Xbox’s Phil Spencer Says Series S Changes to Baldur’s Gate 3 Aren’t About Parity

Changes to Baldur's Gate 3 on the Xbox Series S are disappointing to fans, but Head of Xbox Phil Spencer believes the console is important.

It's important because it sold way more than the x.

Jin_Sakai672d ago (Edited 672d ago )

The only reason Series S exist is to boost Xbox sales so they don’t look so bad. Funny thing is they still look bad.

QuantumMechanic672d ago

The Series S console exists to sell GamePass and to try to move the console market closer to a subscription-only business model.

EvertonFC672d ago (Edited 672d ago )

Agreed, series X would be below 10m in 3 years imo if it wasn't for the series S.
Starfield is their 1st game really in 3 years which is totally embarrassing in itself really.

sagapo672d ago

@Everton: so basicly you’re saying that MS made the right call launching the seriesS as it sells better than SeriesX (according to you)?

Sitdown672d ago

So in your mind, Microsoft ultimately created the Series S so they don't look so bad, and not because of it's ability to bring in profit, and funnel people to their bigger plan of GamePass. The ignorance of N4G never fails. If only you could take your feelings out it, and think along the lines of people running a successful company, not fanboy wars.

Jin_Sakai672d ago (Edited 672d ago )

@Sitdown

“If only you could take your feelings out it, and think along the lines of people running a successful company, not fanboy wars.“

If only you knew that developers hate dealing with Series S and have trouble getting their games running on it which are causing delays.

Rynxie672d ago

Oh you mean, so Ms can once again try and push their anti consumer policies? No wonder they're trying to buy up the industry as well.

I honestly wish Ms would leave the industry and another manufacturer can step in.

jznrpg671d ago

If it’s to pad numbers or sell gamepass subs either way it’s not working out so well.

S2Killinit671d ago

They are trying to leave them behind. Its insane!

shadowT672d ago

Xbox Series X owners can block now Series S in online fights, if needed. Bandai Namco just annouced this for the new Naruto game, according IGN report.

FinalFantasyFanatic672d ago

Wow, I'm surprised that's actually a thing, I see the point of doing it, but wow.

Popsicle672d ago

Wow! What a mess Xbox has created for themselves.

fr0sty671d ago

Now they're being forced to "quietly" abandon the parity clause, while denying that they actually are. "We've always had features in X games that weren't in S, like ray tracing!" ... sure, Phil, those were not gameplay features, they were graphical enhancements. There's an ocean of difference between that and something that actually affects the way the game is played, like removing split screen or being able to ban players from the S from interacting with players on X.

S2Killinit671d ago

Its crazy. All these people that bought into their representations…

gold_drake672d ago

gotta give it to Phil, delusions are a powerful thing indeed.

and of course the community is talking about it when a dev team has to cut an entire gamemode to make it work on the S.

InUrFoxHole672d ago

They didn't say it was impossible. They said they needed more time.

gerbintosh672d ago (Edited 672d ago )

Time MS wasn't willing to wait on. IMO I don't think the feature is coming to the Series S in the future. No point since the game would have already been released for a while and Series S customers would be used to not having it

InUrFoxHole671d ago

That's a fair assessment. MS painted themselves into a corner with the S and parity. I think they talked to devs prior to production and expected them to be able to do more with the tool kits. It's MS fault in the end. Make the tools you give devs easy to work with

TheLigX671d ago

He’s a corporate mouthpiece. It’s not delusion, it’s outright dishonesty. Dude is totally aware of his BS.

Destiny1080672d ago

180p split screen, was not feasible, hopefully are s friends wont be two disappointed

S2Killinit671d ago

He is trying to make it seem like the gamers are the ones pushing for it. In reality MS are doing something that they shouldn’t be allowed to do to consumers.

Former PlayStation Boss Says $80 Games Are Amazingly Affordable

PlayStation boss believes that $80 games are affordable due to the value they provide. Using Mario Kart as an example, he noted that it offers numerous hours of gameplay with just one purchase.

value inside the product does not have any impact on how afforable they are

Eonjay7h ago

He never said anything about affordability at all. He only commented about the perceived value that a game can have to a player that gets many hours out of it.

Again, as with many other forms of we are disrespected and lied to.

Title says Yoshida said $80 games are amazingly affordable. This is a lie.

