I mean... if what I've heard about typical New Republic writing is true, then David Cage's emotionally overwrought melodrama and political messages as subtle as a 2x4 to the head seems quite appropriate. Disney Star Wars was willing to give Chuck Wendig a trilogy of canon books, so let's not pretend they've sunk to special lows before.

Atom666879d ago

Nailed it.

I've enjoyed the irony to all of this too..

We had to hear about Wendig being too far on one side of this tiresome socio-political divide, and now we have to hear about Cage being on the other.

Meanwhile, there's just a group of us SW fans sitting here simply asking for good stories, characters, and themes devoid of all of the bickering over ideology.

Bring "balance to the force" by just giving us good writing for once.

coolbeans879d ago (Edited 879d ago )

So, I have mix of agree/disagree with some of your sentiments here.

I'm honestly not too sure if Cage would cleanly fall on the other side of Wendig in this socio-political stuff anyways. For instance: I still don't get how anti-SJWs go to bat for Detroit; and yet, there's also his behind-the-scenes issues that this article brings up.

Even though I was venting about writing quality, Cage & QD are under investigation for improper work conduct laws too. Plus, that whole "Ellen Page shower scene" is a creepy episode of Cage's odd career. I do understand where the article is going with THOSE specific circumstances. So now Disney's signing big deals with inconsistent writers AND companies they'd speak out against in other circumstances.

Atom666878d ago

That's fair. I suppose my view of the commentary surrounding both projects them (in my mind at least) into these seperate (but equally as insufferable) groups.

For Cage, it's stories like this one from the always objective Kotaku that stands out:

I would prefer action in my Star wars games rather than interactive storytelling tbh. Detroit was great for what it was but I don't want to play a star wars game the same way.

Fallen order did good, I would like to see that formula expanded upon. I've never heard of Quantic dream making an action title so I'm just going based on previous experience with Detroit.

justsomeoffdude879d ago

This.. when I saw that quantic dream was the developer I just switched off.. I want to PLAY the game and not watch interactive cut scenes.

Magog879d ago

The previews say this game will have much more action than their previous ones. It's not going to be an interactive novel.

Urrakia34878d ago

Bet you all it means is that it'll have even more QTEs. That's the most action you'll get in their games, really. (And I loved Heavy Rain btw)

Outlawzz878d ago

Yea they can say anything but the gameplay will speak for itself when they show it. Im hopeful and I'll play the game either way just because I'm a fan of star wars. But I don't really buy into much p.r. talk as its usually just fluff.

Quantic dreams doesn't make action games and we only have previous projects to go by.

Magog878d ago

@Urrakia34 and Outlawzz Quantic Dream made Nomad Soul which had combat elements and their new game Is being billed as action adventure. I expect it to be very much like Mass Effect. Mostly exploration and dialog choices with some lite combat mixed in.

PapaBop879d ago

And Star Wars deserves better than Disney. Only book I read was Light of the Jedi and that was unintentionally funny and as cheesy as the name suggests.

SurgicalMenace879d ago

I mean, since they deserve better, why aren't you writing for them?

Mr_Writer85878d ago

@surgical

You don't have to be an author to be critical of an author's work.

That's how opinions work.

SurgicalMenace878d ago (Edited 878d ago )

I definitely get that, but it's getting exhaustively annoying to hear them from individuals who have no skin in the game themselves. Please excuse me, as experience has showed me that the best opinions come from those who have mastered their craft.

Lucas Arts, Disney, Quantum Dreams, etc. have all mastered their fields enough to have internationally recognized brands. Wouldn't one gather that they know more about what it takes to make it than those speaking in a comment section?

Just because the option to voice an opinion is there doesn't mean it should be exercised. I mean, we can all eat shit too, but who's choosing to do that?🤣

Always amusing how people select their battles while turning the cheeck to others.

Disney itself isn't clean.

SurgicalMenace879d ago

No person is clean, never seen so many self-righteous people hiding behind a keyboard.

TheDoomedGuy879d ago

Its the internet. What did you expect?

