I had no idea this game run at native 4K on Pro. Nice.

DarkVoyager2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

I believe this is a mistake on IGNs part. According to GDC anyways. That or they’ve made progress since.

https://abload.de/img/detro...

DigitalRaptor2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

IGN is just reporting what the art director of the game said in this interview.

I personally think it was a slip of the tongue, which is weird that it didn't get picked up by anyone else at Quantic Dream. So maybe they worked towards making it native 4K. That would be very cool - I guess we'll find out soon.

DarXyde2217d ago

This would be the first I'm hearing about native 4K.

I don't own a Pro, but I'm hoping QD makes the right call on that (i.e., don't scale back graphics or performance to meet a native resolution).

Ju2216d ago

Does it really matter? The Pro version is improved on all ends. CB or not. GoW and HZD say hi. But I guess those two are unplayable in 4K, now that they use this totally train wreck of CB...

tmisellati2217d ago

the game runs in checkerboard 4k

S2Killinit2216d ago (Edited 2216d ago )

Who cares, as long as it looks good and has a good story.

tmisellati2216d ago

i have no problem with the checkerboard rendering tech.
actually games that use this tech look very good on 4k tv.

SuperSonic912217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Damn! What are these PS4 exclusives doing?!

Are they trying to outdo each other!?

And the mind boggling fact is the the PS4s graphics keeps on getting better and better with each AAA exclusive that is published.

Until Dawn was great then Uncharted 4 graphics was better then Lost Legacy was better then Horizon Zero Dawn topped them then God of War topped HZD!

How can this happen?

Will Detroit top God of War?

This is madness!

2pacalypsenow2216d ago

GOW, Detroit and Spider Man and that's just 2018...

Rude-ro2217d ago

I hope they do not push for resolution..,
I have no doubt this is the company that can do it... but they also push the hardwares performance with their games. Screen tearing and such.
No knock on them or the game.
I absolutely love their games, but I would love to see it run flawlessly or close to over “4k”.

DigitalRaptor2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

I don't think it's native 4K.

They've only ever talked about it being checkerboard 4K, and it was only in this interview that the art director said native 4K. So either something has changed over the past few weeks as they crunch towards that gold master disc status, or it was a slip of the tongue.

generic-user-name2217d ago

Hmm. That's interesting, Quantic Dream should probably clarify that before they get accused of false advertising if it was a mistake.

rainslacker2217d ago

Checkerboarding is technically a native 4K format. We don't use it that way, however, anyone that works with graphics would because of how "native" is determined. Basically, professionals and fan boys tend to have different views on what is considered native.

So, likely it is checkerboarded, thus, not what most on here would consider native, but that is what anyone who works with graphics may see it as, and could easily forget the context when talking to the layman. For instance, if I was talking to a dev about it, I'd not say it's not native for the purposes of frame buffer output, because i'd be wrong, and on a coding level, it would be problematic to distinguish....although source resolution still needs to be known, but that's a whole other, very technical topic I won't get into

dumahim2217d ago

IGN updated that Sony confirmed it's 4k checkerboard.

SuperSonic912216d ago (Edited 2216d ago )

@ dumahin
Dayum!!!!

My Xbox only friend actually was convinced to buy a PS4 Pro over a PS4 Slim because of the 1080p resampling optimization on 1080p monitors.
Lucky guy! I only have a launch PS4.

rpvenom2217d ago

Please be native 4k. and if they were able to do that.. maybe they can share their technique with future ps4 pro exclusives to reach that too! though i know nothing about game development so I have no idea if that is possible lol

AspiringProGenji2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Meh 4K.

PS4 pro still struggling to render at native 4k and MS stuck in the delusion that 4K will being them to the top with the X. Neither console should have existed. 4K has been a waste of resources this gen

jukins2217d ago

Neither should have existed? Are you crazy? 4k or not the enhanced visuals details effects and in some cases framerate, and on the playstation side greatly enhanced vr visuals are very worth the asking price.

I mean either console you're paying the same as what people played at launch for a much stronger console.

xenz2217d ago

I assume you dont own a 4K HDR television? Because to me, it’s certainly been worth it.

Heelix2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

in summary,

''the products don't appeal to me therefore they shouldn't have existed.''

although your comment is more transparent than that.

Since the Pro is not as capable as the X. Best you include how 'delusional' MS is for make a better mid gen machine.