CrimsonWing697h ago

Perceived value is subjective, so how do you even argue for it? If one person says $500 was worth it because they played a game for six months, what does that mean to someone who didn’t share that experience or see that value?

This is exactly where corporate thinking falls apart. The value is defined by them, and then they twist the logic to defend it from a purely internal, out-of-touch perspective.

I’ve never based the price of a game on how long I’ve played it. There’s a standard price range that consumers feel is fair. If it were truly based on time or value, Resident Evil 2 Remake would cost $20, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would be $1,000.

Eonjay4h ago

@Crimson

"Perceived value is subjective, so how do you even argue for it?Perceived value is subjective, so how do you even argue for it?"

I think his point is that it is subjective.

thorstein2h ago

Why is tech4gamers allowed to publish here. The lying is constant with them.

pwnmaster30001d ago

I get the concept.
People buy movies for $20-$30 dollars that offers only a couple of hours of enjoyment.
While games offers 3-10+ times the amount of hours and content.
So in theory yeah I get it.

But I will never accept it and would rather keep the price now or even better PS360 price lol

isarai23h ago

On the surface ye that makes sense, but when you realize the budgets are very comparable, you realize it's kinda stupid and overpriced especially when it common for it to be released unfinished

Extermin8or3_2h ago

Not really, movies that have similar budgets have the box office where if they arent a flop- they typically make all their money back or a profit. Movies have a much wider audience. Games however just have that release and have a smaller market.

PapaBop1h ago

Are many people buying movies for $20-$30? Outside of the more dedicated movie goers who have a physical collection, I imagine most rather scoff at that and stick to things like Netflix instead.

DivineHand12535m ago

You also have to take into consideration that most games are enjoyed by one or two people, while movies can be enjoyed by a group of people who are either friends or family.

Another thing is that the value of an entertainment product cannot be judged based on its length, but how it makes the user feel when it is all done.
An example of this is Ubisoft games. They can last close to or exceed 100 hours, yet many people hate on them for doing things to pad the length of the game, while Uncharted 4 and other Naughty Dog games average about 15 hours in length and are hailed as some of the best games of all time.

gold_drake12h ago

said by the guy who probably had a high 6 figure income

Petebloodyonion7h ago

The value of an $80 all-you-can-eat buffet is undeniable, making it curious why some people choose a $20 restaurant for a single, standard meal.

In a similar vein, movies, despite their higher production costs for a two-hour experience, outperform video games in revenue while also being priced around $20. Suggesting that video games need 100 hours of diluted gameplay to compete seems like a misdirection. The real solution might lie in re-evaluating how their core offering is valued.

Extermin8or3_2h ago

Individual movies yes, the movie industry as a whole? No, the movie industry is dwarfed by the behemoth in terms of revenue that gaming is.

FACTUAL evidence7h ago

Lol so rich people want to speak for my wallet now? I still haven’t adapted to 70$ yet, and not planing on to. I don’t mind waiting on sales.

I might get one in a couple years but I’m in no hurry. Nothing at launch I want to play.

GotGame8189h ago

60 fps Switch games with higher resolution makes it worth it to me.

badz1498h ago

you basically has no choice because it only has old games with ONE new exclusive and a scummy paid demo. old games are all you have and you fanboys are eating it up and let Nintendo get away with this.

PRIMORDUS1d ago

If there are no shortages then why can't we just easily order a Switch 2 online, from Best Buy, Target, Newegg, Amazon etc. No shortages means we can get it by any means, online or in store.

kindi_boy1h ago

move your ass to the nearest Target or Best Buy and you'll find a lot of them.

shinXseijuro1d 2h ago

Maybe there’s shortages in Japan ? But they’re pretty much available lol

shinXseijuro1d 2h ago

But hey saying that creates more hype right !

Good-Smurf11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

There isn't one in US, I saw plenty posting pictures of it many stores in still have plenty in stock.
This is just them referring to stock situation mostly in Japan.
Sounds like he low key also spreading FOMO pressuring people to go out and buy one for no good reason?
It's not exactly flying off the shelves here in Thailand though, there's basically no real hype here at all other than the fanboys lining up for it the first few days.
You can easily order one right now in Thailand from all the official authorized stores, not out of stock at all.
The price of 17800 THB or around 550 USD here for a standard SKU and high game prices probably has a lot to do with it.

badz1498h ago

the standalone Switch 2 is more expensive than the PS5 slim in Malaysia and just $2 cheaper than the Disc PS5 Slim. what a rip-off
