Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:
"Star Ocean as a series has been a bit of a strange one for Square Enix. Throughout the years they have released a number of enhanced versions of the original couple of games in the series alongside more ambitious, if flawed, new entries. In fact, a new Star Ocean game arrived just last year with The Divine Force following a six year gap after Integrity and Faithlessness. Still, this blend of sci-fi and fantasy RPG has had its shares of ups and downs but perhaps its highest point that any fan of the franchise, even for those that haven’t touched another entry in the series, is Star Ocean: The Second Story. This beloved RPG arrived in 1999 and was even given a PSP enhanced release a decade later in 2009. Now, looking to deliver perhaps the definitive version of this beloved RPG, Gemdrops and Square Enix have released Star Ocean: The Second Story R to the delight of fans, but does this classic RPG still deliver?"
A new Square Enix March 2024 Switch eShop sale is up and running with the lowest prices ever for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, Paranormasight, Star Ocean: The Second Story R, and more.
CCG writes - "On a technical level, Star Ocean 2 R takes all that was good about the original game and polishes it to a mirror sheen. Coupled with an immense amount of quality of life and rebalancing decisions to make this classic game accessible to both old-time and modern gamers, I cannot recommend it highly enough."
Square Enix, Tri-Ace and Gemdrops' role-playing game, Star Ocean The Second Story R has achieved over 2,000 "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam.
Beat it. Great game. I have to replay it though so I can fight Gabriel without the limiter. I missed the damn cutscene the first time. I'm also in love with the OST at the bottom of the Maze of Tribulations.
The game is great buy it !