Parade my wealth? It is what it is, bruh. If you had it, guess what? It'd be a part of your narrative as well. Your lack is a state of mind, sir, which is only capable of translating a true account into an instant of validation. The wealth is ALREADY mine, and I EARNED it,, so no validation needed. Get your own and perhaps you'll understand better. Until then, as my dad would say, "live within your pay grade."

Your type is one to think that Warren Buffet being in a private plane is showing off because you're of the "I don't need things like that to be happy" class. Guess what? Neither does he but it sure is fun to be able to play with the toys that your hardwork affords you.

With your logic, wealthy people shouldn't talk at all, huh? Perhaps if you lived it you'd understand better. Comes off as jealousy really, thinking that no one of wealth could possibly occupy the same platform as you is lunacy. The owner of the company you work for would most likely share in my sentiment as we're most likely cut from the same cloth.

You are aware that companies create nice things because there are people who like nice things, right? Or are they also just looking for validation too?🤣🤣 Sad....

Certainly no moral high ground hahaha

Hypercharge Unboxed Dev Saddened By Claims It'll Be 'Dead' Without Xbox Game Pass

One of the big Xbox releases heading our way in May 2024 is the long-awaited Hypercharge Unboxed, which is finally bringing its "first and third-person shooter action figure game" to Xbox consoles on Friday, May 31st.

Sadly, ahead of launch, the game's official Twitter (or "X") account has been highlighting the "trolls" who are claiming that because it's not launching on Game Pass, Hypercharge Unboxed is already set up for failure on Xbox.

helicoptergirl12h ago

It's horrible what people will say, but the truth might be harsh. There is a good chance it might not do well on Xbox if it's not on GamePass. There is a strong possibility that is the case. We'll see.

When it launches on Playstation in the future you can rest assured it will sell much better. The devs have confirmed it's coming to Playstation in the future.

"It is built in the Unreal Engine 4. The game was released on the Nintendo eShop on January 31, 2020 and on Steam on April 27, 2020. The development of Hypercharge: Unboxed for the Xbox platform was officially announced on July 16, 2022, with the developers also confirming future support for the PlayStation."

ZeekQuattro11h ago

I remember having this on my radar years ago for the Switch but never pulled the trigger on it. Crazy it's still not on PlayStation yet.

northpaws2h ago

And that's the problem of GamePass.

JEECE2h ago

Unfortunately once people are conditioned to expect to get something as part of a subscription they already pay for, they are unlikely to buy it a la carte. Some games, including this one, now look like "Gamepass Games" to a huge chunk of the Xbox audience. Maybe this game will buck that trend, and I wish them luck, but I'd imagine they'll have a rough go trying to sell this game on Xbox.

shinoff21831h ago

Hopefully their game not selling on Xbox doesn't stop them from bringing it to ps. I can't imagine why a developer would go Xbox first if their not on gamepass. Good luck to them though.

JEECE1h ago

Yeah I can't figure that out either. I mean I understand why you go there first if you get a Gamepass payday, but if you are just trying to sell copies it doesn't make sense. Fewer users overall, and a smaller percentage of those users are willing to buy indie games a la carte.

Epic Games Faces $1.2 Million Fine Over "Unfair Practices," Plans to Fight Back

Epic Games is facing a $1.2 million fine by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets over "unfair practices" in the Fortnite shop.

Sciurus_vulgaris18h ago

It might be cheaper to simply pay the fine. Fighting said fine could cost millions due to court and lawyer fees. Fortnite generates well over a 100 million in each month, so Epic has plenty of cash.

franwex11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

But if they did pay it, then they are basically admitting that they did something they weren’t supposed to be doing. If they fight it, they may win and continue to have a sense of urgency for their micro transactions thus making more money long term.

Goodguy013h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Meaning more suits to follow from others if they don't fight as well.

Not a fan of Epic nor fortnite and their micro transactions. But the game is heavily supported and is free to play, all store items are completely cosmetic.

Furesis6h ago

I'd fight back too. These are kinda meaningless reasons to fine someone like really for THAT. It's like they just wanted to make money or something.

Too bad for the best fps there is atm...

Sgt_Slaughter17h ago

The market for games like this is too over saturated to make a dent in other established games' player counts. Trying to start all over with a whole new multiplayer meta and grinding to get better is not feasible when there's already a ton of similar games that have come out before it.
