Indie Uprising Review: radiangames Crossfire 2 (Crush! Frag! Destroy!)

CFD!'s Rob Thomas reviews the Winter Uprising sequel to one of the best received Xbox Live Indie Games retro-shooters:

"I only recently got hip to the neon-hued, retro-flavored goodness that are radiangames’ offerings on the Indie Games marketplace. Indeed, while my colleague in arms, Rob Rich, has played through all of their other releases to date, my only hands-on experience with their work has been with Fluid, released this past October.

"In preparation for reviewing Crossfire 2, I felt the need to at least be acquainted with its predecessor, so I could fairly judge it in context. After sampling the original Crossfire and getting a feel for its two-sided, battlefield-flipping attack gimmick (which was already pretty cool to begin with), I think I can safely go on record as saying that even the smallest, most incremental changes can make an old game feel totally new all over again."

This actually looks pretty cool. Slightly off topic, but kind of reminds me of audiosurf.

It's amazing just how much the customizable upgrade system adds to the formula. Bravo, radiangames. Bravo.

Okay so now all the indie games are taking on this techno rave colorblind. I liked it at first, but it's starting to not be special...

RogueCheddar4873d ago

Haha, yeah this happened with iPhone games too.

RobsteinOne4872d ago

For the most part, it's really just radiangames that does it. On Live anyway.

Ndigity4873d ago

Had some fun with the first, perhaps I'll check it out.

It's honestly a lot better. Like I said, the upgrade mechanic adds a lot more than you'd think.

Well this is disappointing, at least for me. I think the Remedy we knew is gone.

FasterThanFTL12829d ago

The Remedy we knew was mostly gone after they released Max Payne 2 in 2003. After that the Remedy name was used by Microsoft to sell Xbox consoles but that did not work out so well as Microsoft had hoped it would.

lelo2play2829d ago (Edited 2829d ago )

Alan Wake was a good game. Quantum Break, haven't played it...

The main problem with Remedy is that they take way too much time to make/launch a game.

InMyOpinion2829d ago

Compared to Kaz Yamauchi they are pretty quick. :D

starchild2829d ago

I've enjoyed the Max Payne series, Alan Wake and Quantum Break. I think Remedy is great. I hope we will get more games like those from them in the future.
