They sell more usually on one particular game cuz of the lack variety. The most recent very good game 360 had was ME2 and what a great game that was!

But if you look at all the PS3 games, there's a ton of great games covering different genres. So a particular game's sales gets spread out to other games unlike games on the 360 which become concentrated on one game. Also, it usually takes 3-4 months before a good game is released on the 360 which garners a lot of hype/sales due to starved 360 gamers.

They might come close and even pass it in Hardware but the truth is MS is totally killing Sony in software and services were it counts. The article isn't factual or news. For one thing, it claims Metal Gear Solid 4 has sold over 5 million units. The article links to Wikipedia as proof but the comment made in Wikipedia links to Konami's 2009 fiscal year report claiming the game has shipped 3 million units worldwide at the time of reporting. That said, it doesn't matter. You look at software sales in general and the XBox 360 usually outpaces the PS3. From the comments in here by the same PS3 fanboys who claim "sales don't matter", it clearly does. Stop lying!

I know what your saying. Exclusive games on both systems sell about the same. Its more the 3rd party games that blow away PS3 sales. And every game that is sold on Xbox is $$ for MS.

Though the article is very picky, Nothing about Killzone or R2 which both sold poor considering the kind of games they are. Yet HR is selling well as did Demon Souls.

Sales are so very complicated, even more so with how fast game prices drop and how much advertising plays an effect now days.

Whether the conclusions are accurate or not, this is absolutely a HORRIBLE way of comparing the data.

Anyone who does any research can see by the 2nd paragraph that this is not at all a scientific or logical way of comparing the data. He is picking random games to compare together, and just so happens to be picking ones with the same sales data.

And frankly, games that are on 360 and PC SHOULD be on this list, since he is comparing the 360 to the PS3.

UPDATE: I just read this guy's follow-up article on his site, and its even worse. He proclaims that it is a more fair comparison of sales on the two systems, yet he pulls the sales data from different locations and different dates. He lists the current sales data for some of the games, like Resistance and Forza, but uses numbers more than 2 years old for other games! The number he pulled for Halo 3 is way off, its from January of 2008. If he's so fair and responsible, why doesn't he use comparable data from a single source to get accurate comparisons?

I'm going to do my own article on this, and see what results I come up with. But I'm going to use a set, pre-determined way of comparing the games, before I even look at the data. Will he be proven right? Maybe. Maybe not. I won't know until I'm done.

But this is an awful article, very poorly done. I can't believe people are even arguing the "facts" it presents.

Uc2 has sold 3.5 million and that was reported a few months ago.
Should reach 5 million soon.
No other exlusives sold over 5 million yet.

Gears 1: 5-6 million. Yes ts on PC but were talking a game taht came out a year before on 360 and sold 6 million without the PC sales. ALSO LBP is on PSP, thath cant be on the list either lol.

Gran Turismo doesn't do Halo numbers at all, the only reason the series sells so much is because of bundles.

Take a peek at the Gran Turismo titles that weren't bundles, they sold like 4 million units lifetime.

So just some quick analysis of the charts:

-360's top 50 sold *50.32mil MORE than ps3's top 50 games combined, I didn't go much further because 360 has alot more higher sales in total since it has more games. However the top 50 is a key indicator of which console is selling more games. To put that into perspective lets say hypothetically speaking 360 didn't release another AAA exclusive the rest of its life cycle; considering the bar for most of the best games is usually around 2mil sold, ps3 would need over 25 more 2mil sellers to equal 360's top 50 best selling games, wow!

They both have great games, I have most of the higher rated games on each platform and a few of the lower rated ones too which quite honestly I think are much better than they got credit for but based purely on the numbers I've seen over the years the difference seems to be that 360's great games sale a bit better. First off, if you are comparing PS3 games vs 360 games, they it's an exclusive if it's not out on the other console. Perhaps you would rather it be called console exclusive.

Second, all this douche did was found a game that sold well on the PS3, them looked through a list of 360 games and picked on one that sold less and compared them.

