Its going to cuz that's what its striving for!

Babadook71d 12h ago

Yeah the plan is sometime next year to get FSR4 quality. Possibly even an updated version of that.

DivineHand1251d 2h ago

This is good for those who invested in the PS5 Pro. I just hope it doesn't require the devs to go back and update there games to take advantage.

@Babadook7 what is your source for those claims about the update coming next year at or better quality than FSR4?

I read the article and watched the PSSR section Moore's law is dead video and he never made those claims. Is there some new source or are you making stuff up?

Eonjay21h ago

@DivineHand125

Mark Cerney is the source for the 2026 update... as far as better than FSR 4... than it's current iteration? Sure maybe. I think that's the point of the collaboration. Both are supposed to get better.

I wonder how different it would've been if they had a Nvidia APU with DLSS

RaiderNation1d 19h ago

PSSR will get there. It's already made huge strides since the Pro launched last year.

Brazz1d 19h ago

3 point.
1. It would be more expensive than AMD solution, way more expensive.
2. It Would, likely, fail to delivery BC with PS4.
3. Sony Would not be using Ryzen CPUs. PS5 would be using much weaker CPU, maybe even ARM.

Imho, Sony going with NVidia would be a disaster, PS5 would be weaker (at least CPU side) and more expensive. AMD is Just better for a APU for the great GPU/CPU combo. Also, FSR 4.0 is almost as good as DLSS 4.

crazyCoconuts1d 17h ago

Also they wouldn't be able to pull off backwards compatibility as easily

anast1d 17h ago

It would be double the price or even triple.

dantesparda1d 13h ago

PSSR tends to be sharper than DLSS in motion but exhibits more noise/artifacting when standing still.

darthv721d 12h ago

Both MS and Sony have used Nvidia for graphics... they ended up going AMD since because they deliver a better cost effective option.

Notellin1d 12h ago

Thankfully we'll never have to find out.

All we want to is stop having to choose between fidelity and performance mode. I thought that was the entire reason for PS5 Pro

DivineHand1251d 2h ago

I don't know about you but I want the tech to force titles stuck at 30 fps or 60 fps to achieve higher frame rates without needing a developer to update their games. Sadly, this will not happen because the console environment is closed and they want to leave the door open for remasters down the road.

Kyizen1d 15h ago

Sony helped AMD with FSR 4.0 so I am sure PSSR is using features from it.

Destiny10801d 12h ago

the results for FSR 4 are pretty much perfect, no ghosting / clear Image Quality / More Frames / Digital foundry showed a before & after of a waterfall which was a massive leap over previous FSR efforts

PSSR according to mark cerny will greatly improve over the coming years

Game looks great but only runs decent on my high end PC. There are certain maps that also struggle my framerates. UE5 is simply known as just running horrible on current hardware and many devs just don't do a great job at optimization. UE5 looks great but honestly, there are plenty of games the last couple of generations that look just as good if not better and run amazing 100+ framerates on current hardware.

LucasRuinedChildhood12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

UE5 has clear issues but there is almost no nuance about it online. Games like Expedition 33, The Talos Principle 2, Robocop, Wukong, etc show how it does allow small or less experienced teams to punch way above their weight. I suspect it helped Blooper Team a lot with developing the Silent Hill 2 remake as well and upping their game as a studio.

It allows for easier game development in general. The Oblivion remaster is so far beyond what Bethesda can do with the Creation Engine. lol.

Part of the reason that Alan Wake 2 took a while to start generating a profit is because they have to spend a lot of money maintaining their Northlight engine. Game would have been much more profitable with UE5 so if people want custom engines to stay around from moderately sized teams, please at least support teams like Remedy.

isarai9m ago(Edited 1m ago)

Some games suit it better than others, especially if the devs modify it with bespoke optimizations. But the majority of cases are just drag and dropped into UE5 just raw dogging the rendering pipeline at default making most of them look nearly identical. Not to mention the stuttering and inconsistent performance issues especially in open world settings

Tbf i think it's great for smaller games, but AAA games with hundreds of millions at hand should easily be able to create their own engines to better suit their needs
