Assassin’s Creed Isn’t Really Taking A Year Off Anymore and I Couldn’t Be More Excited

Assassin's Creed has seen a new iteration release every year since 2009, but that pattern is ending this fall, well, sort of.

How anyone can still like this series baffles me. It's just a never ending parade of mediocre-at-best history primers, filled with revisionist history and overdone conspiracy storylines.

DarXyde2772d ago

I stopped caring midway through Revelations. Felt like a chore getting through it. 2 and Brotherhood, in my opinion, will always be the pinnacle of the series.

Cy2772d ago

The whole Ezio trilogy was the pinnacle of the series for me. I stuck with 3 because I liked the setting and I thought I'd actually be getting a conclusion to the story I'd been playing for five years, but I stopped halfway through Black Flag when I couldn't stand the awful writing and characters anymore. I haven't touched an AC game since.

migh_and_highty2772d ago

Syndicate was pretty good tbf

scark922772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

I agree completely, Revelations was so hard to beat but I did it, 2 and brotherhood are also my favourites! 3 was ok, I enjoyed Black Flag quite a bit but I was so used to AC gameplay by then to fall in love with it. Have not played any Unity or Syndicate yet.

Darkwatchman2772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

I could understand that someone could still like the series even though I don't, HOWEVER I don't understand how he is happy to have the same games every year and is happy for remasters this year when they're all so similar that they start to feel very samey.

Take that familiarity and now add in actual old games being brought back this year and this guy is happy after almost a decade straight of the same core game?

I'll use this and liken it to God of War series. The franchise is not annual, but there were 6 games and I love them all except Ascension. I think it's a great series, but that doesn't mean I wanted the new God of War to be more of the same. Despite my love for what God of war is, enough is enough. They're all essentially the same game. You'll use the same blades(with a different name) in every game and they all have the same combos in EVERY game except for Ascension where combat was changed ever so slightly. We already have 6 games of the same crap. We need something new now so I'm glad the new God of War is what it is. Different.

Yui_Suzumiya2772d ago

Syndicate is actually the only one I liked :3

CrimsonWing692772d ago

Dude you freaking said it, Ubisoft just stop already!

vickers5002772d ago

Last one I played was 4. Really liked that one. They're good and fun games if you haven't played them in a while. I always buy them on sale. Just bought unity for 5 bucks used a couple of weeks ago, will get around to it eventually.

starchild2772d ago

I've played most of them and I've enjoyed them. I love the gameplay mechanics and freedom of the games. I love the historical settings. And the stories are generally pretty interesting to me. I don't find the Assassin's Creed games to be any easier than 99% of other games out there (minus Dark Souls, Nioh and a few others). I've especially loved the stealth mechanics in Unity and Syndicate, as well as the customization options.

I don't play the Assassin's Creed series and I vaguely remember the first game when it first released.

I can completely understand why people play Assassin's Creed in enjoy it simply because we're all Gamers seriously buddy gaming is not something that's an absolute or objective, it is something that is subjective.

I may not like a lot of games but I'm fully aware why someone likes a game...

For you to question why people like a game that you don't is extremely self-centered, I mean you do know other people exist in the world besides you right?

A series that needs to see its end.

starchild2772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

Or how about you just buy what you like and let us do the same?

How freaking arrogant and selfish to ask for a series to die just because you personally don't like it. What about the millions of us that do?

I've never understood this mentality some people have. I'm sure there are certain game series you enjoy that I think are crap, but I would never say they should cease to be made.

fenome2771d ago (Edited 2771d ago )

Exactly, I don't particularly care about AC or COD, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to bag on it. I'd rather focus on the games that I actually like than worry about the ones I don't.

People try to act like games are tailor-made just for them now. It's kinda funny sometimes, but mostly just sad and pathetic the rest of the time.

_-EDMIX-_2771d ago

Completely 100% agreed have you seen the idiots on this site begging for series to disappear based on their own personal distaste?

What's funny is Assassin's Creed disappearing doesn't automatically even mean another series would take its place we've seen many intellectual properties disappear with nothing to fill the void or the team out right being closed down.

This is a situation where it's by what you like don't buy what you don't I see Zero reason to cry and complain about a titles existence simply because you don't like it that seems extremely strange arrogant and self-centered and that's a lot of people on this site.

Consider every single time remastered gets released one of the top whining tearful responses is that they've already played it , as if its sole existence was for them to play it a second time, never mind that Millions upon Millions have been played the title.

They are literally unable to discern that other people exist it's literally as if they have no idea that the purpose of its existence could also be for others to play it there simply only thinking about what they want.

Smh.

