CoffeewithGames.Blogspot.com says in one portion, "Mr. Pachter originally said, 'Nintendo's Wii, will not see any exciting exclusives until at least May...".
I said that I thought he was wrong, and I named both Red Steel 2 and Monster Hunter 3 as just two Wii retail exclusives releasing before May."
CwG shares Mr. Pachter's response and thoughts on how Red Steel 2 and Monster Hunter 3 will perform.
Phil writes, "Too often we see video game sequels that don't quite live up to their predecessors... but we already have an article series dedicated to those games. Instead, let's take a look at those video game sequels that not only live up to their predecessors but greatly surpass them in quality. It's time to bring back The Most Improved Video Game Sequels (you can read part one here) to check out these sensational sequels that delivered and did so in a deliciously delightful manner."
Resident Evil 4
Ratchet & Clank 2
Silent Hill 2
Street fighter 2
Castlevania: Symphony of the night
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Assassins Creed 2
Metal Gear Solid (not first game in the series)
Tekken 3
God of War (2018)
Mortal Kombat 9
Devil May Cry 3
Virtua Fighter 4
Luigis Mansion 3 doesn’t really belong in that list because the first game was great and it’s sequels didn’t really redefine the series.
There’s more to Ubisoft’s back catalogue than its Templar-bothering flagship franchise and we’re here to prove it. By grovelling for remasters, of course.
With the Switch bringing interest back into the realm of motion controls, it seems as good a time as any to dip back into the backlog and retrieve some lucrative nuggets from the one that launched the phenomenon in the first place: the Nintendo Wii.
After reading his response, what do y'all think?
I think Red Steel 2 will probably hit around 1 mil over time.
As for Monster Hunter...I dunno. I'm fairly certain that we won't be seeing Japan-levels of success sales-wise, but it'll definitely have a solid number of sales.
In the long-run, Red Steel 2 will probably satisfy Ubisoft's relatively low expectations of 500K in unit sales. As for Tri, for once, no one can reasonably accuse Capcom of half-assing the marketing job, but unless something's changed, I'm pretty sure they want to move about 900K cumulatively in the West. That's going to be an uphill struggle if ever there was one.
@hardcorez:
Any particular reasons?
@lociefer:
His thoughts about the original Wii Fit were accurate.
@Keith Olbermann:
I don't have a lot of hope for RS2, MH3 though, I think we may be surprised by it.
@respawnaction:
There seem to be quite a few people that think Wii games should be more stylized in the graphics area. If it helps keep the game running smoothly, but is also easy on the eyes, I don't see why not.
@Omegasyde:
That would be very interesting to see the reactions of the people buying the game, expecting Pokemon.
@Seekerofthewind:
I don't know if RS2 will hit a million over time, I really don't.
I think it will fall into the same 300-500K range as games like The Conduit and MadWorld.
@Mahr:
I'm really interested to see what marketing campaign MH3 gets.
The game has a lot of potential and the marketing can go several different ways to approach different audiences.
Thanks everybody for the discussion and comments!
"I'm really interested to see what marketing campaign MH3 gets."
Well, it's already received a demo, controller bundles, those 'Monster Hunter College' classes, one of the rare third-party editions of 'Iwata Asks', events like that barbeque in LA, and of course the Ironbeard ads. I think the bigger question is if/how well Capcom keeps up what it's been doing once the game actually drops.
