halo haven't already convinced you to buy an xbox, I doubt they will now. No, to me how xbox won was by having better presentation and their long term plans (next xbox and new studios). And with that in mind, xbox still has a big hurdle, actually delivering on their promises when it comes to games. lionhead, scalebound, rare, crackdown 3, all have me, at best, cautious. I'll still wait and see but expectations are firmly in check for me.

Ultimately there was no good conference this year. Sony lacked the wow factor of unannounced titles and had needles intermissions. And don't get me started on the psvr lack there of.
Meanwhile Ms trotted out the same old exclusive titles with a new number on the end.
Square, ubi and ea failed to impress and bethesda somehow had the most to say but is suffering major blowback by turning their most popular ip into a rust clone.

Overall this year is a d average from everyone.

I guess we still have Nintendo and that rumoured fallout 3 title remake might happen but the odds are low that Nintendo will buck the trend as they just released a mario and most titles would be to early in dev to talk about outside of smash bros

Tbh, i think Ms actually had a better conference. They showed games after games (ofcourse mostly third party) None of the intermission, rock band, dance nonsense.

Sony for me though, the format of the conference wasn't that spectacular. But boy did they show off their games and how. Ghost of Tsushima was gorgeous. Looks like i got my Tenchu fix. TLOU 2 was amazing. Spiderman was awesome. Can't wait for it. Death Stranding? Whooaaa...what the hell was that...i want to know more..im hyped for this really.

Microsoft definitely had a better E3 than Sony. However, you have to take into consideration that Sony has presence over 3 conferences a year: E3, Paris games show and PS experience, Whereas Microsoft generally only has a presence at one event a year namely E3. In addition, it was a crucial E3 for Microsoft to come out firing. Naturally, Microsoft had more incentive to come out swinging. but anyway, this E3 proved Microsoft are making some serious strides to improve their first party output. That's a good thing for all gamers. These past 2 E3's for Sony have been rather disappointing to be honest. That doesn't matter though, they have exclusives other publishers would kill for and delivered their promise to gamers for new AAA ip exclusives throughout this gen which is the reason why they have dominated.

Microsoft actually was good, but lots of multiplats(world premiere) , that is also good, they are building up against all damage done. Sony was ok, the remedy game was a nice suprise, overal was sort of follow up to their exclusives. Good for everyone!

I really hope that MS will catch up and make the competition got nuts again in terms of games development.

As a look at my comment history will demonstrate, I am a Sony fan first and foremost; I would like to think I am a fan rather than a fanboy.

In my opinion, I think MS had the better conference this year, I think the production values were better and the pacing of the show was superb. I do however, feel that they missed the opportunity to deal a knockout blow because they still seem to be relying on the same franchises that they have relied on for the last 10 years and their new studios simply cannot compete with Sony's stable of devs.

I think Sony fumbled a little this year, not so much in respect of the games shown, because literally everything shown looked incredible, but they fumbled in respect of the spectacle. It was cool that the conference started in the same setting as the Last of Us 2 demo but for anyone not at the show, the impact of that was minimal and the resulting intermission was painful to watch.

I do feel like just 1 more big announcement might have elevated the perception of the Playstation show a little and I really wanted to see a release window for Last of Us 2.

I think my take away is that as a Sony fan, I have the most to anticipate in respect of upcoming games and that MS didn't give me any reason to dust off my XB1 and while there were lots of pretty speeches about commitment to the industry, I have fallen for that before with MS.

In my opinion. I think it was a tie. Microsoft had a awesome conference and amazing 3rd party showings. Sony had the 5 great exclusives that carried their experimental conference. My two cents.

In Sony's defence...they have already published so many games in the last few years where as Microsoft left a big void for their fans. And Sony doesnt lay their focus on E3 anymore in since they got their own big event the Playstation Experience. This E3 had no major surprises from both MS or Sony. I cannot state this enough...it is just no possible anymore to announce new groundbreaking games every year. Development cycles are waaay beyond where they were 5-10 years back. It seems like everybody here expects to get new games big games every year.

games wise, not counting the 3rd party-debuts, Xbox showed more exclusives in trailer/teaser form, while Sony showed us how their exclusives play (except for Death Stranding)...

Sony won on the exclusives front for sure, but MS showed off more games and their conference had much better flow (It was essentially Sony’s from previous years). Only reason I’ll say Sony was better is because they understand the definition of exclusive, and I’ll be be playing any of the MS press conference games I care about on either my PS4 or PC. Nothing they showed requires an Xbox.

I think it’s safe to say that Sony knows theyve won this gen by the numbers, so now they’re just coasting and letting their top tier exclusives do the talking for them.

Sony had a solid conference with their exclusive games. Microsoft cannot even get close to the quality of Sony's exclusive games.

