Dragon’s Dogma 2 Post-Launch Update Detailed, 30 FPS Limit Planned For Consoles

Capcom has shared plans for their post-launch support for Dragon’s Dogma 2 including confirming a 30 FPS limit for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.

What does 30fps limit even mean? The fps getting better? Because that part of the game is a mess and unbearable to play on Concoles

CrimsonWing6932d ago (Edited 32d ago )

Probably the opposite of uncapped. They probably get a stable framerate limiting it to 30 fps. Honestly, 30 fps isn’t a big deal. I typically play all games on graphics mode and my eyes adjust to it after like an hour or so. It’s only jarring hopping between 30 to 60 fps.

MeteorPanda32d ago

if you play the magic spear when you run with it on your back you can literally see the frames at the edges when you run. lol

Psychonaut8532d ago

Yeah if it’s evenly frame paced you get used to it. But right after switching from 60 it looks like a stop motion movie for a little while. Takes a bit for the “movie magic” to kick in.

Locked is much better better than fluctuating between 20s and 30s. I hope they develop a 40 fps mode. That be great if the pro could manage to hit that after optimisation

Ironmike32d ago

Is it I haven't had many problems on my ps5 some hiccups but nothing major

isarai32d ago

Hopefully optional, im fine with uncapped as long as the VRR works

mkis00732d ago

Vrr doesnt work under 40 fps.which is where this game is.

sweatyrich32d ago

PS5 has a lower rate of 48FPS for VRR. Anything below that and VRR isn't working (unless it's running in a 120fps container)

--Onilink--32d ago

@sweatyrich

Even on a 120hz container it doesnt work. For some reason Sony hasnt implemented Low Framerate Compensation for whenever a game drops below the VRR window like the Xbox does.

The exception is some (maybe all, not sure) Insomniac games, but because they did it in the game side directly (plus offering more performance modes than any other game haha).

Its really annoying that Sony doesnt do anything about. With so many games having really horrible IQ in performance mode these days, LFC would be a great feature to add

isarai32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

It does if the game allows it, as in they have to enable it on the game side, and it very much works in dragons dogma 2

ModsDoBetter32d ago

How do you stop flickering on PS5 with VRR? It happens on COD, DD2 and a few other games for me. Some games work, but I have to turn it off more often than not to stop the flicker.

--Onilink--32d ago

Its not related to the PS5, its because of the TV/Monitor you are using.

Some newer TVs have certain features that help minimize it, and you should only see it really in near black scenarios (otherwise its probably a TV that does VRR really badly), but even on my G3 OLED I still have near black flickering in VRR in certain content, for Alan Wake for example I had to disable VRR and just set a framerate cap (it was on PC), or I ocassionally see it in loading screens since they also represent the most typical black/near black scenarios where it shows the most

isarai32d ago

I would check to see if you have some "black frame insertion" setting on. I know my TV does that if i enable "OLED True Motion" so i would try tweaking your motion/smoothness settings where you would turn on things like interpolation/smooth motion.

ModsDoBetter31d ago

@Oni

I have an LG B9 I use on occasion but I mainly game on my Aorus FV43U. VRR worked fine when I had my Series X, only PS seems to have the issue.

It's not that bad since I can just turn it off and have a great experience, but would be handy if it didn't flicker.

Hopefully my next monitor won't have the issue! Cheers for the response.

Kaii32d ago

Pathetic, It should've launched in this state.

DivineHand12532d ago

I like what I am seeing with these updates. I hope they continue to optimize the game in short order.

There are 2 things we should never see in a modern game. No performance mode and no option to turn off motion blur.

Psychonaut8532d ago

Should have been this way at launch, but won’t really solve things. Cuz the game tanks to in the 20s regularly in towns, a 30 frame cap does nothing to solve that.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a great game, but only if you take your time

Alex writes: "I have a habit of trying to rush through games, so Dragon's Dogma 2 was a nice reminder that taking it slow isn't the end of the world."

Review - Dragon's Dogma 2 (Xbox Series X) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Jordan Hawes: "Dragon’s Dogma 2 is exactly what I wanted; an updated sequel that still hold true to what made the first game so beloved. While it may not be perfect with its lack luster visuals and performance, it more than makes up for in deep gameplay and addicting exploration. The Pawn system still remains one of the coolest party systems in an RPG, and I love the dynamic feel of them. This is absolutely a game of the year contender and may be my personal game of the year already."
