The renowned Nintendo Wii U appears to suffer from a memory error that occurs if the console is not used for long periods of time.
Years after being discontinued, only a single Nintendo Wii U was sold in the month of September, being the first one since May 2022.

Seriously though good find getting a brand new console from a retailer no less. I brought my Wii U last year second hand and I'm not in love with the controller but the core system was excellent I have homebrewed and use it as a emulation station and a pro controller which actually runs fantastic.
Plus you can buy Wii U games for dirt cheap as the demand isn't there right now but like all retro systems it's inevitable demand will come back around especially given only 13 million systems are in the wild and the actual handheld gamepad is a requirement which is going to be a problem as you can't use the system without the pad and there's no third party replacement
As of late March 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop for the Wii U system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It will also no longer be possible to download free content, including game demos.
No surprise, but a sad day for gaming with hundreds of exclusive titles to be lost forever
it's sad that no one is actually outraged by that piece of news ut it's even worse to Sony because Nintendo acknowledges that going forward they would only release classic content thru the Nintendo online membership.
Basically, they are killing the store to create value for Switch and the Nintendo membership.
The Nintendo Switch has almost outsold sold the Nintendo Wii U after approximately one year in global sales.

Surprising no one. I wouldn't be surprised if almost every refreshed console / handheld outsells the Wii U going forward.

Nintendo already discontinued support & repairs for it too, so even if you wanted to get it repaired, you can't. Well, not officially anyways.
