Mafia 2 - Final Build Screenshots

These first eight pictures were posted by Gamespot on August 6th and they are showing the final build of the game, which looks alot better than the demo as you can see the grass and less jaggies plus more vivid colors.

Played the PS3 demo and it was quite poor graphically, with loads of jaggies and some poor framerate while shooting in the warehouse. Graphically, these PS3 photo's look like a totally different game. They look a lot better than the demo. Hope the framerate is better on finished game. Why do they put out a demo that is so poor compared to the finished game, you'd think they'd want to show off the best of the game, not the worst.

My problem isn't the trigger itself (I'm fine using it for racing games or grenades), but shooting with R2 just feels... weird. I've always preferred R1 for my shooting.

The main problem with the demo is not "TEH GRAZZ", it is the unstable framerate, and ridiculous tearing, specially in the beginning, when you are doing nothing. R2 for shooting sucks big time, I seriously dislike it, and dont understand why multiplatform devels insist in implementing it on the PS3. However in the demo I was able to enjoy the shooting, so I just need the game to have a more consistent 30-ish fps framerate and no tearing.

The ps3 has alot less tearing than the 360, I know on the first floor of the building that catches fire the ps3 version hits 15fps for a small section but thats pretty isolated for me.

In terms of the pc version, bit gutted my built on a very small budget a while ago 9800gtx+oc'sli fall flat on their face with physx its painfully crap, without it on the game looks good not great imo.

because of the ds3 design, R1 fits naturally for your finger to use for shooting. In the same way, RT on the 360 feels natural for the design of its controller. It's a lazy error to set R2 as default shoot on the ps3 without customisation. You would never see RB used to shoot on the 360.

I own both consoles and I think the PS3 is by far better, but you and I saw the same articles showing the huge differences.

Bottomline: Judging from the completely conflicting articles, we can't tell until the game comes out. Until then, this articles is as reliable as the others.

Hopefully this runs a little better than the demo. Sub-par framerate and massive screen tearing really ruined it for me. Didn't really care so much about the textures and LOD, but the game's performance is simply impossible to ignore.

Hopefully it's fixed in the final version, or else I will have to pass on the title, or get it on PC.

1) Demos are produced as a separate entity from the final product. they have to be coded, then tested.

i know this because i remember back when i worked at Obsidian, we had to test the E3 demo build, which put off testing of the retail build. other companies work in a similar fashion. a demo is like a mini-project within the full project. staff needs to be set aside to code and test it. it's not a simple copy-paste job.

2) Demo's also have to be certified by the various platform holders. this can be a lengthy process, so even though the demo released on August 10th, chances are it was sent in for approval a while ago, using older code, and has finally managed to pass all submission guidelines.

if 2K had waited to make a demo from the latest build available, we'd probably be getting that demo quite a while after it actually hit retail stores.

i've yet to work at a company that has released a demo that wasn't based off of a build that was months old.

look at the God of War 3 demo from Santa Monica Studios. people were up in arms about the visual quality, but the final retail build looks significantly better. it's because of the same issues highlighted above.

While these do appear to be screen shots from the PS3 DLC, it is possible that it is actually the PC of 360 build. I wouldn't be surprised if the other platforms get the content eventually. Hopefully this isn't the case, because the PS3 version as it stands in the demo is pretty disappointing and looks worse than one should expect from the PS3 this far into its lifetime.

Wha???? Don't remember ???? Let me refresh your memory.... A week before FF13's long awaited release SE released official screen shots of both, PS3 and the 360 consoles in action. With none of them showing any difference from each other... AMAZING... When someone saw a significance.... Both pics looked exactly the same... By that i mean, even the last pixelated hair folical was identical!!!!

When people saw this they got suspicious, and asked SE out about this, with SE waving it off ... Luckily a FF13 360 pirate copy got leaked (as per usual)just in time, and people confirmed the screen shots were doctored indeed! With the 360 version running at a 576P resolution, with compressed audio and video (obviously). And looked nothing like the screens when compared earlier to the PS3 version of the game.

Now my point is T2 is taking the same strategy here. Taking the PC screen shots, and doctoring it with PS3/360 buttons, so it looks equally as good as what it does on its PS3/360 counterparts!!!

REMEMBER THESE GUYS WANT THE GAME TO SELL!!! So they will obscure the true version, to sell this game. Even if it is lying/misleading the public. Before people start to catch on.

