Gears of War 3 Multiplayer BETA: Have EPIC learned from Gears 2 with Gears 3?

Gears of War 3 is fantastic. My only complaint so far is where are the promised dedicated servers?

I still experience significant lag in the public matches and host advantage is really noticeable.

Epic/Microsoft get us the servers!

No lag for me. If they're not using dedicated servers yet, they'll probably implement it for the final game come fall.

I've experienced no lag at all. If these aren't dedicated services, the net code is pretty impressive.

I had lag when they took the dedicated servers down but nothing really after that. I did notice I was in a room yesterday playing TDM on check out and we all ran for the grenades when spawned but when we got there the other team already picked them up. Either one side of the map is closer or they started 1st. Also the other day I saw my own team shotgun a guy in half. The funny part was our guy had his back to the other guy. I would like to see some changes but if they left it as is it's 10x better than Gears 2 online.

Actually what I discovered reading the Gears of War 3 forums is that the servers get taken down and setup up from time to time.

If you experience a lot of problems like me (getting numerous host migration, lag and character disorientation), quit and reload the game. That will force your game to get the newest lists for dedicated servers.

If the game can't find dedicated servers it will revert to P2P which is why some of you haven't noticed anything.

The first week of the Beta the games were flawless. Love this game! ...but yeah get those server running.

I only care about single player and as long as the single player is better than Gears 2 and closer to Gears 1, then I'm happy. Going underground wasn't as fun.

Gears 3 will have dedicated servers so I'd say they learned from that glitchy lagfest known as Gears 2. My Xbox will finally be turned on in September.

ive played over 100 matches and im yet to experience any significant lag. region filters plus some great matchmaking/host choosing code has done its job.

also, Gears 2 has been using dedicated servers in the background randomly for matches for months. they were testing to see how it would work so they could implement it for gears 3. and it worked well.

the sawed off shotgun can be annoying as hell but overall very good beta i hope they dont change much....

Did any of you forget the guy who mailed a broken Gears 2 disc straight to Cliffy B's house saying on the disc "LAG SUCKS"? THAT was the main kicker for dedicated servers.
One guy spoke for every Gears of War fan with that stunt he pulled there, and I'm proud.

That and the thousands of videos on you tube complaining about lag. and the thousands of Threads on the EPIC forums complaining about it.

I'm just happy the weapons are finally balanced.
Machine guns now have a use, so cover is finally used.
Shotguns no longer drop people from 40 yards away.
No two-piece crap either.

No.. It still takes way too many bullets to kill off someone.. The only real way to make 100% sure you get the kill is with the chainsaw-bayonet thingy..

Also, The only two things I enjoy in the Gears series are the single-player mode & the horde mode. I've always desliked the MP 'cause of your enemies being huge bullet-sponges.

Thats the only differance i see in GEARS3 is better matchmaking, i can see EPIC GAMES is running out of ideas, skins for the guns? wat about some costomizable characters & more guns & being able to take sharper turns while sprinting. i hat having to stop & turn.

Gears 3 isn't unbalanced and I'll tell you why. While yes you have the speed and shotgun from Gears 1 in Gears 3. You also have the sawed off Shotgun. Which stops the regular Shotgun.

So if you wanna show off your shotgun skills Gears 1 style. Watch out because the Sawed off will stop you dead in your tracks. The next and crucial thing that makes the game balanced for me is the ridiculous stopping power of both Lancers and especially the Hammerburst. It will drop any shotgunner in seconds. This is one of the elements they kept from Gears 2.

So what you have here is a perfect mix of Gears 1 and 2 with the new stuff from Gears 3. I think all these elements put together make this a perfectly balanced game.
