Top 10 Most Disappointing Games of 2015

CraveOnline: "In among all of the wonderful games we've had the chance to play over the past year, there have been some that have failed to live up to our expectations. While the following games may not have necessarily been bad games, they were not as good as they could have been and each left us feeling a little dejected after playing them."

So much hate for Mad Max. I actually enjoyed it.

Helden3074d ago

Just because you enjoyed it doesn't mean it's a great game.

Spoonsx3074d ago

Just because you didn't (obviously) doesn't mean that it wasn't a good game smart as$.

zidane13413074d ago

Ooh everybody watch out for the witty badass overhere. Where would we be without you captain obvious?

VforVideogames3073d ago (Edited 3073d ago )

They forgot to mention Halo MasterChief Collection everything was broken when it came out and still is to this date.

antz11043073d ago

Lol except it was a great game.

Odoylerules0003073d ago

Did Spoonsx even say it was a great game? I recall just reading, "I actually enjoyed it." You should probably let big bro have the keyboard back, your Asperger's is showing.

Maxor3073d ago

Mad Max was a great game. I rarely finish games but I couldn't get enough of Mad Max.

rocketpanda3073d ago

Where did he say it is a great game? An enjoyable game doesn't have to be "great". I guess you are one of those types that anything lower than a 8 is terrible.

OpieWinston3074d ago (Edited 3074d ago )

It did an amazing job at paying homage to the world Miller created and was extremely fun.

Mad Max is another example of why I take all reviewers with a grain of salt. A bunch of people who nitpick and probably hadn't even seen the Mad Max films.

This guy clearly doesn't like a focus on vehicles. That's why Arkham Knight and Mad Max are on his list.

NovusTerminus3074d ago

Just because he was disappointed doesn't mean he didn't like it.

CKPan3073d ago

I really like 1886, but man, it was a disappointment.

Bahamut3074d ago

Most of the games on this list still have good (or great) reviews, so I don't know what the hell this guy's smokin.

parentsbasement3074d ago

I liked it , I didnt finish it and sent it back to gamefly but plan on a re-rent when things slow down..

TheMadDutchman3074d ago

it is in my top ten games of the year for me

u4one3074d ago

lol at your response. awesome. :) +1

Adexus3074d ago

Mad Max is actually one of my favourite games of the year lol along with The Order, Dying Light, Witcher and Fallout.

showtimefolks3074d ago (Edited 3074d ago )

Spoonsx

i think it is a good game. what i don't like is how both the publishers and the developer have kind of released the game next to a major release, and left it out in the market high and dry

i don't even think i saw one advertisement for it. they could have packaged it with the movie but they didn't

i am mad or disappointed at avalanche because they haven't communicated well with the community to keep us in the loop of upcoming patches

the game needs to be fixed, right now the biggest issue since last patch is that our mini map is gone.

personally

its MGS5 and it's not even close. Kojima was given over 80 million(yeah screw konami)kojima was given over 5 years of development(yeah screw konami again)

and this is what he develops? i was a huge kojima fan but now i am glad someone new will take over the MGS series.

your main character doesn't talk a lot
the awkward jeep ride with epic music
epic music wasted
the trailers made it seem like
you do main missions
than those main missions become side missions
no character development
worst boss battles in history
scarface was a let down as a character
where was zero
everyone kept talking about zero
why not introduce him?

IIFloodyII3073d ago

Zero was in a coma, after Skull Face poisoned him. The game tells you, in cassette tapes. :(

showtimefolks3073d ago

IIFloodyII

so couldn't they show him in coma?

_-EDMIX-_3073d ago

"where was zero
everyone kept talking about zero"

Soooo you didn't actually listen to all the cassettes in the game huh? That is like skipping the codecs in other MGS games then stating the story was bad.

Zero dies by Big Boss in MGS4 SPOILER! lolz.

In Solidus's body, Big Boss kills Zero.

Miller is the trader too SPOILER not really...

its like...if you know MGS lore, you also know some of the end results to the characters of the game. I personally loved the story, but then again I also listened to all the cassette tapes too.

IIFloodyII3073d ago

I wouldn't be shocked if they did plan to at one point (or at least some of his tapes), but just ran out of time and had to cut them. I would recommend listening to Zero's tapes, they are some of the best, and most story important ones in the game, and do a good job at setting up why Zero makes the Patriot A.I.

showtimefolks3073d ago

that in my opinion is the biggest fault of the game. yeah it's a great idea to hide the story behind cassettes so gamers who aren't ultra careful may miss major parts of the story

i am not trying to sound like my opinion is a fact or the game sucks for everyone. if you liked the game more power to you, as a long time MGS fan the way i look at it is simple. Kojima wanted to chase newer fans and he did. while failing those who have supported him and his games for over 2 decades

one of the best parts of playing mgs was the long/detailed cut scenes now because MGS haters kept complain, KOjima removed them to make the non mgs fanbase happy

personally can't wait for konami to start production on a new MGS game. i believe MGS series just needs a fresh start by another game director

I really enjoyed Mad Max as well, although admit it was flawed. Coincidentally I recently submitted a review for Mad Max expressing these points: http://n4g.com/news/1827387...