After playing the demo I was pretty disappointed with the inconsistent visuals. But this looks a lot better. Hopefully they've fixed the AI on the police, since the demo too. As they are quite terrible.

You can go into the gunshop, kill the owner, and just sit there. They never come, even though you've had a wanted level. I had them come in the shop once then back out and drive off, too. What the hell?

Ah well, it's a lot of fun. Much better gunplay than the GTA games... silly rockstar and there belief that you need lockon to keep the gameplay engaging.

They don't doctor screens. Prerendering and other techniques are completely different to publishing screens of a specific build, which aren't such, physically doctoring the screenshots with controller layouts of another platform - would be illegal.

It is however questionable why they released this demo at all, though. I'm aware demos are developed aside of the main game - but the demo, or at least the PS3 demo does not exactly put the game in a brilliant light. Even the 360 version has a horde of tehnical issues, like the worst screen tearing since the first assassins creed, and more jaggies than a plane crash.

The demo was pretty bad on both systems and yes the PS3 demo is missing foliage, but both versions suffer from frame rate issues and screen tear. On the other hand it states (in the demo) that this build is not going to be in the final version of the game. The guys at NeoGaf just want to get some quick hits on their site.

I must say, it does look pretty bad compared to the 360/PC version.

I am actually surprised the PC version doesn't look MILES better then the 360 version and yes, I am playing on max settings. Yes, of course it looks better, but the graphics jump between the 360 and PC version, isn't as big as the hardware jump between high end PC hardware and 360 hardware.

Still looks damn good though, but it's a shame the developers couldn't optimise it further for PC.

BTW anyone on PC version having issues with 360 controller whoever is using one on PC? At times while playing, my controller will become non-responsive and I have to unplug it and plug it back in =/

To be honest, i do not think these screens are from the ps3 build.
I hope so, but i do not think so.
And i do not think you can count on the DLC screens to say "the ps3 version will look as good", because, you know, DLC are supposed to work with every version of the game, so it is easy to understand that 2K may have done screenshots using "PC lead" version.
But keep in mind i hope the ps3 users will have a decent port. There is a lot of people that decided to go with this one in particular because of the attractive dlc.
And, last thing. When i played the ps3 demo version after the pc version, i did not notice the missing grass, only the horrible framerate. :p

Well first the xbox version has slightly less tearing when inside buildings

Second there is some strange flickering with the trees when driving at speed with the ps3 version. Thought it could be my TV, however this does not occur with the xbox version.

I think those videos and screen shots are pointless to compare the games. You need to see the games running at full res with common setups and play different areas of the demo to get an idea which one is the better choice. It was similiar situation with the just cause 2 demo...

I own both ps3 and 360 which are both great consoles in my opinion and i downloaded both ps3 and 360 demos.My conclusion is the 360 is the better version in terms of looks and thats going by the demos not the final builds.Both consoles have great exclusives Heavy Rain,MGS4,God of War 3,Gears of War Halo etc and when it comes to ps3 exclusives it out shines 360 in my opinion but the ps3 does get shafted ocasionally on multi-format games in terms of graphics compared to 360.Now people who agree with me know its the truth and those that dont are obviously blind,so be nice folks and enjoy which ever version you purchase.

I agree bro, the PS3 version did get the short end of the stick with Mafia 2 going by this demo. And this pics really don't prove anything, I believe I saw a video on IGN showing off the exclusive DLC for the PS3 and it looks like the demo that was just release. But I'm pretty sure both versions will be enjoyable regardless of what platform you pruchase the title own. But I don't want to jump to any conslusions, I have to wait to see the final build.

Judging from the resolution, blur and aliasing you could say its PS3
The PhysX is advanced becuase all the particle affects remain on the fall so it can't be PS3, must be PC

First of all, like many other people said DLC is ps3 only and the triangle button appears on the screen.

More important is the fact that a dutch website has gotten an early look at the final ps3 build and say all the issues (framerate, tearing, aliasing issues) are gone!! Compared to earlier build (all according to the magazine!) the final build is very much improved and looked absolutely great!!

So please stop the "fake/bullshot" crap!

Instead of talking about the triangle button and the exclusive DLC you should stop and think about which platform these games are developed on. Just because there's a pretty picture doesn't mean it was taken on the target platform.

Instead of talking this crap please take the time to actual read a post. These may be bullshots, higher resolution etc. GT5 does the same thing all the time. But trust me, the Dutch magazine that played the final build of the ps3 version, aint talking shit. What does a 1200p image tell you? It doesn't mean shit!
