PC gamers are getting fed up with one shitty port after another

Everything comes to PC now, but it sure feels like there's something wrong with practically every major release.

Yeah people think a GPU just boils down to a benchmark number when it is a lot more complex than that. That is why there are so many settings that can be set at different levels and even that is an imperfect bandaid.

There are actually millions of permutations and this is all before you consider OS and driver bottlenecks. PC gaming can be great when it works and downright frustrating when you spend money on something that won't even boot and then have to spend hours on Google trying to troubleshoot through config and game files.

Sometimes the game will work under one config and operating system but won't work under a new OS. A lot of gamers will keep their dedicated rigs on one operating system for years.

Thats just what it means to be a PCgamer. You choose to deal with these things. It is inevitable. Only a console like approach will mitigate this

How many games get released and need a patch that never comes? How about the stuttering in games? It's not as easy as saying pc work. Games are way more complex and brute force is not a fix like it used to be

Of course there are a lot of lazy developers, but it's noticeably more so an issue these days than it used to be. But people act as if this has always been a problem just so they can say consoles are better. Look how easily a weak (in comparison to a decent PC) Steam Deck can emulate Switch games, and run them much better too.

Another issue is GPU pricing being completely stupid compared to how it used to be as well. Hopefully it will get better both ways soon.

It seems to be the case most of the time. I remember hearing this about Resident Evil 4 on the PC back in the day, Arkham Knight, pretty much anything this gen like Callisto Protocol for example.

It makes me glad to be a console gamer. We just miss out on all the awesome mods and eventually better optimization whenever a patch or mod comes out for the game

The main problem is they keep using that shitty UE4 for almost every game on PC. It needs to end. I had no issues at all with the Horizon Zero Dawn port, it ran very smooth and no issues, it was using the Decima engine. Devs need to license different and better engines and get off Epic's dick.🍆🤣

HZD launched broken on PC as well. UE4's real problem is streaming assets, which causes the hiccups (stutters) you see in every UE title.

I waited to play with after a few patches, but at least it's not like UE4 with the constant stutters. What I don't get is, did Epic not see this when they were developing it for use on PC, I mean they had to experience the mess this engine is.

Who would have thought it, developing games to work on a single spec piece of hardware would result in more consistent performance than developing to allow for a ridiculously large range of component variations, and that's before users then install their machines full of crap software that steal resources and a hugely bloated OS that's ever changing.

@jznrpg Yes limited fun. Between lack of general backwards compatibility. You're limited to what ONE company allows and curates versus no ceiling. That is a large con of a closed platform. For example RedM and FiveM. Third party multiplayer clients objectively superior in every way to Rockstar's own terrible moneygrubbing attempts. PC is also usually the first to get new genres. And of course, mods.

Many games are made with PC in mind last so they don’t get the best ports . It used to be different when I played on PC but those days are long past . Cheaters, bugs, driver issues , compatibility issues, all digital , having to use windows are some issues and why I dont play on PC anymore . Feeling like I should upgrade every couple years .
But most importantly PC only games aren’t really anything I’m interested in like I was in the past . Many best RPGs used to be PC only , now it’s indie stuff or multiplayer stuff that I don’t care about and most of that comes to console too.

Which is fine if you ignore the good ports, don't want to edit videos, don't want to run emulators or other things you can't on console, or get free online, or keyboard and mouse support for basically any game. I personally struggle using a controller with any FPS game since the 64, and KB & mouse are almost essential for certain types of games, just like a controller is for others.

This is one of the reasons why I am a console gamer first, before PC. Sure PC is more powerful due to the ability to upgrade anyway you want, but the ports always end up crappy at the beginning smh 🤦‍♂️ Of course you got the better framerate and resolutions, but I look at none of those features as next gen when it has been done before on PC for years now.

Console to me is just straight to the point device with everything already to go, and the PS5 to me is already like a PC experience in a console. When I play games it’s always about the gameplay to me, and new game mechanics that makes the game next gen. I am not waiting for Final Fantasy 16 to come to PC so I am sticking to the PS5 version! Nuff said.

This might be true in rasterization, but it can't run max settings 4k with high refresh rate and RT on in all games.

Granted, i agree that proper optimization plays a major role in a game's performance, wich unfortunately is extremely lacking nowdays.

As well they should be. There’s no reason why PC can’t run games at least as well as consoles. Still, this is why I’m a console guy for AAA titles, and I’ll reserve my PC for the admittedly many exclusives.

It's not just PC (PC gamers tend to not know about console woes). All AAA games on everything are buggy messes. Quality control went out the window a long time ago. It's why I'm down to playing 2-4 games a year now. I don't waste my time with games that are a struggle to get running smooth. The down side to consoles is that you really don't have many options to get a game running smoother (graphics options). Instead you have no choice to to hope it gets patched.

Fed up with shitty PC ports? Try watching even a single review for the game you're about to throw $60-80 at blindly. It's 2023 and we still have to tell people to stop pre-ordering digital copies of games and to check out reviews. At the very least, you should know who's publishing the game. Expecting a quality PC port from From or Square is just tomfoolery.

This is not a excuse. But with there being what's probably hundreds of thousands of different configurations. From people using new 13th gen intel i7 CPUs witha 4090 and 64gb ddr5 ram. To people using a gtx 1060 with a few year old ryzen 3600 cpu and 16gb ddr4 ram. To the budget pc gamers. Using a 10 year old i7 4790 CPU or a first gen ryzen with a gtx 1650.

It's got to be hard for developers to take into account off these different configs.