Scatpants3073d ago

I'm playing right now and it's great. Not disappointed at all. Battlefront gets my vote for most disappointing game of the year.

pecorre3074d ago

No metal gear solid 5. It's the most dissapointing game I've ever played. I'm a huge fan of the series but I did not even finish 5 and I sold it.

Bahamut3074d ago

I didn't finish it either, mainly because I found it to be extremely addictive and fun, but then I read online the ending was terrible... so I just slowed down a bit, and started playing something else. I'll wait until the inevitable DLC that fixes its shortcomings.

kraenk123074d ago

People complaining about game endings on the internet are the worst and disrespectful to the artistic creation.

RobinGaming3074d ago

So because people on the internet say the ending is bad, you don't play the ending? Without even knowing what it is? lol...

I actually totally agree that the game has its shortcomings, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the ending as well. People just complain about everything these days.

NovaCorps3074d ago

as a hardcore MGS fan i can say that mgs5 is one of the worse mgs games ever...if you remove the controls which true its the best of all the series the rest is pure crap

zero character development
crappy music compared to the others
snake doesnt talk
repetitive missions 90% of the time
no cutscenes
zero story
a big screw you thx for you money once you complete the game
no boss battles
mgo 3 dead already,mgo2 was the best

no wonder kojima left, they did him a favor for removing his name from anything mgs5 related.

C4rnos3074d ago

Completely agree with this assessment- So disappointing to see such an incredibly unique series of games rounded off with generic crap (in comparison).

It's not an awful game, but in the same way most games are marketed to *everyone* these days (*cough* Fallout 4 *cough*) the personality and soul of many games are dying out and it's a sad sight to see.

Kalebninja3074d ago

no boss battles? you clearly didnt even play the game because there were several. There was plenty of development for Venom and Quiet. The game was full of story both through normal playthrough and tapes. The game was good and got 10s across the board for a reason .

Yobo53074d ago

Boss battles where there, but just not as epic as say MGS4. The only battle I felt that tension in was with sahalentrapus.

Story and custscenes were reduced to cassette tapes, since people were complaining about how long they were in other games. IDK, how to feel about it I mean the few cutscene that were there worked. However, I felt that maybe if the cutscenes took more from cassette's it would make the story look "fuller" if you didn't want to thumb through each tape.

Only three things bugged me

1) the missions like you said felt repetitive most of the game and were exact repeats near the end.

2) Boss battles had good mystery in the beginning, but felt empty for some reason, they lacked the fun-factor of fighting bosses like the beauty and the beast unit in MGS4. I guess the fact that it's not linear game hindered that. In retrospect, I wouldn't mind going back to linear.

3) Missing segments of game, especially the alternate ending that was supposed to be the "real ending" being reduced to concept art. A weird way to make a finale, and felt like sequel baiting.

Knushwood Butt3074d ago

Stopped playing it too.

This coming from someone that got the Platinum for Peace Walker.

zidane13413074d ago

Yeah except for the fact that the gameplay itself is smoother and more fun then never. LOL @ no cutscenes. This game tied in with the others really well, and there were plenty of cutscenes. Hell half of the second act is cut scenes. Wtf are you talking about?? And the reason snake doesn't talk much Anja's been pointed out a thousand times. It has to do with the plot twist in the end, if snake talked more and rambled on it wouldn't be the player, it would be snake.

generic-user-name3073d ago

I'm also a huge fan of MGS (got the limited edition MGSV PS4 and a collectors edition, favourite series hands down).

I will say that the gameplay does not disappoint one bit, there are so many cool systems and tools in place that it truly is the best stealth game I have ever played.

But for an MGS fan the story is half the package, I mean I LOVED 1.30hr cutscenes in MGS4, MGS cutscenes are always done so well. They are done even better in MGSV in the technical sense but they are just so few and there just isn't a good story to back them up.

It's not just the ending either that I had a problem with (though yes, I didn't like it and yes I do understand what Kojima was trying to say with it but it just failed), most of the story is just so unsatisfying. Most of the vital stuff is told in cassette tapes which is ok sometimes but some of those cassettes that you unlock at the very end I think really ought to have been in-game cutscenes instead, would have been a much better ending than being forced to replay the tutorial again, beat for beat. Also leaving the Eli story so blatantly unfinished as they did was pretty unacceptable.

