MightyNoX3220d ago (Edited 3220d ago )

ALL POST-LAUNCH CHARACTERS ARE EARNABLE FOR FREE

This is a real great way to keep the community engaged and it's unlike Capcom's usual awful practices.

Ever since the partnership with Sony, Capcom's pulling their act together.

Abash3220d ago

I approve Capcom. This should keep the mainstream gamers playing Street Fighter V for years to come if they continue the new fighter additions all the duration of this gen

Omegasyde3219d ago

I dont know about that....

I think i will wait for turbo tournament street fighter 5 ultra editon (which will release 2 years from now with all dlc but still require you to buy shaders....)

LeCreuset3219d ago

Talk about burying the lede.

Blurmobjet3219d ago (Edited 3219d ago )

I'm REALLY hating this age of DLC and I REALLY, REALLY want to go back to the days of complete game releases!

Love Street Fighter and Capcom both, but if companies are going to sell us the rest of the game later on down the road then maybe I don't want to pay $60 for their incomplete game.

It'd be okay if they gave us the rest of the characters for free since we already paid for a finished game, but I know that's not how this system works anymore.

I know I'm going to get like 99% disagrees for saying that but its how I feel and I had to put that out there.

Eonjay3219d ago

@Omegasyde

They also stated that there will only be one version. All post release content will be avalible for on the original version. And since all characters will be unlockable for free. People who start playing day one will have access to all the content there after.

DemonChicken3219d ago

I be honest before I clicked in the article I was expecting some dlc BS and/or "insert you edition" multiple versions of the game - glad I was proven wrong!

Gardenia3219d ago

@Blurmobjet

You did not read the article did you?

Skate-AK3219d ago

At the bottom of the article it says the silhouettes are generic and not repetitive of any SF5 characters.

eddieistheillest3219d ago

Woah woah woah. Where the F word is Sagat !!! I guess I'll just have to wait for the FREE update later on. It may be babu steps but Capcom is slowly moving in the right direction.

OzzY-waZZy3219d ago

One of the silhouettes looks a lot like Fei Long. I wouldn't look into the silhouettes too much.

lvl_headed_gmr3219d ago

This is good that Sony is investing in this game.

This is Sony's answer to MS's Killer Instinct since Sony doesn't have their own fighter on the PS4 yet so this is a great investment.

MS investing in Tomb Raider to be their answer to Uncharted 4 since MS don't have their own adventure title.

So just like how SFV will be exclusive to Sony, Rise Of The Tomb Raider will be exclusive to MS.

The universe once again balances itself out. 😊

Spotie3219d ago

Boy, stop.

Guilty Gear is already on PS4, so there's an exclusive fighter XB1 doesn't have.

Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive and that's it. That's a lackluster "answer" to Uncharted.

In the end, nothing is balanced. Not like you say it is, anyway.

lvl_headed_gmr3218d ago

@Spotie

LoL don't be silly.

About30Ninjas3219d ago

I'm pretty sure Sagat will make the roster

Sweet cant wait for the beta in 2 days.

jannytime3219d ago

They will start sending beta codes on Monday :)

Back-to-Back3219d ago

Thank you for the reminder. I just preordered on Amazon. Hopefully they will still have codes left.

ZaWarudo3220d ago (Edited 3220d ago )

"the initial Street Fighter 5 disc will be the only one you'll ever need to own"

Fantastic news!

"Moving forward, all balance and system adjustments will be made available for free to players. All post launch gameplay related content can now be earned by playing the game,"

Also great news, but...

"there will be in-game currency that will be separated into two different types: Fight Money and Zenny."

"Fight Money can only be obtained by playing the game, and that's what you use to earn the gameplay related content,"

"If you're looking to speed up the process, however, you can access content immediately by purchasing Zenny with real money and using it to buy characters, and other content up front."

UGH, I just hope Capcom makes it a very reasonable system and doesn't force players to grind for hours just to get one character.

Omegasyde3219d ago

sounds like a free to play mechanic in a paid game. That seems dodgy.

ZaWarudo3219d ago

That's what i'm afraid of...
I'm okay with it as long as it's just cosmetics stuff, full characters though? Yeah, no.

We'll have to wait and see how things pan out, but as of right now, i'm being very skeptical.

Baka-akaB3219d ago (Edited 3219d ago )

The way i see it , it's basically keeping the dlc character form , wich is established anyway and not going away , except it gives you a free via grinding alternative at least .

So i'm not sure it change things for the worst here , we're gaining an alternative to simply paying for a dlc character or boycotting it

HeavenlySnipes3219d ago

Its like that in the NBA 2k games with the MyTeam stuff and the purchasable players. You can spend real money, or grind the mode and earn them.

