Will Xbox One Beat PlayStation 4 This Holiday Season?

The Xbox One certainly did not get things off on the right foot this generation with a debacle of a reveal and follow-up that turned many gamers off of the Xbox brand completely. Microsoft was able to make a 180 and did away with what everyone hated and managed to win many gamers back luckily. This partially led the system to lag behind the PlayStation 4 in sales almost every month and by a far margin overall, but Microsoft was able to pull out a surprising win in April in the recent NPD announcement. With an already strong holiday lineup even before the upcoming E3 announcements, is Microsoft setting themselves up to take down the goliath that is PlayStation 4 this coming holiday season?

Also, of course having games through out the year matters but just because PS4 may have had 2 big releases Q1 (Bloodborne and The Order) doesn't mean that Xbox One is now doomed. An exclusive Xbox One gamer won't really care that much. This generation is still in it's infancy so we will see many great games on all fronts in the next few years.

as for the subject at hand, yes the xbox one can beat the ps4 this holiday season but it is unlikely, especially outside of the us region and the uk. they would have to pretty much drop the price to $249 to outsell it in strong playstation areas and drop it to $99 to outsell the ps4 in japan.

what i don't want to see is sony get too complacent by delaying key titles just because they can and not drop the price of the ps4 just because it's selling. they need to continue rewarding the consumer because they want to, not because they have to. on the flipside microsoft has become a desperate microsoft and are willing to take far more aggressive measures than sony ought to.

Sales is what keep game console's relevant and gives developers opportunities to make great games. Install base is very important in this era of gaming. No fanboy here but Microsoft and especially Sony will get more opportunities from indie developers and other second and third part developers in the future just because its selling so well.

As far as games offered? Yes, I can't wait to play Halo 5 and ROTR! Just doesn't seem like the PS4 has any major AAA games for the fall right now. Maybe e3 will change that but I doubt it.

In sales? No, WW is what matters and I can't see X1 winning worldwide. The PS4 is just a beast and I don't see it slowing down. People should also remember it's the big third party games that sell consoles and Sony is doing a good job getting partnership deals with these big third part games this fall.

E3 is coming. What I love about Sony is that they're likely gonna announce 4-5 games that are already far ahead in development and will release between June and December 2015, while also announcing a few things they have in store for 2015.

Microsoft only plans for the next year's holiday and what they have announced currently is likely all you'll get this holiday season while what they announce at E3 is only gonna be 2016 stuff. Of course, some of their holiday lineup might be delayed as well. I expect a delay for Tomb raider as there has been almost no news since this has been announced.

Last Christmas the X1 had Halo and Forza as their big 2 exclusives. This year their big 2 exclusives are...Halo and Forza. I see a pattern here.

Also you need to update yourself. Last year MS had SO, Forza Horizon 2 and Halo MCC ( a remake of Halo1 - 4). This year they've got Halo 5, Forza6, Tombraider, Gigantic and mostly likely Gears of War 1 remake and a game from Rare. Tombraider has only been announced for xbox platforms so until it is announced/released on other platforms it remains an exclusive (timed or not), Halo5 isn't a remaster it's the next game in the franchise and Do you even know the difference between FH and FM?or did you just put that in there to score more trolling points? Saying Forza horizon is same as forza motorsport is like saying PGR is same as GT. Go read up stuff about FM and FM cos its obvious you haven't played either.

While we don't know exactly what the "window" of exclusivity is, I'd say the safe bet is somewhere between 6 months to a year. While it's a bummer that PS4 owners will have to wait, there will be PLENTY to play until then and I'm fine on waiting as I'm sure the PS4 version will be the best/most optimized.

I expect Xbox to be very competitive in the UK and USA this holiday season but it's too early to be predicting a holiday sales win over the PS4. For example, Sony may reveal some games at E3 for release during the holidays. Tomb Raider may get delayed (I checked and it does not have a firm release date.) Sony may lower the PS4's price. No Man's Sky will release and become a system seller etc. etc. Right now, if I had to make a prediction, I'd say Xbox wins but that's only if nothing changes between now and the Holidays.

