Microsoft Rewards Xbox Game Pass Quests Get Big Downgrade

Xbox players are receiving fewer points for completing quests through the Microsoft Rewards program.

The drop in points for completing the "Earn an Achievement in Game Pass" quest is significant, going from +50 points to +5 points.

While these changes are new, some users have noted a decline in the Microsoft Rewards program over the past few months, suggesting that further adjustments may be made in the future.

Wow man, MS Rewards went from one of the best things in gaming to absolute garbage in the last few months. Can't believe how much they've screwed this program over in such a short period of time... I used to be very vocal about how much I loved it too.

theindiearmy169d ago (Edited 169d ago )

There are people who love this program, and I'm just sitting here remembering how this program replaced the "Get $10 for pre-ordering Popular Game X." and thinking how MS Rewards program is absolutely horse doo-doo compared to that which it replaced. This program was never good compared to what we had before it.

GamerRN169d ago

I still earn $10 in rewards every 1 to 2 months, so honestly I love it...

crazyCoconuts169d ago

Why would they do this? Can these points be used to buy things?

BeHunted169d ago (Edited 169d ago )

Yeah, with Microsoft Points you have an option to buy Amazon Gift Cards, Microsoft/Xbox Gift Cards, Skype Unlimited - 1 month etc.., basically everything.

Microsoft Rewards still offers value. With Bing you can still earn well over 1000 points per week, you only need 5.8k points to redeem Microsoft £5 gift cards. That's still excluding Xbox Quests

Crows90169d ago

Ummm not sure why nobody is mentioning you can get Gamepass for PC for about 7k points.

Basically Gamepass free for life on PC.

crazyCoconuts169d ago

Ah, that's the reason then. They want you to use more of your real money to buy things

XiNatsuDragnel170d ago

Congratulations Microsoft just making something fun into a chore imo

This change sucks more for the people that were just casually collecting points here and there. For the ones that farm points, it's much less impactful as those 1500 monthly points were some of the hardest to get either way. Still, it sucks that the rewards program is getting less value in pretty much every new update.

CrimsonWing69169d ago

Well, they did drop a chunk of change on a recent acquisition. Gotta start saving somewhere.

DarXyde169d ago

Yep. And that is why both consumers and the labor force should be worried.

Changes to their existing rewards programs? Changes in pricing structure? Having to walk back stripping Microsoft employees of one of their benefits? Deep investment in AI? It's looking a little bleak.

I fully understand needing to make adjustments because they wanted to be the BlackRock of gaming, but they also didn't *need* to make the acquisition either. They wanted to. How they save money will be the greater concern. Keep in mind that ~$70B is the initial investment cost. The prolonged legal battles (and if we're being honest, highly probable regulator money hatting), maintenance of studios/pubs, and XGP Day One strategy is really going to bleed money. Studio gutting is very likely going to occur in favor of AI to reduce costs.

Sony and Nintendo may consider AI going forward too which concerns me quite a bit. I would love to avoid this by having studios release less demanding games with shorter dev cycles smaller teams, and less focus on AAA development budgets. Those can come here and there, but let's keep people employed, yeah? It's hard out there for many people

Rimeskeem169d ago

Oh nice, so them buying stuff means other stuff gets worse?

Outside_ofthe_Box169d ago

Phil Spencer was unaware of this change. He's looking into getting it reversed.

The only PlayStation dev I care about tbh.

Cacabunga10h ago

Hopefully doesn’t take them a complete gen to release it

TheColbertinator4h ago

Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

I too like to look for things in the wrong places.

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

banger881d 7h ago

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb198118h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein16h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.

Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition Reneges on Promised Content Behind $250 Price Tag

The new Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition has the community in an outrage after promising exclusive access to the new PvE mode for $250 USD.

Christopher1d 7h ago

$250? Do they not know all the other games that already exist or will be made in the future that can do similar?

SimpleDad22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

This is for the hardcore people that have 2500 h in the game. They basically play that one game the whole year.
Oh and those same people are mad as hell at this... what a way to reward fans of your game and annihilate newcomers.

Read a comment earlier calling it a "special monetization operation." I had to chuckle at that.