Then you have the characters

Venom is mute and dull.

Ocelot becomes mister wise and serious all of a sudden, may as well have been a new character.

Skull Face is easily the worst/most ridiculous villain in MGS history, would have taken the senator from Rising over him. (shame because Ground Zeroes really built some solid foundations for him)

Miller I found to be one of the few enjoyable characters, his character developed (although I feel his story was left unfinished much like other areas of the game, white eyes for example are never explained).

Quiet, she had a good arc, liked her.

Man on Fire, I liked the idea but they barely touched on it, plus it wouldn't have hurt to give him some lines.

Eli is basically what you would have expected a young Liquid to be like, we don't see why he's like that though, we just have to guess. In MGS1 he tells us how Big Boss always told him he was inferior to Solid and all that, would have been nice to actually see that instead of it being retconned out. 'Big Boss' was constantly being decent to him all the time though. In short, zero character development.

Huey, while being a 180 on his character in PW, I enjoyed what they did with him.

Same goes for that person in the Medic platform, once that was done with it was rather clever in terms of the final twist and all. Too bad there wasn't more of this.

Then you have Mantis who is somehow 1000 times more powerful than he will be in MGS1 and also 1000 times less chatty. Like Ocelot, may as well have been a new character.

nix3073d ago

I stopped playing at the hospital.. I just can't get into the game. I bought it only because i wanted to support his last MGS game.

-Foxtrot3074d ago

Yeah I know.

Biggest disappointment of the year. Even if you didn't have the kafuffle that went on behind closed doors the fact it is a boring open world game, lifeless, repetitive and no fun factor outside main missions.

But because it's Kojima and MGS...10/10...perfect <sigh>

zidane13413074d ago

Ahuh except for the fact that there's plenty of stuff to do in free roam. The only repetitive thong were the side missions. But yeah, it's so boring it got perfect scores from ten's and ten's of reviews, k.

Scatpants3073d ago (Edited 3073d ago )

Battlefront easily beats it for me as far as disappointments go. Although I did find Metal Gear to be pretty boring and repetitive I don't care how many 10s it got.

NotanotherReboot3074d ago

TFW you realize PS4 has only had 3 good exclusives :(

Bahamut3074d ago

The Last of Us: Remastered, God of War III, Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection, Bloodborne, Infamous: Second Son, Until Dawn, and a few fantastic indie titles.

On top of that, Street Fight V, Uncharted 4, and The Last Guardian are on the way. Not to mention the Final Fantasy VII remake.

So... that's 3 right?

Oh and not to mention, everything looks and runs better on the PS4 due to its superior hardware, so multiplats are best played on the ps4 or PC. If you own a Wii U, a PC, and a PS4, there's almost no reason to purchase an Xbox One (unless you reeeaally like bro-shooters).

Helden3074d ago

Remastered, remastered everywhere

frankdrebin723074d ago

Didn't Sony say the PS4 is THE place to play shooters?
Put a stop to that lil dig you had there!

Captain_Mushroom3074d ago

Remaster, remaster, remaster, true, true, true, unless you specifically say their names, every last console is eligible for "fantastic" indie titles.

And are you so desperate as to include future titles? All three might be masterpieces, but we're talking NOW.

And I like the fact that you are so subtle as to include the PC and Wii U as well. Next thing, you'll also add the Wii, JUST so you can further marginalize the XB1.

And "bro-shooters"? LMAO, aren't we talking about the console that has bought CoD privileges to DLC's and such? CoD being THE most "bro-shooter" of them all.

PS fanboys... try harder, next time. Oh, wait; you already did. Sad face...

Scatpants3073d ago

Disgaea 5 And Persona 5 soon. The only exclusives I like on X1 are sunset Overdrive and Tomb Raider.

Ark_3073d ago

If you own a capable PC, it's actually hard to justify to buy either a PS4 or X1. Not enough great exlusives imo. As it stands, I am happy with my WiiU as an addition.

I admit I would like to play: Bloodborne, Uncharted and Halo though. But that's not woth purchasing a console yet for.

Oh and look: Steam-Sale is on - let the pile of shame grow further ...

NotanotherReboot3072d ago

Once you begin mentioning remasters, your argument withers away.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 3072d ago
medman3074d ago

You have to laugh at this type, don't you? The ps4 has more exclusives, the higher rated exclusives, and more exclusives in development. PS4 also has the better performing multiplat games, and the better selection of indie titles. Game over.

ironcrow23863074d ago

Fair enough arkham knight had its problems but disappointing?? No freaking way

Spoonsx3074d ago

I had Arkham Knight on PC and I enjoyed it outside of bat mobile combat. Even though I didn't car for the bat mobile combat it didn't ruin it for me.

i got lucky I guess I was one of the few that didn't have issues with PC version.