If you PS3 fans want to continue to tell yourselves that Gears 1, Mass Effect, Etc. are not 360 exclusives, the go right ahead, if that makes you feel better. The problem I have with some of you guys is that you refuse to admit when something is lame if it supports your console, which makes you lame also.

Perhaps because the article selectively picks games to match them up in a biased fashion. There is also the issue of looking at a sales figure relative to platform size i.e. the penetration rate of a particular game.

What happened to a bunch of other games including KillZone 2, Resistance 2, Ratchet & Clank, Banjo Kazooie, Gears of War 1 and so on....

Also, is the fact that is it fair to compare a title that is a relatively new IP as opposed to a veteran one?

Of note is also, when the game reached it's sale. If it is earlier, that means a lot more customers payed full price as opposed to it going budget. Lower price means more people buy it at impulse which is not necessarily representative of the success of the title.

I think more interestingly is third party sales. Why? Because it is generally (not always due to marketing) more even. The same title is for the most part identical on both platforms.

In the end, do we really need low quality articles that clearly is just out to fuel the fanboy flames. I now find more useful game news on kotaku.com and joystiq.com than a site dedicated to news from around the whole internet!

GOW3 is a sales BEAST and GT5 will follow in its footsteps. PS3 has nothing to worry about sales wise.

Yes the 360 WAS selling its exclusives more readily....when the install base gap was much larger, and the negative ps3 hype (4d, take a second job, riiiidge racerrr) was still taking its toll.

As the market stands now, the systems are damn near dead even in terms of the impact the heavy hitter titles make.

Despite this it surely logical that 360 exclusives sell more as there are 5m+ more consoles. Attach rates are more valuable assessments.

Right, before you kick off I'd make a couple of points. Firstly, although the figures are no doubt not 100% concise theres still a gap there. However!, the attach rate for both consoles is probably around the same.

The last point I'd make is this, the PS3 favourably has 5 completely individual ips in its top 5. In the 360 base its 2 Halos and 2 Gears. The sales numbers are strong but I'd like to see a few more different gaming experiences to become headliners on the 360.

After all, its the games that matter and not the sales figures.

In the end both consoles have got large hungry install bases and no developer is going to pack up and stop developing on either system. I think its great that new IPS like LBP get 3m+. This site has no other agenda than showing there is a semblance of parity between sales figures for each platforms exclusive games save for 1 or 2 titles. What other agenda do you see? Because it isn't saying one is better than the other which is generally what someone with an agenda would do.

The article also proves there really is no need for damage control by showing there really isn't any damage.

They didn't pick Gears 1 because they said they were picking console exclusive titles which Gears 1 was not, Hao 3 left out for obvious reasons and it was mentioned why. The games chosen are pretty much the top selling exclusives on each platform to date, which other console exclusives would you have matched up against each other (don't say Halo 3, we all know nothing to date this gen matches up to it).

The only 360 exclusives that sells like crazy is Halo & Gears. Otherwise it's not that big of a deal. Plus the PS3 started getting great sales on their exclusives as well. Look at Uncharted 2, it sold 3+ million copies. Just wait till Gran Turismo comes out. There are some pretty petty arguments here. Truth is that console exclusives in this generation tend to do well in general. All I know is that the exclusive games I've purchased for each console have typically been of higher quality than most multi-platform games I've played.

Come to think of it, I'm starting to trend to buying only exclusives. My gaming budget isn't unlimited, so I pick up only the absolute best of what the PS3, Wii and 360 have to offer. The only exceptions that I can think of off-hand are Assassins Creed and GTA IV and Rock Band/Guitar Hero.

I don't game on PC, so the whole "it's on PC, too" argument doesn't apply to me.

People don't acknowledge that PC is a console within itself. I mean one of the biggest exclusive games to Pc isn't on Xbox or PS3.

