WTMG's Fernando da Costa: "The Legend of Legacy has ideas that I fully support, but the execution has it firmly sitting in the mildly above average category. The major deterrent is the absence of a storyline. It’s the definition of loose, and no amount of exercise will help it tighten. As a JRPG fanatic, it pains me to say this jaunt is unremarkable. I don’t care to come back. It’s a pump and dump, but hey, at least this one-night stand is serviceable. I thought that the jiggle physics was a sign of that patented NIS America humour, but I was mistaken. If you were to look into a lens and compare what’s basically plain gameplay to the stellar look, it’s evident that it’s lopsided. All of the surrounding aspects just don’t do it justice. I’d truthfully regret spending full price on this game."
Gary Green said: I promise I’ll get around to playing The Alliance Alive one day. It’s in my queue. I’ll get to it eventually. Perhaps this surprise re-release of its spiritual predecessor, Legend of Legacy, will give me some encouragement to bump it up my priority list. I do have concerns though; you see, Legend of Legacy was criticised for its high difficulty, something that progressionists like myself tend to frown upon.
Despite some small amount of praise, 2015/16 JRPG The Legend of Legacy appearing exclusively on a rival handheld console didn’t do it any favors with PlayStation players. Still, all things come to those who wait, and like spiritual successor The Alliance Alive, The Legend of Legacy has now received the big-screen HD makeover treatment. Has it discovered a new home on PlayStation, and more importantly, was it worth the wait?
"The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered is a decent, though unspectacular, dungeon crawler that does a good job of defying some traditional RPG tropes. Mechanics like the elemental system and the randomized character progression help this stand out from the pack, while its simple dungeon-crawling format carries the basic, but satisfying gameplay for dozens of hours. Still, it doesn’t take very long for this one to feel like it’s overstaying its welcome, and more could’ve been done to sand its rougher edges.