Kaneki-Ken2772d ago

And Prince Of Persia need to make a comeback.

rezzah2771d ago

They just need to end where the last story left off with the new prince.

Seafort2772d ago

I think Call of Duty needs to end ASAP doesn't mean it's going to happen.

I just think Assassin Creed has got stuck in a rut and I hope Ubisoft can pull the series out of it for their next game.

Psychotica2772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

Why? Does it keep you awake at night?

rezzah2771d ago

Watch Dogs is the end, but they sought more money and took the idea for the ending of AC and made a completely different game out of it.

Think about it, Watch Dogs is basically modern day AC without climbing.

_-EDMIX-_2771d ago

I don't know if I could say all that I do believe that the series needs a bit of a reboot in order to jump-start enthusiasm about a new version because I believe they're making many versions concurrently and they're not having enough time to analyze previous versions to help fix the newer versions being created.

I don't know if something like Assassin's Creed could even have an end if you consider it doesn't really just have a singular story.

I mean you could have Assassin's Creed feudal Japan, Assassin's Creed Industrial Revolution, Assassin's Creed Ottoman Empire, Assassin's Creed Aztec or Mayan.

You could even have an Assassin's Creed with the Vikings or something in Scandinavia you have to realize the world is extremely diverse and being able to have a game set in a realistic time period With a fictional story is something that literally could go on forever.

Like I said because it's not really a singular story I'm not sure it would matter if the series continued in different areas and time periods. ie Assassin's Creed medieval plague lol

But I do believe that the series needs a bit of overhaul and a little time in between some of the developments to allow for new features to be implemented. By the time in Assassin's Creed is finished and released and in consumers hands another version had already been in development for at least 2 to 3 years which doesn't even give them enough time to change really anything based on user feedback of the current game.

NecoTehSergal2772d ago

I stopped caring for the series after AC2 ended and my attachment to Ezio had ended. I can't really imagine anyone else falling for 'another' assassin after what they had done with Ezio, albeit, I'm an Altair > Ezio kinda guy, AC1 had such a unique take and was a mystery and when I beat the game I had to go into a brainstorming mind-gasm of what the secret ending meant and had predicted the bleeding effect long before it was discussed - I was incredibly happy and pleased as a fan of the series.

But now....it's just CODified and they milked it, I had 100%'d the games up until they kept adding Multiplayer elements and Multiplayer trophies and all that crap. Now I have absolutely no care for the series, they lost me. I was one of the original people who helped make the first game viral by the Secret-Service websites they launched to spread the word for prizes. Most users in the sites got the game for free and cool swag like AC sweaters, t-shirts, games, and the top prizes like Sony VAIO laptops, surround sound speakers. We were merely a few thousand doing it but it was fun, good times. 1191AD and Live by the Creed, representing - but long gone.

Haru2772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

Exactly! AC1 was so special and AC2 was even better and the story plot was so good too, such a pitty to see such a great serie turning into a clusterf**k mess.. :/

NecoTehSergal2772d ago

AC1 was of course, the most archaic, the most brown, the most repetitive - am sure 'Disagrees' on my post are from those types of people.

AC1 had the best story and character development. The game was harder to really get into but the ending made it all worth it, the story of an arrogant character, who we begun playing as a flawed asshole who matured alongside with us to become the noble character he was. Ezio was a more fleshed out character and given to us literally from birth to give us a faster, easier bond, though to me it was a bit forced - but, not like it's something I can negatively critique objectively. Altair's growth was more interesting to me, the games also were more capable of easing people in and giving us more to do.

I'd have enjoyed a continuation of Altair, or a prequel that isn't a side-story or portable-game.

SonyStyled2772d ago

I have only played AC1 and 2, with the exception of Black Flag last year. Although BF is not a 'Creed' game, you are skipping out on a fantastic experience. I love tropical ecology and just couldn't get enough of it

NecoTehSergal2772d ago

I actually had played Black Flag too. The ship combat was definitely the best part, I destroyed all the major ships, was one of the titles I got on PS4 at launch. Sea shanties were the best, I just couldn't care about the 'lineage' of the characters, and how they craptastically handled the ending, and Blackbeard. I envisioned an angry scenario of him being captured and Blackbeard hung as we try to rescue him or the like. Instead it simply was - he died, 5 seconds of sadness from the main character and we sorta stop talking about him. I expected more from someone as notorious and huge as Blackbeard, they fucked up that character big time.

The third item are not free at least to international buyer like me.
I got small discount applied to each eligible item instead, what a clickbait.
Amazon claimed buy 3 for the price of 2 is pretty misleading as well I mean for the price of 2 to what, a children's book worth of discount?
