I Can’t Believe That Actually Ran On a ZX Spectrum

Junior Smart of Frost Magazine writes 'The keys were made of rubber, games did not come on discs but on cassettes, Graphics may never have stood a chance, there were no cut sequences, no insertion of video and photo-mapping was unheard of. But that did not stop it from becoming a home favourite. What programmers had to focus on was real gameplay, interesting storytelling and making one fire button count for everything. Join us as I give you the run down on games that were incredible to see on such a small rubber button keyed home computer.'

all those games we nothing compared to how technically amazing star strike 3d 2 was back when the star wars arcade game was wire frame only, and castle master too even though it was a bit slow and miles better on the ST/ Amega it was still a technical feat.

TheBrit4394d ago

Yeah not to mention Ultimate Play the Game (now RARE), Imagine and Ocean Software all had titles far more worthy of those on that list.

U.P.T.G was without a doubt light years ahead of their time.

Ah very fond memories of the old rubber key speccy.

bumnut4394d ago

Me too, I have a speccy emulator on my galaxy s2 but its not quite the same.

Yes, Star Strike was truly excellent. Far too many great games to mention in one piece I'm afraid So sorry if I missed anyone's faves. Does anyone remember Target Renegade, Way of the exploding fist, or Gauntlet? They were mine...

AtomicGerbil4394d ago

Nostalgia is a truly wonderful thing.

It's easy to forgot how many decent titles there were on the speccy. I'll have to fire up the emulator and take a trip back to the 1980s.

bumnut4394d ago

You're thinking how great it was at the time, they will be crap now!

Saboteur was amazing............ in 85 :)

AtomicGerbil4394d ago

You are right but they still bring back good memories.

Since The Contra Revival Shows Konami Still Cares, How About A New Castlevania?

Hanzala from eXputer: "Contra: Operation Galuga is a classic revival done right, but why hasn't Konami done the same yet for the bigger and more popular Castlevania?"

shinoff218332d ago

Slowdown. Let them get these suikoden games done first. Alot of us are still waiting for those

XiNatsuDragnel32d ago

Castlevania fighting game for wii needs to be remade plz

Aphrodia32d ago

well, the new C ontra was made by Wayforward, who have been taking sooooo many of these classic franchises and making new iterations of them. Imo they aren't very good at it. And I don't see operation galuga being a large enough success to possibly give them Castlevania.

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

just_looken39d ago

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake39d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Jingsing39d ago

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol
