SSD speeds so quick you could open a door in PS Home to walk your Avatar through a portal to launch a game.

They could do something like Peach's Castle in Mario 64 and your library of titles are the portraits

There's still IMVU and Second Life but they're not quite like PS Home. Btw folks the Home restoration project is still going and they have brought Home back online through the PS3 emulator. So if y'all interested in goin back HOME there's that.

It was trash 🗑️ and it still is. Walking around to go into stores etc is cringe and makes no sense at all. The hype around metaverse is totally overblown

As good as it was It missed the opportunity of becoming huge... Imagine if just eat or similar and you could order food from within checking out menus of local restaurants, Or items direct from Amazon etc whilst in shop in game checking out the items in real time, or even clothes from your favourite shops. The thing could have been Enormous ! I realise it could be dangerous in over spending but hell kids max out parents cards on fortnite, just need to keep control of them.

Jim Ryan is right when he talks about PS Home being ahead of its time and it's sad to see that Sony missed the boat with bringing it back for PSVR2.
It could have been a good alternative to Meta's world and would have been a hub that created a BUZZ for PlayStation products.
Something that Meta can't do due to not having lots of established IP.

Now Playstation Home was amazing. Truly ahead of its time. There is still a very dedicated fan base even to this day that wants to bring it back. Some guys even brought it back through emulation servers.

If I wasn’t playing actual games I would always hang out ind PS shone.

Most of my friends list is from Home, and still speak to some still to this day.

All the personal spaces you could own, the public spaces like the beach, and games you could play like bowling. Watching movies in the theater or in your personal space with friends. Truly PS Home was ahead of the times.

I definitely agree. The thing is Sony has always been ahead of the curve. Playing music CD's on PS1, DVD, PS2 Eye Toy, PS Home Blue Rays on PS3 hell even 3D games but everyone looks the other way when Sony innovates and never gets the proper recognition I believe they deserve through all these years.

Playing music CDs on the PS1 was not ahead of the curve. The TurboGrafx 16 CD was the first console that used CDs and it played music CDs too. The Sega CD was next and it also played music CDs. The Eyetoy doesn't get credit, because it didn't work well amd once the novelty wore off within 30 mins, all 8 games that were released in N. America in its shortlived life were boring and terrible. PS Eye was worse in terms of support(I owned it). At that era, the Xbox Connect was far superior in tech and games(regarding games, that makes it far worse since Connect games were not great either)

If they make Home 2 they should allow scarescreen of any app including video. Nothing would be more awesome to watch a ufc fight with your buddies in your own virtual apartment. But of course this is just wishful thinking and Sony would never do anything this awesome.

16 player apartment lobbies while screen sharing and maybe others can hop in to a game if they're not watching the main screen. Too good.

Shoot, I was using this when it first came out in 2008 and then sporadically for several years. Sometimes I watch old YouTube videos about it just to bring back memories. It was definitely way ahead of it's time. If it had come out now on the PS5 I think it would have been much more popular.

Playstation Home was amazing, and way too early, but still did things great.
I spent hundreds of hours there, with friends and friends to be, before joining a game of Warhawk, Resistance or Killzone.

A Playstation Home 2 with support for PSVR2 would be amazing, and with the tech available today, it could've done so much.

I actually agree with him on this one. I really liked PS Home but in the end it did get really slow to use. Taking a good minute or 2 to get from one area to another.

Being able to go in and play mini games like pool with friends as well as chess, arcade games.

I remember they promised a feature that never happend was being able to display your trophies in your apartment.

I honestly think PS Home would actually work today. With the fast SSD and power of the ps5. Can even have it support psvr2.

It always had potential to be something special, but sadly, it looked sterile and boring, the character-models and hub-world simply weren’t interesting, and there just wasn’t anything fun to do. You would just walk around a bit, wave at someone else, and that was it. It had some mini-games but even those weren’t much fun.

A game like Everybody’s Golf (RIP, thanks Sony … ) had a very nice character-creator where you had far more freedom to make an interesting avatar, and the whole Everybody’s World ‘look’ was just far more appealing.

Not sure what Sony was going for exactly with Home, unless I’m very cynical and they just assumed folks would simply pour money into their virtual home buying new clothing, apartment-items, whatever, simply because it existed, but there simply wasn’t any good reason for folks to hang out in Home. It didn’t look amazing, or even interesting, and there weren’t any cool activities or events.

It was an idea and perhaps they felt they would eventually build it into something epic, I don’t know.

I see huge potential in virtual worlds, but personally I’m then thinking of actual gaming worlds like a Cyberpunk, or the upcoming DokeV, which just have something to offer when you’re in those worlds.

There needs to be a purpose to it all. Not just an environment where you stand around and wave at each other. You need to want to ‘live’ there. Exist there.
