As is they're coins down a sofa, some announced games seem to just disappear. So just where are these missing VR games?
Psychological horror MADiSON VR from Bloodious Games and Perp Games is finally coming to PSVR 2 and PCVR this May.
yeah, we haven't heard this before :P
that being said, let's hope this time the release date finally sticks. Looking forward to playing this in VR.
From the devs regarding the last delay. 120 FPS native with high quality shadows.
"Our ambition is to create a realistic and daunting atmosphere with MADiSON VR. And we achieved this through realistic real-time lighting and shadows. These elements heavily utilise the CPU on all
platforms. To make this possible in VR, we use a technique called "Single-Pass Rendering" so that resource- heavy operations are only done once per frame. Unfortunately, our use of this previously precluded us from also using the eye-tracked dynamic foveated rendering (DFR) feature on PSVR 2, as the Unity PSVR 2 implementation had a known issue with this combination. Without DFR, it would have only been possible to release using the 60/120 (interpolation) mode, which worked adequately, however we always felt fell a little short of the quality we were striving for. As of 22nd March Unity's new SDK-now opens up DFR and by extension the possibility to hit the gohz mode. A last minute
improvement we simply can't ignore."
Unity fixing this issue is good news for PSVR2 in general.
Saber Interactive has announced MudRunner VR for Meta Quest headsets, bringing the off-roader into VR soon.
Nice! It's a shame that it has to be on the dumbest common denominator on the Quest though. I use a Quest2, but would much prefer being able to max out the graphics on Steam. I'm not looking to upgrade to a Quest3 at the moment.
It is clear PSVR2 should have taken the stand alone approach with optional PS5 connectivity for those who own a PS5 to get those few premium titles that exist as 95% of the VR titles out there are stand alone quest versions. That would have bridged two markets. I just don't think Sony have the appetite to run another platform outside of the PS5 though.
Farbridge's upcoming VR RTS Homeworld: Vast Reaches will be available for Meta Quest headsets from 2nd May 2024.
There wont be enough demand until the tech gets better and more affordable.
For GTA SA
Meta made a lot of budget cuts and cancelled a fair few exclusive game contracts we don't know if this was cancelled but it's possible and this was announced prior to the release of GTA definitive edition which was slammed and eventually moved to be supported in house by Rockstar.
Since then we have just gotten the mobile versions a d they are actually the best way to play the definitive edition unfortunately the consoles never got a retrospective patch to implement the improvements they made in the mobile games.
But for VR we know a VR mode was found in the definitive editions game files thanks to data miners so seeming it was meant to be using the definitive edition as a base given its ue4 that makes sense. And the mode is there right now (some Polish may be required still) I would assume this is ready to go but meta got cold feet and cancelled it given the games reputation.
I do hope Rockstar forge ahead and still just launch it anyway on psvr2 as it's a game I've loved since day 1 on PS2 I'll even tolerate the de version to get it in VR
