Bad Company 2: PC vs. PS3 vs. Xbox 360 - a graphic comparison

Which platform offers the best graphics? No doubt. It's the PC. Nevertheless the console versions look quite good. More through the link.

The ambient lighting on the PC version looks awesome

Venatus-Deus5196d ago

To my untrained eye there is no noticeable improvement that would warrant spending any extra money on a gaming rig.

Surely you must be able to adjust the graphic settings on the PC version.

led10905196d ago

you need to put on your glasses to not notice the difference between the three versions. And a 3 year old 8800 gtx can pwn this game. So you can play the pc version, get good graphics and you still wont have to spend a single buck on it if you have a 3 year old high end pc. Grow out of the misconceptions that you ppl have

narked5196d ago

oh come on you cant say you dont notice the difference. lighting is way better

LukaX235196d ago

yay, more flame wars... -_-

Bobby Kotex5196d ago

Got this for my PC. I didn't spend money on a 'gaming rig'. The beta is running great on my 3 year old Dell and a cheap GeForce 9600.

Venatus-Deus5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

So you’re saying you still need to buy a high end PC, which cost even more in comparative terms 3 years ago.

@ Bobby

OK... But is the difference in cost when you brought that PC, more that a console compared to a cheap £350 laptops and PC's you can buy to do usual PC stuff?

darx5196d ago

Your right there really isn't that much of a difference for someone like myself to go out and spend the extra cash on a new rig. PS3 version for me.

Letros5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

So what if it costs a little more than a $299 slim... Most of us enjoy the optimal experience, and graphics are the least concern for me anyway(even with it maxed in DX11), its the M/KB + dedicated servers which push this version far above the top, oh yea theres also 3D mode and 16:3 aspect ratio for those who want it. Its called freedom to play how you want, not how MS/Sony say you should, if don't want this then stay out of PC gaming.

MerkinMax5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

I can't believe that because this game pwns my GTX 275. What settings did you use on your 8800?

TheIneffableBob5196d ago

@sltPoison
I'm guessing you have a slow CPU. Bad Company 2 is a game that benefits greatly from quad-cores.

MerkinMax5196d ago

I'm pretty sure my i7 920 at 3.66 ghz is enough...

DaTruth5196d ago

Lets not argue about what is a better deal! The argument should focus on what the hell is wrong with the PC comparison shots!

I just can't believe the PC version looks that bad! Has bad lighting and aliasing all over the place!

I'm sorry, but I have to call bullish on this comparison and say this is a 360 fanboy trying to convince people 360 is the one to get! PS3 and PC look washed out. You could convince me that PS3 version looks like that with no RGB(only own a PS3) and is a bad port, but the PC version looks equally as bad with the 360 looking like the settings have been set properly!

5196d ago
Dev8 ing5196d ago

Venatus one thing you don't consider is the savings PC gamers get. Every new game, day one, is at least $10 cheaper for the PC version than the console version. Not paying $50 a year for live adds up too. Consider, you buy 5 games a year that is a $100 savings every year. So every 2 years you could upgrade your graphics card to the newest midrange card, and not even that if you're savy (my 5770 cost me $130 for an open boxed one).

Greywulf5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

First off, a 8 year old computer's max settings would crush most console games now. HL2 on a PC on max settings out performs the 360/PS3 version. Doom3, Stalker.. Consoles have yet to see that kinda performance. Only really the PS3 has with Killzone2/Uncharted. And that even falls short. The 360 can't really be brought up since it just uses the unreal engine. You guys are playing all these old engines thinking they are new. Its sad. Do you really think a 360 without a HDD is going to compare to a PC? Come on.

You dont JUST use a PC for gaming, most folks buy the high end equipment for utility like work in 3d fields. Consolites love to pretend that PC gamers are out spending $4000.00 just to play a single game. No, you buy it to play every single game you ever touch on maximum. What I don't get is that Xbox360 & PS3 owners LOVE to gloat about stupid silly little texture filtering differences. You all know this is true. "LOL The ____ version runs at 29 fps.. while the other runs at 30! DEFINITIVE" Yet, you're going to pretend you can't notice Ambient occlusion? My ass. Uncharted2's "LIGHTING" Was the best in consoles history due to this.

Bloom in the unreal engine on console games, you guys all go gaga... "WOOAAAH" Distance Fog... "WOOAAAAH" then you're all experts. But now, its "i can barely tell". Hell if thats the attitude you guys have about PC gaming supremacy, then all console versions by those same "MEH I CANT TELL THE PC VERSION DETAIL" are IDENTICAL. Its BS..