Granted, I think that in SFV it will be more structured in that you can just buy what you want with the fight money. Even if its a grind, dedicated players won't have a problem I think. Game is going to be huge

Sevir3219d ago

It isn't necessarily free to play, as there will only be one disc which you buy, what this is is microtransactions. With the Denny purchase. Street Fighter 5 isn't free to play, this is simply trying to keep the SF experience whole for the fans, and reward the players to keep playing, if you're an avid SF player, you'll play for over x amount of hours when a content pack drops spend you're earned fight money and upgrade, for everyone who's casual, earn some then purchase the remaining and unlock... Which is better than having to fragment the player base for characters and features some may not want.

This likely came up as something Sony pushed for so Capcom wouldn't release a Super/Ultra SF5 down the road on other platforms. One version, update over the net and tweak minor things on the fly via the cloud and deploy content packs on the SF5 server. If you've been a loyal player you'll have the hours to show you have sufficient Fight Money, you'll upgrade for free. And it gives you the chance to upgrade to the things you want, unlock the characters you want get the balance tweeks that make sense. No buying a massive update which nerds your favorite character

Blacklash933219d ago (Edited 3219d ago )

Fighters are meant to played over and over, so even if the pricing for the in-game currency is steep and requires "grinding" it shouldn't be too bad for hardcore players.

Assuming that you can earn the currency by playing normal matches, that is.

Vandamme213220d ago

I hope the final boss will be a brand new character...I don't wanna see no bison, gill, Seth or akuma as the main boss

Tony-Red-Grave3220d ago

You don't want a tall, naked, two-toned blonde man casting armageddon on you?

Akuma2K3219d ago

I don't think any of those characters will be a main boss (pretty certain Akuma will make the roster, not sure about seth or gill) most likely will be a brand new boss character in the generation of SF5.....imo.

Fireseed3219d ago

Unfortunately the down side to the F2P transition for fighters which albeit is inherently good, most of the time that also means all content produced for the game needs to be playable at some point.

About30Ninjas3219d ago

I'm hoping they do like SF Alpha and give every character they own last boss

Why market something that isn't designed to be sold?

This has GP rental written all over it.

Tacoboto1h ago

They just posted a 20+ minute video about Psychosis and how the game portrays that through Senua.

Regardless of what Microsoft is doing (retweeting Ninja Theory is about as low effort as it gets, and Dashboard Dynamic Themes should've come months ago), Ninja Theory themselves are at least trying.

It's sad though. That new video was a really good behind-the-scenes too, and it just came at such a bad time.

Tankbusta4059m ago

How much marketing do games really need these days? People that play games know when its coming out. I really think the days of the constant tv ad etc are going the way of the Dodo. What scares me more is the lack of "previews" on big video game websites, it only got a few on April 4th and then nothing since.

RNTody32m ago(Edited 32m ago)

Wow Tankbusta40 how out of touch with reality can you be, mate. Do you think companies are insane to spend millions on having giant billboards for big releases and TV adverts and superbowl slots and round the clock PR and interviews? Most of the people who buy games aren't on gaming forums like these knowing the exact release dates!

This isn't being marketed because Microsoft isn't selling the product, it's a Game Pass day one and they don't throw their weight behind games like this.

Hugodastrevas18m ago

Wait, this game's actually still being made?

If sony want their games to be more successful on pc and to sell more they need to bring the games day-one like helldivers 2! , and not after 2 years.

-Foxtrot5h ago

If it's first party (can't speak on Helldivers) then the PS5 should be focused on first in my opinion rather than worrying about 2 versions.

PrinceOfAnger4h ago

Nixxes can help with the development and release the games at the same time..

Tacoboto1h ago

Nixxes takes completed code and ports that to PC. I'm sure they do work during primary development but I like this setup.

PS5 owners are treated as first class by their platform holder, PC players get the final complete version, and GaaS are treated separately. Win-win.

XiNatsuDragnel4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

First party ps5 games need to be ps5 only until 6 months imo because they need to sell consoles still and then focus on PC later.

shinoff21834h ago

I don't see a big deal. The sales also help future development. I'm all in.

thesoftware7302h ago

This makes sense, just now doing it shows how behind and short-sighted regarding PC they were to begin with.

shaenoide1h ago

If they release it day one many will not buy a playstation anymore (me included).

Jingsing49m ago

I'm already not buying a PS5 Pro or PS6 and it isn't day one, They are already damaging themselves.
