I would kill, and i mean kill, for a remake of this, if the rumour of Bluepoint games doing it is true it would be a dream come true for me personally as i am a massive MGS fanboy.

If Bluepoint aren't doing the MGS3 remake, and they're not, it's highly unlikely they're working on MGS1. If the MGS3 remake does well however, I bet they do MGS1 next, Virtuous Studios or whoever it is.

Here, here! You've got my praise, mate! (Also a MG fanboy. 100%'d every mainline game and I'm not ashamed to say I've done it at least twice per numbered entry. Also bought into the obscure media like the Ray Benson novel, Ghost Babel, and a pricey Solidus figurine). Snake Eater remains my favorite game of all time.

Ok, getting a bit to excited here. I'd love to see a remake, but it's really gotta be done right. Get all of that glorious licensed footage back, don't overdo the cutscenes as they did in Twin Snakes and it'll be golden.

Fun fact that no one cares about but me: Snake Eater actually got me to take up two hobbies I still indulge at times: hunting and acoustic guitar—I discovered Starsailor and I was obsessed with learning Way to Fall; from there followed The Best is Yet to Come, Old Snake, Life's End, Here's to you, and one I'm not great with yet: Love Detterence (it works best as a duet and the day I find someone to do that with, I'm marrying them 😂)

... That was a lot of information. I love these games so much.

Thats awesome mate, i could talk Metal Gear all day long, everything about the series is just stunning, i remember being stuck on Meryl's codec frequency for ages and it was actually my Mum who discovered it on the back of the case LOL.

And Psycho Mantis has to be one of gamings best boss battles, having to change controller ports, him reading your mind and game data and then the reveal of his face and hearing a human side to his tortured soul made you feel sorry for him.

I could go on and on and just talk about it all day long as i said, i just pray that the Bluepoint rumours are true of them remaking it, we will find out when Sony do their proper PS5 showcase.

Psycho Mantis is iconic. I laughed hysterically in MGS4 when he tried erasing your progress. Peak Kojima humour 😂

Also, slight error I made in last post: I haven't 100'd The Phantom Pain. I think there are a few missions that I've yet to S rank. I should get back to that.

I often forget Sony owns BP. I'm genuinely curious to see what they revive next. If they do Metal Gear Solid, I have zero doubt that it'll be a very faithful retelling.

I hope they remake Metal Gear 1 and 2 first though.

This series is now more like watching someone suffering from main character syndrome with an ego go out of check and has run amok (even going as far to place himself in his own games… ew.), until it hits a lead wall.

My favorite part of the series is the one where he pretended to be working and made a side project with someone else’s money. Total espionage cringe action.

Aside from Hideo shitting in his own pool, MG3 is insanely well done and some of THE TEAM’S best work.

All these classics are either passed or closely approaching 25 years old. Terrifying since I remember playing them when they were new.

Ridge Racer Type 4 approaches the quarter century on its Japanese release. Crash Bandicoot 3. Spyro. There's three more of not just the best Playstation games made, but some of the best games ever. Old old old. Wonder what videogame history will think of them when they're 50 years old. Halfway there.

Also now 25 years old you have Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, Medievil, Vigilante 8, Resident Evil 2, Colin Mcrae Rally, Need for Speed III. Xenogears. Street Fighter Alpha 3. The OG Rainbow Six. F-Zero X. All fantastic.

Tomb Raider 3 and Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus are both 25 years old in November. Rogue Squadron came out December 1998.

THE DREAMCAST is 25 years old counting from the Japanese release. I remember playing on an import machine at Christmas 1998.

1998 was a great year.

The golden age of gaming my friend, i am honoured and proud to have been at my peak of gaming during those times and experienced it all, it makes me upset i can never go back to those days.

ProjectVulcan188d ago

I distinctly remember having a discussion with a friend Christmas 1998. Which was better: Half Life or Metal Gear Solid. My case was MGS. His was Half Life. Then one Nintendo friend barged into this heated argument and said Ocarina of Time.

These three games all launched in the period of one month at the tail end of 1998. That truly was the golden age and while we can't go back we always have the memories!

@ProjectVulcan

Yep 3 of the best games ever made, all unique and perfect in their own way.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 Review - Duuro

Duuro says: "I still like that this Master Collection exists, despite its flaws. It's definitely a time-capsule and if you are hungry to experience the brilliant stealth-action saga on modern consoles, you will find much to love. But you still have to remember that this is just a re-release and what was good back then in terms of controls, might feel rather alien nowadays."

I’d have taken a few of those out. Prefer Sonic over Sonic 2. Outrun should be in there. Maybe even Pong as millions of people had fun with that even if it was repetitive. Final Fight pipped any Streets of Rage game, although Streets of Rage had the better soundtrack. Too many to list l guess. To me, retro gaming is the 1980s, maybe going into early 1990s.

Agree that the generational gap is too broad to really make a strong list. Need to tighten the years a bit. Hard to compare Pac Man with N64 games.