WellyUK3074d ago

It was a borefest for me sadly still haven't finished it. Was very disappointing for me.

-Foxtrot3074d ago

It wasn't the open world Batman game that Gotham deserved.

The point where I cracked while trying to defend it

<spoilers>

A boss battle...with Slade....IN A TANK

ironcrow23863074d ago

so with games such as battlefield hardline, the order, tony hawk; batman is more disappointing than all those?? if so I think you've been a playing a different game my old matie

-Foxtrot3074d ago

Compared to Akrham City which was amazing yeah it is.

Quality of the title against the games you've mentioned is a totally different discussion

_-EDMIX-_3073d ago

Fox be like top disappointing games 2015

Resident Evil: Revelations 2
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD
Battlefield Hardline
Bloodborne
Mario Party 10
Life Is Strange
Mortal Kombat X
Titan Soul
Fallout 4
Call Of Duty blops 3
Halo 5
Tomb Raider
The Order
SOMA
Project Cars
Forza 6
Batman Arkham Knight
Planetside 2
Metal Gear Solid 5
Mario Maker
Mad Max
Uncharted Collection
Wasteland 2
StarCraft 2 Legacy Of The Void
Assassins Creed Syndicate

Turns out he LOVED Star Wars Battlefront and Hitman mobile..lol

In all seriousness, I feel its sad to even see many gamers feel this way about many of those games, I think many are exaggerating pretty deeply. Even the titles many are saying are not that great, don't even have anything NEAR them to really say is that much better. I just look at it like, maybe the title just wasn't for you.

I generally liked everything I played this year and knew what I was getting into with most of my purchases, I don't even know if I can say I got a game that was "disappointing" as this year was pretty stacked with heavy hitters, regardless what nit pickers might try to claim. We got some BEAST titles and lots of them are over flowing into 2016 for me lolz. We are in a medium that has an extreme amount of transparency, that tells you months even years ahead of time what the game is, how much content most times and even getting to play it some times prior to release.

I can't speak on something like Tony Hawk as what I've seen, didn't look fun and they've shown and stated enough for me to stay away. In this day and age, I feel we should be able to as consumers have some sort of heads up on what we are buying.

RedDevils3073d ago

@_-EDMIX-_ so can you tell me why UC collection is disappointing? I want to know because I haven't buy it yet, but are thinking of buying it soon

_-EDMIX-_3073d ago

@Red- I'm actually just joking, I state that I didn't have any disappointing games this year.

Uncharted collection is a solid buy if you haven't played the series, even if you have its still a nice buy if you want to revisit them before Uncharted 4.

From what I've played from the demo, its runs amazing at 60fps and looks amazing too. Easily a solid buy.

RedDevils3073d ago (Edited 3073d ago )

Thanks, was a bit skeptical there :P

Neixus3074d ago

Battlefront's flaws / design choices were known months before release, don't see how it fits in this list.

Skankinruby3074d ago

It's 20 dollars of content with a 60 dollar price tag

Neixus3074d ago

We knew about the content beforehand.

Dice made a website where you could inspect every weapon, hero, powerup, star card and maps.

I see why people can be dissapointed, but its your fault for not looking the game up before purchasing it.

Scatpants3073d ago

because it gets boring in 2 hours and is an ultra dumbed down shooter.

_-EDMIX-_3073d ago

Agreed. Its what I've been saying for a very, very long time. Yes...the game has what many might call "low" content in comparison to other titles.

The team has been very transparent to what the game is and isn't, has stated what its single player is and isn't, has let people play the game before release twice openly, listed all features, maps, weapons etc.

At some point....we need to really, really factor consumer responsibility. That goes for really any game. We are in a medium that is letting you try the game, listing all its features, modes, maps, weapons etc. Telling you what it is and what it isn't.

MOST mediums are not giving such transparency. Its hard to base a disappointment on Battlefront based on previous games when before release it was stated many, many, many times what it was and what it wasn't.

To buy it and to be "disappointed" at the end of the day legit has to be based on the consumer. Pretty sure anyone who wanted to play it, was free to try it out when the beta released, even if someone didn't, the internet very much exist to tell them what it is and isn't.

I can't say I'm "disappointed" in it as I played the beta, liked what I played and wanted more of what I played, even if it was just with a few maps. I didn't go into it expecting something like counter strike, I bought it for what it was offering, not what I wanted it to offer or what I "thought" or "assumed" etc. I get some games just turn out bad even with all the information released, it happens, but some games that are based on feel and gameplay, no real excuse. You sorta can play and get what the game is and if it will be something you can see yourself playing more of.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.
