Slowly but surely, iOS and Android devices are seeing full-length, well-received titles hit the platform that have more in common with established consoles than what we think of as "phone gaming."
For me mobile games are always going to be minute gaming. If I wanted to play a bigger game like an fps or RPG i'd play it on my console or pc.
My smartphones battery life says otherwise...I don't want to play a game to drain all the battery then I find I can't call anyone! I'll stick to dedicated handhelds thanks.
They might look like something that's getting close to console games, but as far as actually playing those games goes, they're not even close.
The point is in how quickly the trend is moving and shows no signs of changing. Of course today they're not even close, but they're exponentially closer than they were even a year ago.
I was talking about hardware, controls to be exact. A device which has only a touch screen will never be on par with console games, no matter how good they look. Some people say this can be fixed with an external controller, but wouldn't that be a blow to portability?
Oh I 100% agree that the touch screen controls will never evolve to equality. But while using an external controller would be a blow to portability, a lot of people aren't going to treat that as a deal breaker. It would still certainly be more portable than a PS3 or an Xbox 360, and more capable than a pocket system. It'll be interesting to see exactly where it goes, but the trend is firmly in place. And besides, you know someone's going to add dual analogs to a tablet at some point. Imagine the Wii U controller powered by Android with a Tegra 3. Problem solved.