Case and Point.... If a Game is on XBOX and PC, Sony only players can still play it. All they need is a pc which im sure they would have. It hurts the industry to be a fan boy.

At the end of the day when all is said and done, game developers inspire one another. Fan boys divide. think about it.

Maybe it's just semantics, but PC is a platform, as is Wii, PS3 and 360. But PC is not a console. Console has a connotation of something where the specifications are fixed and can't really change.

It's just my opinion, but I'm not too keen on the "if it's on PC it isn't exclusive" argument. There's the weird sort of console exclusive argument where there are games on PC and PS3, but not 360 and games on PC and 360 but not PS3. But how many people actually do get the game on PC if they don't have the console that it is available on?

Sure, you can play the game somewhere else. But do PC games really compete directly with console games? Maybe they do, I don't know. Just having a PC isn't always enough. You have to have a PC with the proper specs to play the game, and not everyone does. I have 5 computers in my home, but none of them could play a game at the same level of detail as a console.

I've always just kind of figured that most people are one or the other (PC or console), but rarely both.

going to have to disagree with you here Reburn. i think if its on PC as well its not an exclusive. you saying because a percentage of people who have a PC cant play modern games on them, so it shouldn't count. with that logic i could say a game only on the 360 and PS3 is exclusive cuz i only have a PS3 to play it on.

I can certainly understand your point of view and you state some very compelling reasons. I guess what I can take away from it is that folks do indeed see this thing in different ways.

I kind of do think that if a person only has one console then to that person exclusivity is a relative term. Sure, they're limited to the exclusives they can play, but they're also limited to what version of multi-plat games they can play. To them the only version of a multi-plat they really matters is the version for their console, so it doesn't matter if it is exclusive or not.

What I can take away is that we all see this differently and there's no sense arguing about it. To some, it never matters that a game is also on PC because they'll never play it there, anyway. Others may only have one system for various reasons, so they make a choice based on preference and have to live with it. Too bad so often they can't just be happy with their choice and to justify it try to make others feel bad about their choices. But such is life.

Who cares about the amount such and such a game sold?
As far as I'm concerned it's about quality. To me, that makes Uncharted 2 a better game than Halo 3. Halo 3 sold loads of copies because it's a very solid popular franchise. Uncharted 2 was a much better game in my opinion (yes I have played both) but it didn't sell as much. Hence, the amount a game sells does not make it a better game.

My gaming-library on 360 is bad, only shooters and multiplattforms, yes Mass Effect 2 can u get on pc, but on my PS3 I have a huge selection of gametypes that I prefer.

For me PS3 have the best year "again" with Heavy Rain and now God Of War III, and I got superior version of FF13 on PS3, and only 2 games on 360 is Mass Effect 2 " that game was overrated, its only a 9 in my eyes not 9.6" and BFBC2

For me sales dont matter, if they did then my gamingworld had been the end and gone forever... Im getting games for the quality, not sales...

Halo odst worldwide sales are at 5.82 million right now, gears of war 1 sold over 6 million recently and that should have been compared with MGS4 not gears 2, also, crackdown 2 is over 2 mil worldwide, uncharted 2 is actaully under 3 mil worldwide as of now so this guy is n00b lol

One day ill pull up a videogame sight that actually talks about videogames. Hopefully the community on the sight talk about games along with it. The console was and the PS3 VS 360 war has gone on for a good long time now. instead of actually playing all the great games that arrived this year and last, people sign on to argue. Not even a debate but to seriously fight.. BUT.. since im here i might as well start swingin as well.

BOTH consoles are losing to the nintendo wii in just about every area. Fighting for scraps and copying motion controls is down right sad. i have a wii and do i like it or even play it? No, but the console is still winning. The 360 ps3 war is pointless because even if one beats the other they both still lost.

Yakuza 3, FF13, GOW3, and others all just dropped. I say the crazy people that are on this sight 24 7 talkin shyt on this sight should go play them. The only "war" you should be worried about is Kratos VS everyone else. Not sales numbers.
