Lmao what a failure. Not even coming to Xbox players and not even dropping on PS5/next gen. $50 for straight up 30fps jank ports to last gen. Seems they learned nothing after the GTA remaster failure. Please do not support this lazy cash grab. What a complete insult to RDR fans everywhere. Rockstar has ascended to Activision level of lazy shoveling. Please vote with your wallets and do not support this kind of crap. In addition to a massive lack of RDR2 updates/next gen patching, RDR fans deserve better that what cash cow GTA milker Rockstar has given them.

Nitrowolf2263d ago (Edited 263d ago )

"Not even coming to Xbox players"
Because it's already on Xbox, like you said, this is literally a lazy as hell port of the original which the PS4 couldn't play since it lacked Backwards compatible.

This port is a full gen too late for what they're giving us, and the asking price. Yikes

It's like Rockstar learned absolutely nothing from the remakes. Sure this is a direct port, so it's not like it can get F'd up, but these technical restrictions and keeping it at 30fps, assume no res bump since it's PS4, like holy shit.

-Foxtrot263d ago

Sad part is if they gave us true remakes and put effort into them, you know since the main studios have hardly done f***** anything (GTAV & RDR2, that’s all) then they could have sold so many copies and would have had something inbetween their long main release gaps

Even with the GTA trilogy music issue, either pay for the licences again or replace the music with other music from the same time period.

Rockstar have become lazy and the people that blindly buys their MTs shit are mostly to blame for funding them.

bloop263d ago

Man, what the hell is going on at R*? Who's green lighting this shit?? How do you have the absolute disaster that was the trilogy remasters and then have this as your next release? I've absolutely zero faith in GTA 6 being any good at this stage.

JackBNimble263d ago (Edited 263d ago )

It's obviously a remaster not a remake of a 7th gen game.
So maybe they tried but couldn't justify bringing it to ps5, maybe it was to shitty to call current gen.
At least they didn't try to pull a fast one on this generation with a garbage game. And maybe if anyone is butt hurt they can just use that fabulous BC.

Army_of_Darkness262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

@JackBNimble

We're all aware it's a remake. A pathetically barebones developed one for that matter. Look at the last of us remake for the ps4 for example, It was incredibly done! Solid 60fps at 1080p res!

JackBNimble262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

Army
It's not a remake and no one has to buy it if any of what was announced displeases them.

And don't forget there are a ton of dev's tied up in GTA6 at the moment so I'm sure talent and resources are sparse.

Apparently Undead Nightmare also does not have multiplayer this time around....

darthv72263d ago

FWIW... this IS the Xbox version. Using the 360 as the source they were able to port it to the Switch and PS4/5 because those can handle the same x86 code the XBO/SX can. The Switch will support 720/1080 for portable and docked play. PS4/Pro will be 1080/1440 and the PS5 will be 4k. It's literally the exact same thing that they did for the XBO/SX bc update. it will have some cleaner textures and tweaks here and there to make it look better but sadly still no 60fps support.

Lazy... sure, but still it is nice that Switch and 4/5 owners will be getting this game now.

autobotdan263d ago

The Xbox version runs in full 4k reaolutuon and 60fps

darthv72263d ago

^^...if you are using xenia on a series x. Otherwise, it runs at 4k/30 on both my One X and Series X.

seanpitt23263d ago

$50 for a 13 year old game.. no just no it's a joke! rockstar are taking the piss, the game feels old now and it definitely needed a remaster.. this will bomb

Elda263d ago

Exactly. The folks at Rockstar must be high & drunk.

darthv72263d ago

well... they didnt lift a finger on this one. it was all Double Eleven who did this port.

CobraKai263d ago

I woulda bought this since i never played RDR, but $50 is ridiculous. $14.99 maybe, because this is barely a remaster.

darthv72263d ago

Buy the 360 version... its way cheaper and the XBO/SX make it look and play so much better.

CobraKai263d ago (Edited 263d ago )

That is a fantastic idea.

Wow. Game of the year edition is only $30

neutralgamer1992263d ago

I am going to buy it. I can play on PS5 via backwards compatibility. I won’t spend $50 but around $30 I would buy it

And If they release GTA4 and MGS4 even if ports I would happily pay $30. Y’all do realize that the only way to play RDR right now is Xbox consoles. It’s not on PC and it’s not on PS4/5 or even Nintendo and GTA4/MGS4 are also stuck

Lightning77263d ago

The Xbox version also has 4k 16xs anisotropic filtering thanks to the BC. An Xbox version would be utterly useless on top of an already lazy port already.

phatak263d ago

Holy smokes! I hardly even comment on n4g anymore but this truly deserves a comment, I am primarily a pc gamer but own the consoles too. When I heard of the rumors I was genuinely glad as I thought finally we would get a native PC port. I already owned the game on ps3 and xbox one which later become backwards compatible with the series x and is 4k resolution but 30 fps, I saw lot of people making comments like it will hopefully have the graphics of rdr2 level and keep everything else like the gameplay, map size the same as rdr1.

I wasn't really expecting a full remake like that so kept my expectations in check and just wanted a good ol remaster with 4k 60 for consoles and a pc port as well, but alas, they seriously just ported it to ps4 and switch, good lord hard to believe. I have considered rdr1 the game of the generation for ps3/xbox360 along with some of the ps3 exclusives and rdr2 the game of the generation for the ps4/xbox one era, but I cant support this version of rockstar anymore, all they care about is cash and cashgrabs, gta online was the biggest mistake and now they simply dont give a flying fuck. the Funny thing is the best way to play this game is still on PC, I finally got brand new pc hardware and the xbox xenia emulator is the best way to play this game, it goes 4k 60 without even a hitch(depending on hardware of course).

