First Shadow of the Beast PS4 off-screen shots surface

I agree, I had hoped it was going to be a God of War style hack & slasher, but I'm cool with that.
It looks awesome from a graphical standpoint IMO!

Hopefully this means it will be definitely coming out this year.

PS4 has so many exclusive games coming this year, it's awesome!

It looks nice but a bit of me is disappointed that it is a 2D side scroller. I was hoping it could be similar to GoW or Darksiders or Altered Beast from the PS2.

The original was a 2D sidescroller. I was worried about it turning into a generic 3D game and losing what made it special :)

Umm no I disagree Mr. fei-hung. Not sure if its my age or yours that is the problem but this in 2D in gonna be super awesome.

@MetalProxy defo not the age, I'm 33 years old.

My only worry is that as a side scroller it will be a simple game with a short sp campaign. There aren't many 2D games in this style in this day and age that I've come across that had a decent length and badass boss battles.

The potential if it went 3D is huge and the combat can really be amped up as well. I played Shadow of the Beast as a kid, just as I played Altered Beast, another similar 2D game, and Altered Beast on the PS2 proved when done right, a 3D iteration is awesome.

However, all that being said, I fully appreciate that for many there is a lot of nostalgia and they rather have the game remain true to itself as a 2D scroller. There aren't enough of those around and for me I can always fill my hack n slash / beat'em up cravings with DMC4, Bloodborne, Darksiders 2 and Gow3 remaster :)

I agree with your thoughts on 3D games though. Why would 3D make it generic? There are so many incredible 3D action games. And they're a heck of a lot more fun than 2D side-scrollers.

Not saying all 3D equals generic. But "Shadow of the Beast" is a specific game with a certain charm.
Turning it into a modern 3D franchise might make it 'Shadow of the Beast' in name only

Yeah. I was expecting it to be a fully 3D world based on the trailer, but considering it's meant to be true to the originals, it's pretty obvious it was always going to be 2D. The art style looks really nice, at least from what can be seen.

I also spotted Nom Nom Galaxy (PixelJunk) alongside it, which means that will also be coming to PS4 this year too. Fantastic!

Yes, way back in the day this was my most prized Amiga 500 game from a graphics and audio perspective. The gameplay however was as basic as it could possibly get. Now if they revamp the gamplay to match the visuals then this will be a killer title.

Yeah man. The graphics had parallax scrolling which was something amazing for the time.

And the audio was totally cool. I remember not being bothered when I got killed, as the death tune was awesome!

@lfc It wasnt so much that it had paralax scrolling which had featured in many other games before then, it was the fact it had so many levels of paralax scrolling. I think 12 or 13 levels deep at some points in the game.

It's not made by Sony, it's made by Heavy Spectrum. Outlast is an indie game. Warframe is an indie game. No Man's Sky, Rime, Ori, Dead Nation, Castle Crashers, Loadout, all indie games. How many of those are on tablets/phones? Zero. Really a sad thing for gaming when indie is a bad word. A game is a game. The good ones stand out, regardless of whether or not they have endless production money from a publisher.

It's cool and all having it be 2D like the original... but I was hoping they were gonna expand it to be a full 3D game. I think it would have been a great change and they could have expanded so much more on the entire game. It being 2D though doesn't mean it's gonna be like the previous titles at all too.

Every now and then, I watch a playthrough of Shadow of the Beast on youtube to relive the music. The soundtrack for that game was incredible.

It's re-imagined not a real remake. That's what I meant.. It will be vastly different than the original games which is obviously the only way to do it if you have played the original back then. Check the game on YouTube if you haven't and you will know why. The gameplay is vastly outdated by today's standards.

Reimagined remake is the same thing. It does state its a remake and will be reimagined. Gameplay outdated? That would mean games like DK Country, Mario World and Mario Kart are outdated, when they are actually the biggest selling games today and still have a huge following of gamers, old and new!

Yes, PS3, 360 & EVEN Wii owners have been getting 2D games, hand over fist... I'm a 40yr old gamer, & I love a little 2D gaming....But, if ANY game could be bettered in 3D, I would be all for it, as I'm not stuck, clinging to the past, like it was the best time for gaming EVER...As that is a complete load of crap. If you want to keep playing 2D sidescroller games, & things that look as BUTT UGLY as Minecraft, then WHY UPGRADE FROM A SNES, or a PS1???

If Naughty Dog were still making 2.5D Crash Bandicoot games, then there talents would be wasted...I want to see new technology utilized to the fullest, I want to see FULL 3D gaming, that hasn't been a reality, until the past few gens, & now that graphics are getting nasty good.....developers are pulling back, & either making every 2nd game a remake from the last gen, or 2...or they are making a 2D side scroller...

The only reason developers made these games before, was because of the limitations in tech...So, now we get the power & tech advantage, but collective industry, seems to be pulling back,& purposely making games that look CRAP... They look like SNES games..... I don't want f$cking SNES games....I already have a SNES, & access to emulation, also.... SO, what I would really like from my next gen lump of wasted plasicy potential, are games that push the boundaries of what's possible on the hardware... I want the industry to keep moving forward, rather than sideways & back....... I mean, the bloody 3D platformer, is now a dinosaur, for the new gen of machines.... Even with PS3 & 360, the amount of 3D platformers, (as opposed to PS1 & PS2, & even Xbox original), is non-existent... In fact, Kameo & that terrible Banjo game were 360's only 2...And PS3 didn't fare a whole lot better, quantity wise, as there were bloody Jak remakes, & a few excellent Ratchets (Ratchet pretty much, solely covered the entire genre for PS3's lifespan), then Sly Cooper....I really strain to think of anymore, worth mentioning...In fact, even not worth mentioning....The genre just got totally frogstomped & forgotten about, from last gen ON....

So, lets forget 2D games.... Lets fight to get 3D platformers on the charts again.... I mean, what has happened????
