Aside from Nintendo, no one is doing these type of games anymore. I hope this title spurns a new wave of 3d platforming games.

Venomousfatman3278d ago

Im more than sure that after the reception of the Kickstarter, somebody over at one of the other big companies has taken notice. You'd be crazy to ignore how fast this project got funded.

Now I dont want an over-saturation of titles like this, but I bet you they will release this game and then consider making a sequel. You can bet on that.

strauser3603278d ago

I'm not looking forward to the credits of this game.

Venomousfatman3278d ago

There will definitely be a long listing in the credits. Hopefully they do something clever by having some sort of Epilogue while listing all of the backers. That would be neat.

strauser3603277d ago

Its gonna worse than the LoTR credits but oh well.

SoapShoes3278d ago

Ratchet and Clank is coming this year. Sly 4 wasn't too long ago and may have a new game in the works but you're right 3D platformers are few and far between.

anash6113278d ago

Can't wait. Been waiting for a new Banjo, but this will definitely do

Venomousfatman3278d ago

With all of the people who worked on the original Banjo games, this is looking to be a very good successor to that series. There's just so much care going into making this game that fans of the genre are going to go nuts over.

rbailey3278d ago

My interesting timing for them to be working on this considering Rare is also working on a new game. Definitely looking forward to playing both games once they are released.

Venomousfatman3278d ago

After Phil Spencer saying that Rare has something for E3, I wonder if it will be an answer to what Playtonic Games is doing.

I'm betting its Battletoads and not a 3D platformer like Banjo-Kazooie. But there is that possibility...

XiMasterChief3278d ago

All the evidence is pointing to a new IP (from Rare). If Battletoads is real, It will most likely be made by a outsourced company (Iron Galaxy Studio maybe, they are/currently developing Killer Instinct).

Summons753278d ago

Rare is working on a new game....prepare for Kinect crap.

RaTaTaT3278d ago

It's all ready been reported that nothing rare is working on is Kinect related. Troll on friend.

gangsta_red3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

It's funny that THIS is the game we all desperately need and yet when Nintendo makes (and has been making) these types of game a lot of people post how they hate it because they're too cartoony or geared towards kids.

Gamer7773278d ago

Sometimes the demand for something is exaggerated by a minority being very vocal. I think more 3d platformers should be made , they aren't expensive to make and can be profitable with sub 1 million sales.

N0TaB0T3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

Maybe because Nintendo reuses the same characters over and over again, and there are about five games that don't feature Mario in some form?

EDIT: They can do whatever they want, but the way of novelty is not everything lasts and can get tired.

Metallox3278d ago

No. Let's end with this, please.

N0TaB0T3278d ago

I'm not here to piss all over Nintendo, but there comes a point in time and space when you look past all the quirky friendly undertones and hunger for something never before seen. It makes me appreciate Splatoon and whatever other IP is up Nintendo's sleeve.

Concertoine3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

I agree partly, Nintendo has damn near solely produced games in this genre since the end of the 6th gen. But this is a Rareware platformer. A totally different breed to anything made before or since. The last game in this vein was Banjo-tooie 15 years ago.

Nintendo and Rare make very different games built around the same structure. There are people that swear by Banjo and those that swear by Mario 64 because they are very different games.

The quirky humor, unique music, and great level design are what put a Rareware platformer above a Nintendo one imho.

DigitalRaptor3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

Yeah I agree.

Another article ( http://n4g.com/news/1719420... ) that was also professing that we "needed" this game, or that the industry was holding it back or something, whilst ignoring that both Sony and Nintendo have been making 3D platformers consistently for years including last-gen and going into this one.

I've backed this on Kickstarter, but only because I think it looks lovely and has potential. Not because it was desperately needed.

Venomousfatman3278d ago

Nintendo has been making 3D platformers with the Mario series, this is true. But a lot of the charm and resonance that came from the approach you saw from classic RARE is pretty much non-existent these days. The closest you can probably get to it would either be Knack or Rachet & Clank. There may be a few others, but nothing with the kind of approach we saw from RARE with the genre.

Concertoine3278d ago

I would say Jak and Daxter is the closest. Ratchet i can see, but Knack didnt even come close for me. It was okay to play co-op, but i can't remember cracking a smile and cant remember any dialogue or characters.

_-EDMIX-_3278d ago

As a HUGE fan of platformer games, the latest Mario 2D titles and 3D titles have been nerfed in terms of control scheme and complexity.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

if anything, as the folks who speed run regarding the complexity of the older series. They've been making them yes....doesn't mean they've been anything like their previous entries. This team has a history of making amazing Platformers and I very much feel that this team made the better Platformers on Nintendo's platforms, DK country, 64, both Banjo's, Conker etc. I'm looking forward to this platformer more then ANY other!

But I want an other crash game or Jak and Dexter game, not this.... Also 3d platformers are everywhere just go turn on your Wii/u

Metallox3278d ago

The only 3D platformer available in the console is Super Mario 3D World. Now, if you wish, the Galaxy games are also compatible, and Mario 64 and DKC are also available in the Virtual Console.

But even then, there are not so many, not enough to turn on my Wii U. Now, that doesn't mean the console's catalog is little though; in fact, it's very robust.

Tonykid3278d ago

What About:
Every Lego Game
Picmen
Epic Mickey 1 & 2
any game that uses those amiboo things like disney infinity
sonic

there are many other you just got to go out there and look for them.

Sureshot3278d ago

Banjo kazooie was better than both of those.

Tonykid3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

I didn't say the games i named were better.

It just this game is riding only on Banjo nostalgia.

Metallox3278d ago (Edited 3278d ago )

Good point about the LEGO games and Epic Mickey 2 (the first one is also available). But even then, if I forgot to mention them is they're not so relevant to me. But still, good point.

And no, btw, Pikmin 3 is an RTS, not a platformer. Some people like to argue this, but even if it wasn't an RTS it would be an action-adventure game.

Banjo-Kazooie were originally going to be in Yooka-Laylee

Playtonic is a developer made up of a bunch of former RARE devs, and the first title they worked on was the 3D platformer, Yooka-Laylee. Those who followed RARE over the years definitely saw the DNA of Banjo-Kazooie in Yooka-Laylee, but it turns out the original plan was even deeper than that.

Wouldn’t they be exclusive to the Xbox One version just like they were exclusive to the Xbox 360 versions of Sega All Stars Racing

Although since Banjo-Kazooie skins were available in every version of Minecraft, it could’ve been possible for the same to apply for Yookah-Laylee