So what does that say, that I who supported rockstar by buying the same game on both ps3 and xbox360 ends up playing the superior version on an emulated version on PC which I pirated ! screw rockstar man genuinely I hope nobody buys this game on switch and ps4 but alas it will sell well and they will continue not giving a fuck !

Profchaos263d ago

Xbox players already have it via backwards compatibility this new version would seemingly be worse as the backwards compatibility version runs at 4k and maybe 60 I believe. This new version would be a downgrade

Abracadabra263d ago

The already existing Xbox Series version of Red Dead Redemption likely runs better then the "new" PS4, PS5 and Switch version.

Not ps5? The hell is this?

seanpitt23263d ago

Rockstar must be trolling right?

RaidenBlack263d ago

/unrelated to isarai's comment\ But ...
Whoa, N4G just straight up erased OtterX's comment from here?
What's happening here?
Why are videogamer.com's submissions getting highest priority and why are the N4G submission rules getting bent?

darthv72263d ago

In the words of Bill & Ted.... "strange things are afoot at the N4G"

isarai263d ago (Edited 263d ago )

https://www.bgfg.co.uk/bran...

Just dug up the fact that they are both part of BGFG, makes a lot more sense now that videogamer.com's trash articles keep getting approved despite completely missing the submission guidelines. Not this article particularly but you know what I mean

BrainSyphoned262d ago

Because vidogamer is n4g and they are out to show they can publish content just as braindead as the other failure sites do. Sad thing is Christopher almost sounds rationally sane since the acquisition but the rest of the in house stuff is trash.

RaidenBlack263d ago

Straight up ports?!
and no PC release, even? what the ....

263d ago
Petebloodyonion263d ago

There's no PC release because it already exists on PC.
PPL needs to understand that this basically the Xbox1 X version of the game now available on systems that currently don't have the game.
The switch never had RDR.
and PlayStation 3 games are not playable on PS4/PS5.

darthv72263d ago

RDR1 was never on PC. It was 360/PS3 only.

Petebloodyonion263d ago

My mistake Darth,
You're 100% right!
I saw it so many times on youtube that I forgot that the majority of 360/Ps3 games were never released on PC back then (or would get crappy port).

In this regard, I expect the PC version to follow suit when price drops.

Kaze88263d ago

You can always emulate it on pc :3

poppatron263d ago

It’s like they learned nothing from the gta trilogy fiasco.

Got to be a little concerned with how few 💩💩💩 rockstar seem to give these days

darthv72263d ago

its a port of the 360 version for modern consoles. There was no PC release for that... and still isnt since this is not a remake/remaster but just a port.

Profchaos263d ago

Xenia runs it better on modern PC's anyhow tbh it's likely we would just get the game running via a emulation layer for a official release anyhow

fan_of_gaming15d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long15d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming15d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10115d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor15d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6915d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming15d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno15d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming15d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

For just $6 you can play the Red Dead Redemption port on Xbox and PS5

Rockstar Games’ shiny new Red Dead Redemption port is now on GTA+, and you can play it while claiming some tasty GTA Online benefits.

Rockstar still strying to make GTA plus work
Should be $6 for the rdr game on sale not 6 bucks for a months playtime

Exvalos29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

I hear ya, 49.99 or whatever the price on that game is, is a bit stiff seeing as it's just a port.

anast29d ago

Why would anyone rent this game?

jznrpg29d ago

One of my favorite games from PS3 generation. I have the remaster as there was a buy 2 get 1 free deal a while back but the price they are charging for the port is way too high although not surprising at all.

OtterX45d ago

I still think this release was a big waste of time. I would have been a day 1 purchaser if they had redone the game w RDR2 graphics. I still own my PS3 copy, so don't see the point in picking this up if it's minimally improved.

CobraKai45d ago

I bought the game cheaper than the remaster on 360. There’s no reason in releasing the game at that price with so little improvements if any.

Profchaos45d ago

It's nice to have it as a handheld game I guess if you travel a lot but yes the ps5 release was a joke

kaos8945d ago

It plays at 60 fps on PS5 and a higher res if you value that.

OtterX45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Yea, PS3 graphics at 60fps and 4k doesn't warrant the price. It was severely disappointing considering they already created so many of the assets north of the San Luis River (New Austin) in RDR2 and could have reused a lot of things, or reworked things bc they are the same area at different times in a fairly close history. It's friggin' Rockstar - you know they have the money and resources to have done it.

jznrpg29d ago

I like that I can play the game on current generation console but it would have been nice if they did more to make it look better.

Profchaos45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

They should have released the game in its current state not the state it launched in. Obvious we all wanted this to be a expansion to rdr 2 given that the original map was already remade in the game lots of people though this was just going to be added in later as paid DLC.

Now the game runs at 4k 60 fps on ps5 and can be brought on sale it's actually worth playing.

At launch the game was priced far to high and was a ps360 era game that couldn't run at 60 fps.

I'm in no way a frame rate snob I defended games like tears of the kingdom in the past for being 30 fps experiences but rdr was a joke at launch
