Ubisoft survey registers consumer interest in various future Far Cry settings

Ever since the original Far Cry introduced us to the series' particular brand of tropical shooting back in 2004, fans have been wondering just how much the games would be improved by the introduction of dinosaurs. Seventy-five per cent? Three hundred per cent?

It appears that current developer Ubisoft isn't entirely opposed to the concept either. In a recent consumer survey sent out by the company, it asked several players what they would like to see in a future Far Cry game.

It's time they went back to Africa (Safari, Jungles, Cities), or Peru (Inca) ...or the Brazilian Jungles (Amazon Women) could feature, with some an ally and others anti-male!

Good be good ...just my thoughts ;)

Why not as long as it won't be reskined FC3 like 4 is.

whats wrong with Far Cry 3 or Far Cry 4`s graphics? Far cry 4 is currently one of the most beautiful looking games in the market. But of course with every new game we expect more high end graphics.

South America's Andes would be a cool location, in my opinion. Lots of culture, lots of beauty, lots of history.

@CaptainFaisal

I agree. Far Cry 4 is definitely one of the best looking games I have played on my PC. On any platform, though, it's definitely one of the best looking games.

They should shake things up yeah, but dinosaurs? Iduno about that

Instead of changing/replacing the fauna, they could do better changing up some gameplay mechanics.. perhaps add a pure survival mode, let people use spears and poisoned arrows/darts when out of bullets.
Or let people freely climb mountains and cliffs with some basic equipment

Dinosaurs? Dinosaurs?! who asked for that 7 year olds? WTF!

We did all that with Blood Dragon, and as a goof off, spin off im cool with that, as a main release? No sir!
How about a urban setting? Female protagonist, I like that Idea, like Shaw from Person of Interest.

Come one, lets live a little.

The dinosaur thing comes from the first game.

In the original Far Cry, the player comes up against crazed, beefy mutants - the result of a failed genetic experiment.

(Yes, after Far Cry 1 almost everything remotely paranormal was removed from the series.)

But earlier in the design stage, those mutants were actually dinosaurs. The very first Far Cry game ever was originally going to be the player on a tropical island vs dinosaurs. There you go!

I loved everything about FC1 except when it turned sci-fi then I wanted to ram my fist through the monitor (at the time it was PC game). I absolutely HATED the last level where basically I had to run for my life from one end of the map to the other while I was getting bombarded with every weapon, bad-ass heavy and those jumping fools. In short every "monster" the game the throw at me. It was a poorly designed 2nd and 3rd act to a brilliant 1st act. That those elements where ditched speaks volumes.
Blood Dragon did it right, a little tongue and cheeks, you can use the animals as bait or if you are not careful you could be bait, those elements have been implemented nicely into FC4....
But to me what Dinosaurs is not what makes this FPS stand out from the crowd.
From the first time I played it, it was the thrill of hunting my prey, the unpredictability of the entire situation. The fact that I could see for miles. That it was open world, I could do or tackle the situation as I saw fit. That's what I loved about it.

How about bringing back some of the gameplay elements from Far Cry 2? So much potential.

Swiggins3399d ago

Which mechanic are you referring too? Weapons rapidly degrading and jamming after 20 minutes of use? Having to stop every 30 minutes to pop a Malaria Pill? Searching high and low with a little green light leading you to diamonds? Broken stealth that didn't even work correctly because the second an enemy had ANY general sense of where you were they could instantly hone in on you?

The only thing I can remember being cool about Far Cry 2 (apart from the setting, which was awesome, I'd love another set in the African Savannah.) was the buddy system.

Chard3399d ago

Buddy system for sure, there's plenty of scope for improvement there. Yes the weapon jamming was annoying but the concept could be developed so you could make it a non-issue.
The minimalist UI/HUD and absence of hand holding that creates real immersion. The fire mechanics and the ways in which that could be exploited with wind etc. The brutal survival gameplay coupled with good enemy AI, less QTE's. Agreed malaria was unnecessary. There are other things I'm sure I'm missing.

At this point, only dummies have any hope left for Ubi-junk games.

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