Half of this site is amazed by a FLASH LIGHT IN THE DARK with alan wake... yet.. you can't see ambient occlusion? LoL please.

Im still on the fence with this one, I don't have as many PC friends as I do console friends that will actually play this one with teamwork, and this one is fun as hell with teamwork. So might just be the triple version. I bought AVP on the pc though, i dunno. It kinda just depends. I prefer to play alien vs predator with my headphones, and can't really do that with my ps3.

PotNoodle5196d ago

The difference between the PC and PS3 versions that i have played were much greater than shown in these screenshots.

Were these in DX11? Was everything on maximum with 8X AA, 16xAF, etc?

dirthurts5196d ago

I've mad the same comparison. These look like arse compared to how it looks on my pc. I don't think these are maxed out...
especially not AA settings.

raztad5196d ago

The PS3 version was jagged as hell. I wasnt impressed at all by BC2 visuals. I expect the PC version to be light years away from console's. DICE is a dedicated PC developer.

ProjectVulcan5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

Crying out loud....they havent even turned on AA in the PC version. Retards. Dont see how i could trust this comparison when the Pc version clearly isnt taking advantage of said platform perks most Pc gamers will enable

bokharij5196d ago

but the difference is yet again only in sharpness that can be adjusted on a TV. Sharpness doesn't mean better graphics. The lighting effects are good but the PS3 version has a better look to me (At first I was agreeing with people about the lighting until I realized I was looking at the PS3 version). Yes I PC game and can max out games, I test games for comparison, but the only game I think stands out for PC is Crysis. I think most PC gamer just like to defend there purchase. Hope you all enjoy the version you pick, they are all awesome don't worry about what people say about graphics, not even me, just pick what you think is best. I love PC gaming as well, but I play more video game console versions(PS3).

Ares84PS35196d ago

I have to agree with you completely. Though I do not make comparisons on my own I do think that many times PC gamers are just trying to defend their investment which I don't think they need to. Anyways going by this comparison the differences are really minimal. I just picked up my copy (PS3 LE) and can't wait to go home after work and start the campaign mode. :)

ProjectVulcan5196d ago (Edited 5196d ago )

Im pretty sure you missed the entire point of this comparison if you think those shots well represent the Pc version when it is maxed.....if you want to play it at console settings 1280 x 720 with no filtering and 30 frames a second as the shots show, then yeah, get it on a console. But for the fact that on Pc @ 1920 x 1080 thats more than double the resolution and then throw filtering on top, even with identical settings, the PC version would look ridiculously smoother, can run much faster which is even more of an advantage. These shots dont usefully show the massive advantage resolution or smoothass framerates actually brings as usual, you can only ever see that first hand. To be honest, thats exactly the sort of talk i would expect from a console gamer who HASNT experienced it first hand, because they cannot comprehend it otherwise.

When you claim that the difference between console and Pc is a slight bit of 'sharpness' you can adjust from a HDTV, then it doesnt exactly convince me you have a clue what you are talking about and makes me question if you actually game properly on Pc like you say you do. Other than that yes, im going off to 'adjust' a ten year old SDTV so a DVD looks the same as 1080 bluray on a HDTV, its the same identical movie, just a bit sharper. Because thats only a small difference with resolution you can fiddle settings and get about the same quality, right?

tdrules5196d ago

seriously?
so you cant notice the pixelated shadows, jaggies and stupid bloom on console version.
and theres more reasons than gfx to buy PC version really, shooters need fast reactions, not 30fps and EA servers

and where i live a HDTV and a "HD" console is more expensive than a more powerful PC and monitor

Venatus-Deus5196d ago

"and where i live a HDTV and a "HD" console is more expensive than a more powerful PC and monitor"

And the winner of the years most stupid comment on N4G goes to tdrules!

Come on son, step forward and take your prize.

RedSky5196d ago

You were the one talking about spending "extra money on a gaming rig", so when will you be available to collect the prize?

Venatus-Deus5196d ago

Great comeback... I'm on the floor!

Led1090 has already stated that all you need is a 3 year old high end pc. Which 3 years ago cost a lot more that the xbox 360. He has 2 agrees. My point therefore stands.

led10905196d ago

well one can always go out and buy a 3 year old config even now. It is pretty damn cheap

Dev8 ing5196d ago

Venatus you're an idiot. Reread his comment. A console and HD tv versus a PC and Monitor.

