PS4-Exclusive RPG Disgaea 5 Gets 16-Minute Japanese Launch Trailer

Disgaea 5 is now available in Japan. Above is a launch video with plenty of gameplay on display. It shows the story’s intro, lots of fancy battle moves, character creation, and if you skip to about six and-and-a-half minutes deep, sweet combos.

I hope this does well. PS4 is gaining momentum in Japan, so maybe that could help this; and vice versa.

i still enjoy these turned based strategy games and yes it will help ps4 sales in japan which is a good thing. too much emphasis has been on portable gaming lately in japan.

I don't really keep track of these sort of games but PS4 seems to have a few exclusive RPGs. Throw in the 3rd party games and it's becoming a good console for RPGs.

As was the PS1 and PS2, its just the way it is, PS is the home of RPG.

So its a RPG with strategy elements. It looks unique and interesting, but im not sure what the heck is going on lol. Can anyone fill me in as to what games js this similar to? Ive never played this type of game before.

you could download a PSP emulator and try Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days

Or just buy Disgaea 4 or 3
they're both on PS4 and Vita

and as far as i know this isn't too similar to any other SJRPG

i guess FF Tactics would be the closest one and even then they're like night and day...

If you decide to play any of the Disgaea games then prepare yourself because they can rob your time like nobody else

It's turn based srpg, you would probably be better off with disgaea 4 or disgaea d2, although d2 simplified some of the grinding a bit it is still good. Both should be 20 or under online or gamestop and the like.

I wouldn't recommend part 3 because it is very visually dated on a modern tv.

These games are utterly ridiculous time sinks, but still very enjoyable.

Watch the attack or magic animations 1 time then disable both ally and enemy actions/move because they make even a single stage very time consuming.

Especially when you start going to item world, also save after every major battle/story battle or item world visit/ leveling spree, because unlike most games you can lose an hr or 2 of progress very easily.

Early on take a low level weapon or armor or both and go through item world to lvl 10 or 20 lvling up one of your main attack characters.

At least till you start increasing your shop/customer rank and being able to purchase higher tier items.

And the guy above me is incorrect on a ps4 version of those games, he/she likely meant to type ps3 instead of ps4, but no biggie.

I wonder if they will keep the original voice-over as an optioin for the western release, with english subtitles.