AspiringProGenji2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

@xenz
Not yet. I have seen HDR and it is legit at least, but I really don’t see anything especial with 4K. I got an ultrawide monitor instead for my PC and kept my 1080p tv for PS4. Now UW is pretty awesome

@Helix
Both companies been delusional with this stuff, but MS has been the most for sure. After claiming the base Xbox was built for the future and that the cloud would help it with performance. So much for that... glad I didn’t fall for the hype for neither upgrades when games are looking just as good on Base PS4

@Jukins
“ I mean either console you're paying the same as what people played at launch for a much stronger console.“
You mean paying $500 more on top of another $500 either base console at launch (plus maybe Limited editions and/or a secondary console)? Yeah right... glad I got bold and saved for a PC instead

Omnislashver362217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Damn. Quantic Dream always pulls off visuals on the edge. I mean looking borderline nex-gen.

Considering that PS5 will do even more, I've got some serious hunger for new tech. FFVIIR needs to be a PS5 title guys.

dumahim2217d ago

I really don't think we'll see FFVII before PS5 launches.

Omnislashver362217d ago

Same. I'm thinking they're already making 4K textures and it will at least be cross-gen, if not, then PS5-only.

I think FFVIIR can really reach it's Apex on PS5. The "deformed realism" art style looks great on PS4 and is an improvement on Advent Children's sterile realism, but on PS5 we could be seeing something truly timeless.

ClayRules20122217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Building a whole new engine for each new game is really impressive. I was surprised they did that for Beyond, knowing the PS3 lifecycle was ending. I respect their dedication. The developers at Quantic Dream are “Masters” of technology, just like Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, and Sony Santa Monica.

Now, I know QD’s games are nowhere near as demanding as some of those others studios games, which I understand. But having power, doesn’t mean your going to be able to showcase stunning visuals in your game. Quantic Dream has done that with Heavy Rain & Beyond, which Beyond still looks absolutely amazing, with some of the most lifelike looking character models in game.

Native 4K on Pro, that’ll be something to witness. I’ll be experiencing it on the standard PS4, and I can’t imagine how incredible it’ll look.

DigitalRaptor2217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

I think demanding is a relative term, but I understand what you mean.

Quantic Dream has for a long time produced some absolutely mind-bogglingly photo-realistic visuals, especially in their environmental details, but not forgetting their main character models. The LOD during gameplay remains the same as you see in a lot of Naughty Dog, GG or Santa Monica's controlled cinematics, whereas the character models and scenery is never quite as detailed during gameplay in these games as it is during cinematics by comparison. Beyond: Two Souls looked almost a generation ahead of PS3 in parts, and I'm sure Detroit will give me that PS5 feeling at times too.

ClayRules20122217d ago (Edited 2217d ago )

Glad you understand what I mean, bud.

Yeah, their tech has allowed the artists to create some truly jaw dropping photo realistic visuals, especially with Beyond. Beyond, to me, was like the generational leap from Heavy Rain, as Uncharted 2 was to Drake's Fortune. The scene on the train in Beyond, where you fight those cops outside, with the rain coming down & the wind blowing still impresses me. Seeing the level of detail on that old man in Detroit was striking. I feel it'll do that for me as well.

rainslacker2217d ago

I'd say last gen, their games were probably more demanding than a lot of the powerhouse showcase titles that we saw from the various companies and console makers. It's just the places they put emphasis on are different than the more action oriented games, and in those places they excelled, whereas other companies didn't spend much time on them.

In the end, it doesn't matter how much changes per frame, or how much stuff is crammed into a single frame, rather what is being rendered per frame, and the resources required to actually render them.

That's great. Quantic Dream took everything they learned from their past games and built the most refined, coherent and interesting game and story yet. I even bought it on both PS4 and PC.

Seraphim480d ago

I preferred Beyond Two Souls. Still, Detroit was an exceptional experience just like Heavy Rain. Definitely happy to see the game has sold well over the years.

Fist4achin480d ago

Beyond was outstanding. Their other games were great, but BTS was my favorite so far.

CrimsonIdol480d ago (Edited 480d ago )

It took them nearly 5 years to accomplish that compared to a game that's just come out. Willing to bet a majority of those sales were heavily discounted too. Quantic Dream games were always heavily spruiked by Sony as exclusive graphical showpieces for the Playstation, so I'm sure that helped out too.

For reference the original Dead Space sold 2 Million over its lifetime, so some new IP from a new studio approaching that in its first year or so really isn't that bad.

sagapo480d ago

Great game, really enjoyed this one.

Nice. This is a must play and by far the best of QD’s titles (although I have huge love for Heavy Rain).

ApocalypseShadow785d ago

Agreed. This was a very good game. But I guess I love the genre that deals with humans and android like Almost Human which was cool watched in order but was cancelled, Humans, Ex Machina, I Robot, etc. I watch them all.

Cage definitely got this one right. It goes over similar material as other TV, movies and books, but it was put together well. Glad it sold.

S2Killinit784d ago

There is a very interesting show on HBO for you. Its called “raised by wolves”

porkChop784d ago

Almost Human was great. Yet another show that Fox killed with their meddling. I remember the show took two separate 2-3 week breaks in the middle of the season, just a couple episodes apart.

TallDarknWavy784d ago

This was a massive missed opportunity. Instead of really exploring the narrative that AI will one day replace humans, David Cage instead made a racism and slavery allegory with some of his dumbest writing to date. Just like all Cage games, he has the most condescending view of homeless people, who always have some secret society going on and are simultaneously the most moral, upstanding, ethical people, especially compared to anyone with money or power, who are cartoonishly bad. We get it Cage, you're a communist.

shadowT785d ago

love this game, Played it so many times and always got different endings. Even the main story line keeps the same, your actions and decisions can create a whole new plot.

785d ago
Godmars290784d ago

And? By all counts Quantic Dream/David Cage imploded their own reputation.

784d ago
Orchard784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

To this day, I am still very surprised that Sony did not buy Quantic. Especially after the HR, Beyond and Detroit era. Perhaps they tried but weren’t successful.

And now they’re off making multi-plats. Interested to see how their new title is.

CaptainHenry916784d ago

The same way I feel about Microsoft not buying Remedy 😁

Orchard784d ago

I’m glad that didn’t happen. The Microsoft back then is not the Microsoft of today, it would’ve limited their creativity and ultimately ruined Remedy.

A Remedy acquisition by Epic seems more likely nowadays.

SullysCigar784d ago

^ they didn't even need to buy Remedy to achieve that. See: CrossfireX

CaptainHenry916784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

@Sully

I guess you're right. Crossfire X is definitely one of the worse games I have ever played. I couldn't even finish the game.

784d ago
Orchard784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

@SullysCigar That hasn’t ruined Remedy though, most people associate CFX with SmileGate, not Remedy, and they still have a good reputation and will continue to have creative freedom - I have high hopes for AW2.

@CaptainHenry God, if you think CFX is one the worst games, you should try out some of the games that scored even lower than it :p I recommend Ride to Hell 😂

Knightofelemia784d ago

@Orchard

You will probably see Remedy snatched up by Tencent before Epic even makes or considers making a move on Remedy.

Quantic Dream didn't want to be purchased. Y'all act like a company can buy another anytime and without their approval.

kneon784d ago

If they are publicly traded then you can try, but QD is private company and are free to reject an offer for any reason, or no reason at all.

CrimsonWing69784d ago

Thank god they didn’t or anything from them would be censored worse than Indigo Prophecy was back in the day.

Godmars290784d ago

Likely because they don't have a sustained, ongoing IP. Something that could be done as a trilogy or series.

"The Microsoft back then is not the Microsoft of today,"

MS has really yet to show that they've changed.

784d ago
784d ago
Godmars290784d ago

@Comweb:

"Ori alone is more unique than the naughty dog clones and map marker open world trash sony craps out."

You put one indie title MS bought into after the fact of its popularity then made a co-op sequel against the entity of a Sony 1st-2nd party studio, and *I'm* the one in some kind of worship bubble?

As for console wars? There are none.

Nintendo's doing its own, low tech, thing, MS is more concerned with streaming than hardware, buying over making games and, as you said, Sony's more focused on open world action/drama.

Its really all about branding at this point and MS is struggling for something other than subscription online multiplayer when all they've done is subscription online multiplayer, as they transition to subscription gaming.

P_Bomb784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

“Ori alone is more unique than the naughty dog clones and map marker open world trash sony craps out. Maybe get out of ur sony n4g worshipping mentality…”

Um, Detroit: Become Human thread?

With how long they take to make games and how long they take to reach 6.5m sold with AAA budgets and being multiplatform, I can see why they didn't.

Orchard784d ago

Those are fair points. I guess back in the day I just assumed they’d end under Sony and they didn’t.

gamer7804784d ago

I love QD but I like new ip and story so I’m a bit disappointed there are making a Star Wars game.