Here is an article on a $500 PC rig.
http://www.maximumpc.com/ar...

And good monitors are about $200-$300.

You can get a decent HD tv for $800 but the console will be a few hundred more.

Anyways I am not impressed with these visuals for either platform.

I just started playing Spec op. I've had it for years on steam and forgot about it. Such a good game.

EvertonFC91d ago (Edited 91d ago )

Fantastic game,.so underated

Cacabunga91d ago

Yes great game spec ops! Since the time we’ve been asking sony to make one:/

Auto Modelista.. a PS2 capcom racer!! A blast to play and great graphics!
Maximo!
Rival Schools!

LordoftheCritics91d ago

Spec Ops: The Line was super dark.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend90d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long91d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons91d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor91d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens5290d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey60290d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor91d ago

I have quite a few of these. Timed licenses suck.

Terry_B90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled165d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa165d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno164d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac164d ago (Edited 164d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast164d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial164d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!

Battlefield Legacy - Sunsetting Announcement

EA: "As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company™ 1 & 2, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end."

This reminds me... I have ME on my PS3 hdd. Never really played it, but it was free.

XiNatsuDragnel429d ago

Digital future ppl is good they say nope imo

Eidolon428d ago

And it still says nothing about being able to downloaded even when it's off the storefront, that's a huge ouchie for some who somehow still have it in their backlog...

Shane Kim428d ago

Dont make it an issue when it's not. If you haven't played it in 15 years, chances are you'll never play it.

isarai429d ago

That all digital future sure looks great!

/s

zidane1341429d ago (Edited 429d ago )

Online game servers shut off eventually all the time. Doesn’t matter if you have the disc or not. Even if you have the disc, it’ll be just paperweight unless the game lets you connect directly to a friend or LAN play.

isarai429d ago (Edited 429d ago )

Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.

zidane1341429d ago

@israrai, you can still buy the disc for less then 10$. Hardly a loss.

TheEnigma313429d ago

You shouldn't have to buy the disc, that's the issue.

OhReginald428d ago (Edited 428d ago )

Some brilliant minds created servers to keep these old online games alive. A lot of ps2 and ps3 games that had there servers shut down a long time ago have been restored by fans to keep it going. Warhawk, killzone 2, socom 2/ confrontation, resident evil outbreak series, etc.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 428d ago
DankSinatra428d ago

The disc still exist. I don’t understand the issue. You guys are upset about that “all digital future” yet these games are not “digital only”. Hell digital only is a minority in the gaming world and so far we haven’t moved into it, the only digital only games are games as a service or online only games, which end up failing in the end.

This is no different than a store that stops selling old games, just go and buy a copy somewhere else. So which is it, you hate all digital or you like it? Make up your mind.

isarai428d ago

Talk about missing the point entirely. I'm not going to sit here and explain it to you, figure it out.

DankSinatra428d ago

Talk about whining about something and not wanting to explain from an off handed sarcastic original comment.

I got the point just fine. You’re literally complaining about something that has an easy alternative to it.

ManMarmalade428d ago

I don't think you got the point

DankSinatra428d ago (Edited 428d ago )

@ManMarmalade

No I got it, it has to do with the push towards a future of all digital and reprocussions of losing games. Something I already stayed that hasn’t happened nor is it large enough right now to cause any issues as the games that are all digital are online only to begin with or make up the minority of games

So I’ll say it again, the disc still exists for these games that are over a decade old and can still be played easily. You guys are contradicting the whole “we don’t want a digital only future” crying when the dude I originally responded to stated:

“Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.“

So again, which is it? Do you hate all digital or do you want it?

Inverno429d ago

On PC I don't think it's much of a problem but I'm sad to see BF43 being shut down. I haven't played it in a while since it's stuck on PS3, but i preferred it way more over BF3. It was the lack of invisible barriers which made it better for me.

badz149429d ago

BFBC2 was still the best overall package offered by the franchise so far IMO

porkChop428d ago

Absolutely. BC2 was such a great game. It's a shame we never got BC3.

P_Bomb428d ago

I had a great run on Bad Company 2. Pound for pound, as solid a BF package as there’s been.

InUrFoxHole429d ago

Does anyone play the last BF anymore? I searched crossplay servers and it was 20 people the most on all the servers? Can never find a game

SonyStyled429d ago

The last BC you mean? I was still able to find 10v10 on ps3 2 years ago on NA servers during the evenings. I have all the free and paid dlc installed, but there want any matches in the Vietnam dlc.