It's quite possible, after E3, these articles won't really do well because Sony could have an announcement or two for this holiday. Personally I could see maybe one AAA for the holiday from Sony, and likely a remaster, but their big focus is going to be on Star Wars and the large number of 3rd party exclusives releasing over the 4-5 months prior to the holiday.

Well let's assume that things were flipped around. With the PS4 selling 10 million and the XB1 selling 23 million.

The XB1 would own the majority of the market and therefore developers would be more inclined to develop games for the XB1. Now while most 3rd parties will produce multiplats some of them can't afford to produce all versions at once. In that case they would aim with for the system with the largest marketshare which would be the XB1 in this case. Which means that those games will be temporary exclusives for the platform. With the majority in marketshare it would be even cheaper for Microsoft to secure exclusives. Which means that the chances of the XB1 having more 3rd party exclusives would be higher than the PS4s.

Now this is just what would happen if the XB1 owned the majority of the market but since its doesn't you can apply this theory to the current situation in the market. Except with the PS4 owning the majority of the market.

If your talking about this holiday if the XB1 beats the PS4 developers will still make games for the PS4. The only thing that could change the situation of 3rd party support on the system is if Sony discontinues the system. Which won't happen especially with the way the system is selling. Heck there's a higher chance that Micrpsoft will discontinue the XB1 than Sony discontinuing the PS4. But the chances of that happening is extremely slim.

Which is why MS abolsutely needs to re add its mark on windows 10 for all its xbox games. Xbox one is perfect for people that just want the simple steam machine. But they make the money off halo sales ect other games. So it would be smart to have its own pc platform and sell thes games on pc.

I hear they have big plans for this on pc. I have no clue if it will simply be games for sale in the windows store or have its own more of steam program. Like having a xbox menu brand on pc. They would gain so much more revenue.

Last year there was a similar article posted and I said I thought XB1 would beat the PS4 in 2014 holiday sales in the US and I got 0 agrees and 27 disagrees. But it was obviously to a non-blind fanboy XB1 would win the holidays with Halo, Forza, and Sunset. This holiday is no different unless PS4 has a trick up its sleeve (like an Uncharted collection coming this fall and a lot of hype for Morpheus with a big Morpheus game coming at launch) People here underestimate holiday sales. In 2014 XB1 sold well over half of its North American consoles in Nov and Dec alone. This will likely be the 3rd consecutive year XB1 wins the holidays. If Sony could of won the holidays PS4 would be dominating XB1 by probably more than 3 to 1 and it would be over.

Gears of War Remastered > Nothing

I think xone will catch up ps4 this holiday season in us & uk.Bcoz this time Sony will use their experience of last holiday season and try to give some surprise to gamers. These surprises may be game,price reduction or both. Both console will sell in large number (xone due to Halo,Tomb raider etc and ps4 due to those surprises). Casual gamers will be main target of Sony this holiday and in the long run Sony may convert some of those casual gamers to genuine gamer and Sony fan and Sony fanboys! But what is not going to happen is xone catching up to ps4 in worldwide sales.Bcoz there r many people in the world who think Halo is a FPS game and they can live without it and still be a very happy gamer (myself).

No, but it doesn't matter bc you can't make up for 1 and 1/2 yrs in a couple months. Sony has big unannounced AAA new ips to announce at e3 and the Uncharted Collection Remastered is coming to PS4 this Nov/holiday plus No Man's Sky may release this holiday and many more. With Morpheus and all the big studios working on new games for yrs now Sony is shaping up to take it back to the PS2 days in terms of industry domination, 2016 will be scary big and with a price drop they won't be able to make PS4s fast enough (again). New Quantic Dream game coming too.

People can say what they want but nobody can read the minds of executives of Sony and Microsoft. I, however, am of the opinion that this bothers Microsoft more than it bothers Sony. If you look at Microsoft's history, and then the history of its founder, you'll see my point. Bill Gates father was a lawyer that was extremely competitive and unless you mean to win, you may as well not even bother. This mentality obviously is a huge part of Microsoft. So, for Microsoft to trail behind, it's really going to get to them.

Sony? Is Sony really going to fall into a mental crisis this Holiday Season? No. I don't think Sony are as competitive as they were in the PlayStation or PS2 days. This holiday season will come and go and Sony will be the very same as they are now. Sony has become a lot more passive.