Microsoft conference was better than their past conference but it was not better than Sony's.

Calling a bunch of multiplatform games "exclusive" is very misleading. Relying too much in games that ultimately will sell better on the competition is not a good point.

Xbox did not screw their conference as always. That's good but doesn't mean it was the best.

objectively speaking though, microsoft ones was more entertaining than sony one. thankfully i did not stay up like last year ... 2 consecutive years were sony is kinda low "ballin".

2019 better be a PS5 only show, i don´t give a wet ### about TLOU2. Both games could not be more apart from each other ... first one a character driven narrative, second one so far a tomb raider rip off (better than the original) with lots of gore kills. no clickers? wheres joel ... what´s up with the face of her female friend, why the misandry? ...

i´m so done with stealth games, thusima at least has some sick gameplay with a grappling hook. Spiderman has some wicked action going on ... TLOU2 has the same stealth gameplay ... c´mon spice things up ND. thank god for death stranding ... best game of e3.

Ubisoft was better than xbox and sony.

Sony warned us that they will focus on 4 games and that is what they did, yet to me E3 is all about the surprises and there were none which is disappointing.
Let’s hope they have new announcements for games on or other conferences and expo.
Nevertheless the gameplay and graphics of TLOU2, Ghost, Death Starnding and Spider-Man looks amazing so I can’t fault them for wanting to focus on those games as I will definitely buy them.

Xbox has the same issue that they had for the last few years, no games and the usual rubbish recycled over and over again.
Frankly I’ll rather buy some of those games on PC

Take away MS 3rd party support and they barely have nothing as far as games. Sony showed a few good AAA title but did not have the 3rd party support MS had at their showing.

TLOU2 had way too much stealth gameplay. GOT looks amazing but the gameplay needs to be faster in pace and the gameplay mechanic just wasn't fluent enough. I hope spiderman has a skill tree in the game because I think the attacks move just seems a bit repetitive for my taste. Death stranding didn't seem like a complete game to me based on theE3 demo they showed.

Microsoft had the better show but not the better games and games is what its supposed to be about. Judging on pacing format and presentation alone it was Microsoft's year so far. Judging on games its no contest Sony wins hands down but that's nothing new.

The last of us 2 looked like an expansion of the first with one woman design being killed over and over again. Ghosts of T enviroments saved the boring gameplay and Shadows die twice was more interesting. Overall Xbox killed E3 but no gameplay of Cyberpunk was disappointing

My two cents which I'm sure no one will read or care about:

SE: Loved the old school style, but not enough awesome stuff shown.
Bethesda: pretty standard presentation but my problem will always be that I'm just not into first person games and with that in mind, Bethesda has nothing for me 9 times out of 10. Wolfenstein being the exception to that first person rule and evil within being that 1 time out of ten.
Sony: by far my favorite content shown but their presentation actually pulled me out of my hype. Take away that crappy structure and put in just a dime a dozen format and Sony would have won.
MS: As far as current gen goes, winner by default. As far as the long game, the winner handily. MS has nothing for me this gen. Halo/gear/forza mean nothing to me. And those were pretty much all they had of note. They had the best presentation, but what has me most excited was the acquisition of the new studios, I wish more of the 5 were created rather than bought but 3 of they only made games for MS anyway so that makes sense. ninja theory has me worried but hopefully they don't become a GaaS, forced multiplayer house. I'll wait and see. But yeah, all in all MS did something I didn't think possible, I went in just looking for multiplats I'd be buying on PS4 but ended up seriously considering buying a next gen xbox, a console I thought I was done with. They may not have beat Sony in terms of what was shown but they made the biggest improvement.

PC, limited games etc. I'm not interested in and probably won't even watch their offerings. that just leaves Nintendo. But they're much like Bethesda, I mostly don't care for their games. Mario, Donkey Kong, pokemon don't mean anything to me. Zelda does but I have that on wii u. Maybe some xenoblade and Metroid will push them pass Square, but beating Sony or MS I doubt is in the ball park.

As an owner of both consoles, I am happy with both presentations.

Sony showed gameplay footage of all the exclusives I wanted to see.

Microsoft showed me a path for their future.

This was what I wanted, and it was what I got.

It's all about exclusives and Sony delivered again, TLOU2, DS, GOT and Spidey gameplay won it for Sony, top it of with RE2, Nioh2 and Control. MS had a good conference aswell but mostly 3rd party games and nothing exciting.

Microsoft by any measure is losing this generation period and by a huge margin. No matter what they did during a single e3 confrences ( short of a huge announcement that didn't happen) this was never going to change. All they can hope for is that decisions they make now payoff next generation, I have my doubts about how committed they actually are for the long term.
