Shenmue 3 to compromise on Visual Quality for the sake of the Story

"Many of us fans have doubtless imagined a highly detailed Ryo in a beautifully realised open world rendition of Hong Kong. However, judging by the comments from legendary game designer Yu Suzuki, you might want to scale back those expectations for Shenmue 3. "

it’s kinda sad because back than Shenmue was best open world game in the visuals *and everything*

i hope it turns out good

Dark_Vendetta3127d ago (Edited 3127d ago )

which was one of the reasons Sega went almost extinct. The project was way too expensive.

XanderZane3127d ago

True and I actually can't see it looking worse they how it looked on the Dreamcast or XBox. That would be sad if it did. Seems to me like they may run out of money before the game is done. Suzuki and the devs seem to be asking for more money a little to often.

DigitalRaptor3127d ago

Hang on Septic. Really?

This headline makes it seem like fact rather than something that is a potential compromise for a game that has not entered heavy-production yet. A simple adjustment to the headline would paint what Suzuki said rather than your strange version. It sounds like you jumped on the Eurogamer article and adjusted it to make an article that would gather controversy.

Regardless, let's think about what kind of announcement Shenmue III was and what kind of production it is. It's a long-dormant, heavily requested sequel. Long-time Shenmue freaks would be satisfied with Dreamcast-era graphics, and Unreal Engine 4 will help the team produce visuals 2 generations ahead of that. We are simply glad it's coming out and only the anti-fans will care about whether it LOOKS next-gen or not to simply stir the pot or try and prove something.

You ask a question about Sony's involvement when in fact, Cedric and Suzuki have already clarified that they want complete creative control and independence as a studio.

And jesus........ Shenmue III is not based in an open-world Hong Kong. It's based in a smaller-scale series of Chinese villages in Guilin, China. The story was always going towards this direction since it was originally penned. It appears about the same scale as Dobuita/Yokozuka of the first game, which should be good for series fans. Sleeping Dogs, this game is not.

And Suzuki has been clear about expectations for the sequel. $2 million for a story-based game with no bells or whistles. $5 million for a good game that satisfies the Shenmue identity and continues the story. $10 million for his dream Shenmue game which brand new features and themes he wants to explore.

Spotie3127d ago

He doesn't care. Nevermind that the sacrifice is an "if necessary" sort of thing. All that matters to him is that his agenda against this game is pushed.

I wonder if anything will be done about this obvious misinterpretation and misinformation, especially after the 10 million "sales" article of just the other day.

johndoe112113127d ago

This is the epitome of a troll article. How the hell this was approved the way it was is beyond me. This is a hit piece with distorted facts at best. I usually don't agree with septic's views but i respect his right to have them, but this, this is way beyond low even for him.

_-EDMIX-_3127d ago

...the man has like 80 people who ignore him. This is beyond reaching and makes very little sense.

MysticStrummer3127d ago

It's good to see so many people are on to Septic's game.

OT - I read the opinion piece and I'm still not sure what this person's opinion is, but my reaction to the headline is "…and…?"

Outside_ofthe_Box3127d ago

***"It's good to see so many people are on to Septic's game."***

Eh?

Didn't you know? He's the epitome of an unbiased gamer. Everyone on N4G should strive to be like him.

Yall need to stop this hater attitude./s

Gazondaily3126d ago

Ah the good ol haters pile up. The people who are 'on to my game' aren't exactly the most objective of people so excuse me for not taking yours or their ill informed comments seriously.

MysticStrummer3126d ago

"The people who are 'on to my game' aren't exactly the most objective of people"

Irony, thy name is Septic.

DigitalRaptor3123d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

I don't think Septic is "bias" per se, but he certainly like to emit certain details when it suits whatever agenda him or his website is pushing. Whether it's the famous "Sony fanboys are the worst", or "There must be something dodgy about Shenmue III's development, cause some reactionary people are saying so". That is just disingenuous.

Although, I'm curious to know why you'd rather defend your "game" rather than actually respond to all the valid points I made about your terribly researched and flame-bait/troll hit piece. Whatever tragic misinformation goes around about Shenmue these days, it's due to people like you. People who post articles, with no care for the consequences of their substance-free, research-free hit pieces, and don't bother to address or update their article, when informed by people who know what they're talking about.

I'm not even interested in this game anymore. I actually never cared for it .

SegaGamer3127d ago

You contradictied yourself. You say you are not even interested in the game ANYMORE and then go on to say you NEVER cared about it. Make up your mind.

Never say never, I really didn't expect to ever see Space Marine 2 and 12 years later its almost here.
So there is still hope for all these games.

Chocoburger75d ago

I've completed 5 of the games on the list, but the author forgot to include Advent Rising. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but it bombed hard, and the two sequels never got made. It was Mass Effect, a console generation before Mass Effect.

The game is buggy and unpolished, it needed a few more months of development, but the potential was there. At the end of the game, you have all these super abilities, I remember the stomp attack that created a shockwave being especially powerful.

shinoff218375d ago

I personally think days gone will recieve some sort of sequel at some point. I'm personally also hoping it's not the rumored multiplayer online stuff. I'd think most that enjoyed it would rather thisnto.

Knightofelemia75d ago

Sony needs to dust off Sly Cooper and Days Gone so needs a sequel two of my favorite Sony titles. Bulletstorm I love great game wish it also got a sequel. And I wish Namco would finally give Enslaved a sequel another great game.

Dragon's Dogma and XCOM 2 are the best deals. The rest of the games are still overpriced. I would say 8.99 is good for AC: Origins, but you need to put $10 more into MTs to avoid the grind that slows down the story. So, the game is actually 18.99.

It's not on this list, but Pathfinder: Kingmaker is only $9.99. This is a deal if you have a current gen. consoles, as it runs poorly on prev. gen.

hangdang687d ago

I beat AC origins without grinding or spending any money on MTX?

anast687d ago

I had to grind for side missions. So, did many other people.

Has anyone been able to login in to the ps store on ps5 I haven't been able to in days and my network is good.

RedDevils687d ago

Reset or shutdown your PS5. I always can go login to PS5, in fact just a moment ago.

HeliosHex687d ago

Hey thanks again. Although the shutdown/reset didn't work i found that resetting the mdm and hub did the trick. I use a Lan network instead of wifi. In case anyone has a similar setup and problem.

RedDevils686d ago

I forgot to mention about the router reset, that usually do the trick when it come to network problems happen with iphone/android. btw np
