Who created the best new Intellectual Property in gaming this year?
yeha,, FINALY gt make the rigth choice in years.
Demon's Souls got my vote.
It should have been: Batman: Arkham Asylum Borderlands Brutal Legend Demon's Souls inFamous. My vote goes to Batman though, it's the only one I played this year.
Demon's Souls definitely deserved it
Personally can't say enough good things about that game
Demon Soul is just Amazing, this game deserve more recognition
But Batman's not a new IP. It's a new take on an old IP. But that doesn't make it a new IP.
Good for Demon Soul's. But my favorite new IP goes to inFAMOUS in my opinion.
this game is great, everyone should at least try it out more than an hour
people really should. it really becomes addictive. the game can be hard, the i think it just has a high learning curve. took me a few hours and two characters for me to really get into the game.
GOTY is Batman: Arkham Asylum. The most entertaining, impressive and freshest gaming experience of the year without a doubt.
im going with no. the actual game play mechanics of Batman werent very good. the story, voice acting, graphics, sound, art and character design where all great. i just didnt like playing the actual game.
Well, if you don't have a PS3 and by that you don't play Uncharted 2, so your gaming experience is limited, well I probably say you're right NO! UC2 is AWESOME GOTY 2009 = Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
http://www.youtube.com/watc... demon soul's is more refreshing in it's own genre than batman. LOL
the director wants a sequel but we probably won't see one loved this game. platinum'd it. took 2 months. a lot of luck. and deaths.
Well deserved win. Nice to see this awesome game getting an award.
What is going on here? I feel like these sites are starting to like, tell the actual truth and stuff... Nah, that's just crazy.
God forbid that the "truth" isn't the same as your opinion, right?
What ruffled your feathers mate? I happen to aggree on both points concerning KZ2 & Demon's souls. Two of the most awesome games of 09. If you don't like it, feel free to take a long walk off of a short pier. Or better yet, go play in traffic blindfolded... whatever floats your boat. :P
You were telling him to go commit suicide! You sly devil...
But you see opinion and facts can be one in the same. For example graphics. While pixels and framrate are fact artstyle and feel are opinion. It is no different with games. Fact Demons Souls is hard, RPG, dark Opinion Demons Souls is great, good story, nice feel. To reconize both fact and opinion takes some skill. While I fully agree Demons Souls is a brilliant new IP, I wasn't too taken by Killzone 2 but I do see it's appeal. I though the graphics where outstanding, the feel was brilliant but the online only hooked me for well a month and I suddenly dropped it. But I am not disagreeing with it I can defendtly see where he is coming from.
At least some people know how to NOT come off as a total knob.
I wasn't trying to be a knob, you were acting as if there was an objective answer to a subjective opinion. Did I say I disagreed with you liking DS or K2? No. In fact, I like both games too. No you didn't "ruffle my feathers", but it's pretty obvious that your feathers are ruffled since you essentially told me to commit suicide for, get this, saying something different than you. @Mr V Technical graphics is pretty objective, but the point I am trying to make is that he implies the "truth" is DS and K2 are the correct answer, as if stating anything else is wrong. The whole idea of nominating and awarding games in categories is largely based on subjective consensus. For example, GT may say DS is best new IP but GS says inFamous is best new IP. I just find it ironic that in past years PS3 fans have been criticizing the media for being biased, yet when they favor the PS3, it's all of a sudden "telling the truth"
Demon's Souls deserves all of the recognition and praise that it has received. A brilliant game that proves word of mouth can go a long way in determining sales.
I second that motion. Demon's Souls completely blew me away, never disappointed, and greatly exceeded my expectations. Two big thumbs up to FROM Software.
good to see Demon Soul's kicking butt in and out of the game, i do wish they would found someone to publish it for uk already be a killer here.
Demon's Souls deserves it by far. Brilliant game.
Demon's Souls is an actual game that requires true skill and patience, which is why it has received little to no recognition. How is it that this game sits at an 89 on Metacritic while GTA4 is a 98?? Demon's Souls is easily one of the best games this generation and the past twenty years. Only older, mature, patient, hardcore gamers will understand how complex and ridiculously well crafted this game is. Any award given to this game is well deserved. Between Killzone 2, inFamous, Demon's Souls, and Uncharted 2, SONY absolutely killed it this year.
Demons souls is the first real challenge I had in a video game for the past three generations. Most games these days I can beat in one sitting with little to no effort at all. Its a disgrace if you ask me. People always like the easy way out.
I simply can not abide with you only having 3 bubbles Bubbles up mate +1!
Because although it's the first in its series, it is another Batman Game. Otherwise, I definitely think it would have gotten the nomination.
also is very hard to say disagree to this vote GREAT WORK!
I wish more developers dare to take this dangerous approach of giving us hard games. The feeling of accomplishment after defeating each boss is really satisfying, especially if you do it alone. Dare I dream of a Demon's Souls sequel ?
Yeeeeeusss yuss yuss yuss yuss yuss.
Guys, is Demon's Souls harder than Ninja Gaiden Sigma?
I dunno, that depends on how many times you die from a single blow from an enemy.
Not even close to NGS or DMC3 difficulty, anyone who says differently hasn't played all the games or for some reason sucks at DS. Of course, DS isn't a hack-and-slash either. The difficulty in DS will diminish VERY quick once you learn the game and enemy strategies. It remains challenging, but not to the level you were probably expecting or started out thinking it would be after playing a few hours. Something like NGS/DMC3 is difficult, not just because it requires those same skills/tactics, but also because the game is very cheap at times. You will never feel that way playing DS. If you die, it's your fault and you will know that without being left wondering "what the hell was that bs?" Another thing to note is that DS has no difficulty settings. It gets harder on New Game+, but for me the game felt far easier. One, your gear and stats (especially magic, which is overpowered later on) will be much better and outpace the difficulty, and two, you will know all the strategies. Great game, and I agree with it being the best new IP, but it was far closer than some people are saying (in my opinion, at least). Other games I feel are really close (didn't watch the video) are Infamous, Dragon Age and Batman, all great games, and if all four of these games get sequels, which I'm guessing they will, I will buy them all.
It's difficulty is really similar to the 8bit megaman games. you die a lot until you figure out a level and then after that you can ussually run through a level fairly quickly. although in Demon's Souls, once you've gotten use to the game mechanics it's quite possible to get through levels your first time without dieing so long as you come prepared and take it slow. After I beat a few levels I was able to go through most of the game without dieing, you just have to be patient and take your time. there is a really good description of the difficulty here you should check it out its pretty amusing as well. http://www.reddit.com/r/gam...
Ok, ok, that was not the most informative post. If you've played Demon's Souls and didn't quit, then you already know why it got this award. It's tough, addictive, and rewarding, and holds very high replay value. It also wove in a very well crafted multiplayer mode that seemed to come completely out of left field.
My vote was inFamous, but it's nice to see a game as challenging as Demon's Souls to take it home.
Demons Souls is truly amazing and a experience every one should give a try!
Demon's Souls is amazing, a sequel is what I want more than any other game! Except maybe a BlazBlue sequel which I would love just as much!
Demon's soul is the real GOTY for me, it does something that most developper forgot:A GAME! it's not trying to be a movie like experience like alot of games that are trying to and a lot don't deliver it very well but a pure 100% game at its finest no fancy acting, no big budget celebs involved, no hyperbole, no smokes'n'mirrors (all in glorious ingame), and most important fun.
I would have chosen Infamous but Demon Souls was a close second for me. Good win for Atlus!
