Given the many challenges within the process of video game localization, it’s remarkable that many translated games turn out as well as they do. Software may need to be edited to allow the use of new alphabets. Dialogue has to be re-written to conform to the new language’s grammar structure. If the translators don’t understand cultural concepts unique to the developers, a straight translation of the phrases they use may look like word salad to the new players. Sometimes this will happen even if the translators are very skilled. Some concepts may require more than some fast dialogue to be communicated across cultural divides.
