"It’s certainly nowhere near perfect, but its ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ gameplay offered enough to keep me entertained throughout the roughly two to three hour story mode. The stealth elements are certainly the most enjoyable of the game though – the aggressive approach felt weak at times and nowhere near as satisfying.
Whilst the back end of the game loses its way with forced combat situations, the bulk of the experience is made up of enjoyable, yet challenging, well designed levels that’ll keep you hooked with their ‘one more try’ appeal. Just expect plenty of those ‘one more tries’ along the way!"
Root is a charming strategy game in which players choose a woodland faction and battle for control of the woodlands.
TSA writes: Root, for those of you that may be unaware, is actually a digital port of the board game of the same name by Leder Games. If you haven’t checked out a board game since Monopoly, Root is a fantastic example of why you definitely should.
My local shop got the physical board game back in stock today and im thinking of picking it up tomorrow. Wasn't aware there is a digital version 🤔 wonder if I should try it that way first
Atmospherically, ROOT does deliver the sort of intriguing digital dystopia so woefully underused as a genre for modern video games. Unfortunately, problems with some of the gameplay systems and AI spoil the experience and never quite allow the game to live up to its potential.
Ouch, what a shame the game looks kind of cool but it doesn't sound like the game plays well.
Gutted.. was hoping this one would be good! Might give it a try anyway. Nice review.
